  1. Can someone please clarify, when they say "Stop The War", which war are they referring to? Is it all wars or a specific war?
  2. Steve, do you post messages like this on your SE23.com forum too?
  3. Thanks candj, and those forums will be monitored and if they get taken over by East Dulwich forum users they'll have to be taken down until after the break.
  4. It's just over three years since the forum was set up and in that time it has grown from a few visitors a day to over 3,000 unique visitors everyday and over 11,000 registered users. There is on average about 400 - 500 messages posted everyday and for myself, Admin and the team who run it, it is a labour of love and sometimes quite tiring. In the background we have had to deal with libel threats, username change requests, moving posts in the wrong section, non-East Dulwich companies advertising themselves, abusive messages, complaints about the word "cookwank", monitoring reported posts, sever overloads, BigBadWolf, threats against Admin, police requests to remove posts, local businesses being upset, spam and other issues etc etc. However, and I say this with hand on heart, it's worth it because despite all that the forum is a fun and useful place for the people of East Dulwich and I'm proud of what it's achieved. Anyway, I've decided to have a holiday and from midnight Wednesday 14th October to midnight Monday 2nd November the East Dulwich Forum will be resting and therefore unavailable. The forum will be replaced by a notice saying something like "Gone on holiday for a couple of weeks". Sorry if it causes any inconvenience but it will be great for us to have a break, a proper break, and not have to worry about things going wrong on the forum. I'll make this message more prominent nearer the time so everyone knows about it but I thought I should let the news trickle out initially. Edited to say its Monday 2nd November not Monday 1st November [Edited once]
  5. Something for the designers out there
  6. The most direct route but it does take you through the tollgate and over lots of speed bumps in the Village: [edited once] edited to change it to Croydon IKEA, sorry I didn't initially see the IKEA bit. Embedding the map doesn't seem to work now but here's the link http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=East+Dulwich,+Greater+London,+UK&daddr=51.432929,-0.059052+to:CR0+4UZ&hl=en&geocode=&mra=dpe&mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=13&via=1&sll=51.41475,-0.0925&sspn=0.103207,0.209255&ie=UTF8&z=13
  7. This thread reminded to contact the Safer Neighbour Team about those SelectDNA packs, I contacted them on Tuesday though their website http://www.met.police.uk/teams/southwark/eastdulwich/index.php and this evening some lovely officers dropped a pack off to me. It's basically glue which contain microdots with a serial code on, that serial code is registered to you. You dab them on your property and if it gets stolen/recovered they can trace it back to you. You also get some deterrent window stickers but that does assume that thieves can read. I would encourage people to get a pack especially as they're free and dropped of to your house.
  8. Check to see you've still got all the spare keys for your doors and entrances. My friends were burgled and the spare patio door key was subtly removed from a set keys in the kitchen draw. Two months later after they had had everything replaced they were burgled again.
  9. Suspect what you want but it's a consultation so make sure you're on the mailing list and will therefore hear all about it. No idea about residual freedoms, perhaps you should ask that question in the Drawing Room.
  10. Hi Leo, glad you're home and recovering and best wishes to your friend.
  11. It's mainly about dog turds on the Green but it's more than just that. It's about dogs on Goose Green in general and the Friends of Goose Green are just trying to make sure everyone is aware that the council is doing a consultation about it. If you want to find out more sign up to the mailing list.

  13. I agree with previous posters, a coucillor sending a personal message to someone in response to a question then having it thrown back at them saying they have "invaded my privacy" is incredible.
  14. oh, regarding the "looking for advice" thing, they should really be in the Lounge as "I want advice on using my Mac" is not East Dulwich related but it's not a rule that's enforced heavily as I expect people would complain if the Lounge was overrun with people wanting advice. Remember that the forum's for East Dulwich and that's always going to be the governing/deciding factor, in fact there wasn't even a Lounge once until there was a Polly D/Dulwichmum/armed robbery incident. [edited once]
  15. I would prefer it if there was just the Lounge too but as the forum grew the general opinion from feedback was that the Lounge had became a total playground and there were few "good" discussions going on any more. Another room was required where people wouldn't ruin sensible non-East Dulwich discussions. Another option was (and still is) to create a Games Room where those "threads which just won?t die" could go. Anyway the forum's flexible and it's good to know what people think so all suggestions welcome.
  16. Hi Barry Lovin' your work. When the Pre-pay Oyster cards are allowed to be used at East Dulwich, do you know how much a single/return to London Bridge will be? Will there be a reduced rate as there is on the buses for using the card? I also agree about the area outside the station being scruffy especially the graffiti, the posters ranting about the queen, tatty billboards etc but I understand if this is outside your remit. Thanks again
  17. Hi James and thanks for coming on the forum. I'd love to see Northcross Rd closed on a Saturday to improve the market and it would make it a great focal point for shoppers. I also believe it would encourage foot traffic towards other local shops, not away from them.
  18. Damn, and I thought you were being agreeable today ;-). I know what you're saying but the general opinion from feedback was that the Lounge has became a playground and there were no "good" discussion threads going on any more.

It's not one or the other, you have the option of both, surely that's better as it means the place as a whole is more non-exclusive.
  20. The Council will be consulting later this year on different ways to control dogs on Goose Green in the future. To make sure you hear about this consultation sign up for the Friends of Goose Green mailing list www.friendsofgoosegreen.org.uk. Sorry I can't answer individual questions about the consultation but questions can be directed at the council officer in charge when it happens. The Friends of Goose Green will of course aim to keep people updated via their mailing list and their website.

    Donations

Hi, it's really good to know people want to donate, thank you. Unfortunately we can't accept cheques as we don't have a forum bank account but I believe you can pay to paypal using your credit/debit card i.e. you don't have to have a PayPal account to donate. I think there's something called electronic cheques too but I've not looked into it. Thanks again Mark
  23. There is a module available but the admin involved in monitoring discussions and splitting threads and the subsequent confusion it can cause would not be worth implementing. Keeping it simple works on this forum.

  25. How can you tell it's a poor migrant driving a large expensive car?
