Many people - including many MPS - said at the time that the detail needed to be examined. precisely to avoid this kind of situation Almost as if this was a complex situation that needed scrutiny But what happened? Parliament was prorogued, people were told no more negitation was needed and "MPS were just trying to stop Brexit" And now - we are supposed to just take these liars at their word? I mean - why would anyone believe them

As an Irishman I?m aware of how we built our economy and suffered in the global economic crash I?m also aware we didn?t get to blame labour like England did I?m also aware that Ireland bounced back well and retains massive support for eu membership as it takes a more balanced and less self-centred and arrogant view of the world than this country and people like you do. I?m aware many Leave voting English people have applied for Irish passports to retain the benefits of membership In short, your argument is hot air

Someone tell keano it's not the 19th century anymore, the world has moved on, England is a minor world player compared to several hundred years ago and that the EU is not some invading force that extracted taxes from the natives
-
"made an attempt to come up with a palatable solution" but this is the problem that can never be squared the referenedum only happened because of the nutters and the problem it was causing within the tory party. If they were easily contained we wouldn't have even needed a referendum - few people gave a toss before then You put any version of brexit in front of people - you won't get enough to pass it. Define the softest most palatable brexit - THEN put it to a referendum and see if it passes But what passed was a blank cheque - any version of which leaves us worse off and displeases a large portion of people that voted to leave That is not remainers problem - remainers pointed out this WAS the problem

"It woke you up." That's hardly the point of all of this is it?
-
" Unfortunately the EU still wants to ensnare the UK in its spider?s web in perpetuity." you do know that some of us are from other EU countries and that sentences like this show a mind detached from reality right?
-
translation - uk wants same benefits it had as a member whilst continuing to do it's own thing would love to have some examples of that compromise
-
The problem with Jones' article, and with anyone with some vague notion of a softer brexit - is that their softer brexit can't exist in reality either Because it's not remainers like me at fault - if some softer version of Brexit was defined by May(or Corbyn) and presented - the very hardcore nutters who have driven this whole thing for decades - the very people anyone supporting brexit has to take responsibility for wouldn't stand for it. If you solve a problem like Ireland by staying a member of Single Market, you really think Jenkins and co wouldn't rip everything up?
-
of course keano will just look at our posts and file under "remainers headless chickens" completely oblivious to the damage being done no ownership no acknowledgement no shame
-
Just to remind you keano - this government stood at the last election on the promise of no more negotianions, the deal was oven ready They are renaging on their promise to their own voters, never mind international law and the politics of other countries who we will need to trade with in the future And of course, not forgetting the potential damage to peace in Northern Ireland The EU isn't peeing its pants - they are just trying as best they can to deal with recaltricant children
-
Totally detached from reality
-
mad that this government is behaving so irresponsibly over international treaties, with the whole world watching and judging, and people in favour of brexit aren't on here talking about it

I did like that clip from Aussie tv about the appointment ?beggars can?t be choosers?. They get it
-
As I pointed out - Corbyn held views unacceptable to people and was rightly condemned as unfit to govern because of them. Was that a path to fascism?
-
Not all opposing views are equally valid. They just aren?t. And far equivalence of them is tedious and unhelpful
-
No it isn?t The lesson we learned from fighting fascism was to tolerate people and not tolerate them he views of people who seek to oppress others. If you are homophobic, mysoginist etc, go about your day, maybe educate yourself but keep well away from government Now, you allow people with views like this as a government? Then you get fascism
-
? As one of the articles below suggests many religious folk (Muslim, Catholic etc) hold similar views (again, which I personally disagree with)....but does that mean we should bar them all from any public office? ? Regardless of their religion, if they personally hold and express those beliefs then yes, they are unfit for government representation. Johnson himself holds some of those views and he too is unfit. Corbyn held some repulsive views and he was deemed unfit Not sure what the hard part is
-
God. Larry christing Elliott. A tiny step up from Minford. But not much
-
It's not just his problematic views tho, is it? What exactly is his "ability to be a trade envoy? ". He is a Brexit supporter and that is the extent of his qualification for this position. What stardust will he bring to negotiations? he just seems like a pig-headed remnant from the past, someone the EU and it's consitituient countries will look at and swat away

I haven't seen it yet, but I haven't enjoyed Nolan's last few movies so it doesn't surprise me to hear this But I do like his earlier films and especially love The Prestige

You will be contributing to inflating house prices - no amount of ?affordable housing? built can compete with it You will be relying on someone in a much less fortunate position than yourself to pay your mortgage and your lifestyle I have been a landlord. I let my flat whilst I rented a house in a interim position. We need landlords and we need rental property. But rather than hold on to my flat and expect tenants to pay me ever more money, I sold the place But we don?t need people relying on rising house and rental prices to fund their lifestyle or pensions. Sorry. But it?s true

What ja said And yep, ffvii fan from long way back

?Whatever people's beliefs are about the lockdowns (many courts across the world have ruled that they were illegal) ? This just isn?t true You will see the odd case (like South Africa) where some of the early restrictions (not the lockdown itself) were challenged. But that is a very different story.

It's true that the usual suspects are banging on the same drums And that may be boring. But just like the government before it went ahead with it's own plans to "squash the sombrero" or before it went ahead with exam algos, only to crash ito those walls - the government and vocal leave supporters (and you have t o acknowledge the extreme wing of that group) are ignoring warnings about where brexit is going Is it therefore wrong to say it's stupid? Ignorant? Deluded? I don't think it is wrong to say those things. Do they like hearing them? Of course not. But we can't just pretend otherwise simply to be nice and gentlemanly
