Having just sat through a LOCOG branding presentatiopn I can now see where they're going and I'm impressed, although I'm still not keen on the logo emblem. As someone said on the news last night it was a mistake to just release the emblem on it's own, not their full branding which has loads of potential and is actually quite exciting in it's possiblities.

The new-look Forest Hill Tavern (I)
Mark replied to Chantoozie's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Serenity, I have to admit that when I read through your posts on this thread I too thought you were an in some way managerially connected the the FHT. As TillieTrotter said there have previously been comebacks from local proprietors, some who have had a go their customers for criticising but some have answered their local critics and therefore improved their business. Yours did look like the former but thanks for your last post and clearing it up. Perhaps after the next Forum drinks at Hoopers on July 6th the next one should be at the FHT? -
Any Altima Court residents on the Forum?
Mark replied to MikeE's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi I mentioned Sky to my friend who lives in Altima Court and she said there's a communal satellite dish that you can all use. And that they (the tenants) had a meeting about buying the Freehold but about 25 people turned up which wasn't enough so it's on hold, or something like that. -
The White Stuff has landed...there goes the neighbourhood!...

Owner of The Bishop opens new pub in Herne Hill
Mark replied to MadWorld74's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I'll second that about the Florence. I've never been there before (when it was Ganleys) so I have nothing to compare it to but I thought it was great. Good selection of beers, ample space inside and outside and good service. Mrs Mark said the toilets were spot on which, petty as it seems to us men folk, is very important for the ladies so a big tick there. We also indulged in a burger from the menu (which is the same as the Bishop's), again no complaints. So if it's a nice day and you fancy a drink, I'd recommend the 15/20 minute walk (or jumping on the dirty-seven bus) to go check out the Florence. -
I don't know if it would have made a difference who wrote the letter, but if it was me I would have had words myself. CH4 have got their ounce of publicity out of it and I'm sure they'll be saying how terrible it is on GMTV tomorrow morning before doorstepping Prince William's ex-girlfriend to see what she thinks.

I like the Gowlett a lot, does that mean I won't like the FHT?

> By broadcasting and viewing it we're saying it's okay. I'm not broadcasting it or viewing it, I've better things to do. And if it was my mum choking her last and then someone selling advertising off the back of it I'd ask them personally to not do it, not get my private secretary to write a letter.

Does anyone know what the original brief was for the logo?

Yes, I'm going. I was actually on Worthy Farm 2 weeks ago, look here's a photo of my friend on the toilet by the Main Stage at Glastonbury http://farm1.static.flickr.com/225/508315432_d696470210.jpg?v=0

Andrew Edmonds is a favourite but was thinking of trying something different. I've only found one (6 month old) review of Scotts and it didn't sound good although I may give it a go. Blueprint Cafe's looking good a the moment...

in fact why do people want more cards when there's one card that does everything a card should do? It's the East Dulwich postcard of course which is still available in Healthmatters on Lordship Lane, click here for more details

OK, where do you recommend for a great restaurant to go for a nice meal for two in London? I was thinking of Chez Bruce in Wandsworth or the Narrow in Limehouse but they're both booked up so any similar suggestion would be warmly welcomed. Preferably somewhere which is relaxed with superb food rather than somewhere 'stuffy' Thanks Mark

... but then again the little gift shop (Anterior Trading (?) on Northcross Road) has shut down as there was a rent rise and she couldn't continue selling her gifts and I understand it's now going to be a maternity wear shop (please don't start going on about three wheeled buggies in East Dulwich, in a recent survey in ED there were 14 three-wheelers and 68 four-wheelers counted)

Perhaps if you read what Wolf Olins say about it it might make it clearer: (Taken from http://www.wolff-olins.com/) The emblem is 2012, an instantly recognizable symbol and a universal form, one already closely associated with the Games in London and marking a moment of change for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Neither an appendage to London nor the Olympic symbol, it brings the two together in an inclusive way. It is a brand which can be read and understood by people of all ages, around the world. Echoing London?s qualities of a modern, diverse and vibrant city, the London 2012 emblem is unconventionally bold, deliberately spirited and unexpectedly dissonant. Comprising neither sporting images nor pictures of London landmarks the emblem is designed to signify that while the Games is hosted in London, it is not just for London, but also for the UK and for the world. That it is as much for the athletes as for everyone, regardless of age, culture and language. It is a brand to help take the Olympic and Paralympic Games into a new era. hmmmm *strokes chin in a thoughtful way*

I like it AP Here's mine, in the style of Catchphrase I'm trying to capture the feeling of the British public towards the handling of the Olympics so far. ;-)

I'd rather that it grew on me than we spend more money on getting another one. In fact the more I look at it the more it looks like a camp person, hand on hip and lifting up a limp wrist in a http://www.skynews.com.au/photos/SkyNews_Image_20070309053609.jpg style. Or Lisa Simpson. [edited once]

I'm not a smart arse in this field but I don't like it either. I think of Olympic logos on flags and banners and on the chest of beach volleyball players and other athletes. As a branding excercise the interactive "thing" is probably great but the logo is not something I, as a Londoner, feel proud of. To me, this: http://www.london2012.com/img/logo/medium-pink-yellow.png is not very nice. Someone's also just pointed out to me that it says 2012.

The Admin and I have been deliberating about this one. As Alan started this thread and the main information is in the first post (and it's quite amusing) it's staying in the Wanted/offered section and won't be Lounged (at least until the piano's sold). Admin reckons ?30 and I say ?120
-
Perhaps Hoopers could buy it and at the next EDF drink (July 6th) you two could have a Chopsticks-off? Like the banjo duel in Deliverence but on a piano. [edited once]

I do jackangel and it's not really something that can be controlled although one of the reasons I posted this thread was to gauge what others think so I really do appreciate your comments. I've said this before somewhere but I really hate it when people say they don't post because they feel they'll get shot down by the the regulars or they feel like they'll be intruding into the forum 'in-crowd'. The regulars are friendly and the forum is for everyone, that's what I want to get across but every now and then I have to ask people who read/post on the forum what they think, especially new visitors and people who haven't posted before. Something I've been told is that users have to respect the fact that some people just want to post the odd comment and don't want to go into discussion, the classic was something like this: poster1: old decking for firewood free to anyone who wants it poster2: burning decking, great, there's too much of it around poster1: if you haven't go something useful to say don't bother poster2: Well, decking is a serious matter, but then so is smoke, London's a controlled fire area and burning wood inside that area...blah blah poster1: Oh come on, get a life... If I had known you were bored today and putting this nonsense on the forum, I wouldn't have bothered. poster2: My, there are some seriously angry people around... (The Admin steps in and privately tells poster2 to stop) Do you see what I'm getting at? Poster1 just put something in the For Sale section and started getting grief which is out of order. The Lounge was created to help this, a place for users to chat to each other about non-East Dulwich issues however elsewhere it's hard to 'split' a thread when it goes off topic. It's annoying that a decent thread gets Lounged because people start talking bollocks irrelevant chatter which isn't fair to the original poster and others who enjoy a decent discussion. Please note, this doesn't happen all the time, just sometimes and I want to know if this annoys the hundreds out there who don't post, at the moment I get the impression it doesn't. Anyway, we'll continue to monitor it and gauge people's reactions so if you're reading this please let us know your thoughts, we don't know what you think of it unless you tell us. Thanks and thanks for using the forum. Mark ps Interesting fact: In May there was 32,176 visits to this site and 462,326 page views. [Edited once]
