  1. Rubbish bins often disappear, more likely than not to reappear, like the one at the corner of Goodrich and CPR which is especially useful as it is on the route to three schools! I pick up cans and bottles, usually about eight or ten a day, just walking around. Give it a go (but wash your hands afterwards, just in case!)
  2. Steaks and fizz (maybe even champagne) into a big Sainsbo's bag at M and S on LL. I saw it, decided to not intervene but tell the nearest member of staff, by which time the alarm had gone off. An M and S staff member told me that someone sitting outside has been known to ring the perpetrator to tell them when the coast is clearest.
  3. It starts and finishes at Nigel Road because, I think, the roadworks at the library end of Barry Rd prevent them from turning around. FYI, Upland Road bus stop going to FH is closed (although one bus driver stopped yesterday and said it wasn't closed).
  4. Stoves have to accord to strict standards. Fuel (like that wood you buy at petrol stations) doesn't have to, I believe. Miscanthus logs (Terravesta) are great and produce very little smoke indeed and are drier than even kiln-dried logs. Tighten up the rules on the fuel, I'd say, and have a hotline for current offenders (or just have a polite word).
  5. I'd prefer at least one permanently staffed check-out counter. About 2/3 of the time I always have to be helped because my bag is not in the right place, etc. Today, an elderly person didn't know how to use the self-service till. One till was opened eventually because the Q grew. It's OK, not great; I'm more excited about the library....
  6. http://www.railtechnologymagazine.com/Rail-News/tfl-reveals-ultramodern-london-overground-trains- The main difference to the eye is that the sides feature more black paint than older trains and the moquette has green in it and the handrails are a deeper orange than usual (though the ginger colour features on the outside of the train). It's a bit disappointing that the interior design has to change so soon after launch but at least we're getting new trains. (The article says something about the Gospel Oak line but I saw this train on the Crystal Palace route today.)
  7. There is the stop for the 12.197.63, 363 on Peckham Rye just after Barry Rd, then another at The Gardens about 200 feet away. Surely this should be taken out of service. Likewise, the one just before Dog Kennel Hill on the way into East Dulwich from Denmark Hill. (I am a bus fan so am just wanting to be reasonable to improve the service.)
  8. An express/limited stop 176 would be good. I asked the GLA transport bod about this but was told it wasn't an option. Walking is often just a little bit slower than the bus. Journeys could be made faster if people went upstairs or sat in all the seats but some people don't like to do sensible things like that... Drivers are much maligned and ought to be paid more. A few are right gits but most are good and respond to a greeting.
  9. Bad design, indifferent cyclists (sometimes), unaware pedestrians makes for accidents. It ought to be redesigned and "policed" once redone.

  12. I was told by the woman working on the move that the new library will be bigger than the old one and there will be new fixtures and fittings. She said the move should be pretty easy because all they have to move is the books/CDs, etc.
  13. For about ninety seconds the length of LL (viewed from the new school/old police station, up and down) was empty of moving traffic. There was not a bus, moped, cyclist, car or van. Barry Road was similarly quiet about ten minutes later (1625, or thereabouts). It must be to do with the fact that schools are on holiday. It really reminded me of how traffic would often disappear even on busy roads for a few minutes way back when.

  16. This is sad news. The stall holders were enthusiastic, friendly and savvy. One cake maker (whose brownies were delicious) was especially positive and had just started her business that week. The organisers, who also had the hot drinks stand, I think, were very welcoming and positive. I hope they all come back and don't feel too bruised from this experience.
  17. Yes, that's possible. How come it was moving away from the pond? Do they go a-wandering often, frogs? Is there a boggy area on the Hill?
  18. Last night whilst taking a walk in the drizzle I saw a frog hopping from the gutter onto the pavement at Dawson's Hill, near to the junction with Upland Road. It was odd to see it there because I do not know of any pond or marsh near there. Can anyone offer any ideas as to how it got to Dunstan's Road? Thanks much
  19. It was great last week, despite the heavy rain and chilly weather. This week (Saturday) a sign said it had been postponed till further notice, just one week after it had opened. I hope it comes back soon.
  20. I think I just heard it! Is it on the school side of Dunstans or across the crossroads going to Underhill?
  21. I have fond that Google Maps does not include all options (such as Overground/Ginger) and that TfL does not include BR journeys (which I suppose is correct as BR is not part of TfL).
  22. Glad to see this and I wish it well but would hope that the signage is just temporary. The design is great but it doesn't fit over the old restaurant's sign and the other one has been tied onto another old sign.
  23. Ah, feel free to delete, eds.
  24. ... a fish/chip restaurant, licensed and should be open by the end of October.
  25. Please PM with your details of the loss.
