  1. The postcards have arrived!:)) And they're actually quite good, OK, they're alright but they're something to be treasured. I look forward to giving everyone from the forum a free one on Friday night at the drinks. For the rest of you, they'll be on sale at the Fair on Sunday, I haven't worked out how much yet but probably something like 20p each or 5 for a ?1 which is a bargin considering they'll probably be on Ebay for ?50 next week.

  3. the Clockhouse is here http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=534414&y=175110&z=1&sv=534414,175110&st=OSGrid&lu=N&tl=~&ar=y&bi=~&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf by the way, should be interesting to see how they've refurbished it. It really is fine Seemaa, the people on here are actually normal even though they seem to spend half their life on the forum ;-) And like Mockney says, you get to know a few friendly faces in the area
  4. Perhaps someone could ask a landlord what their intentions are for the small commercial properties round here and let us know...
  5. The prize would be the pure satisfaction of such an achievement. Just to let you know there was this post about the 10,000th post (rather than the 10,000th post in this section) and the lucky person to be awarded a large bouquet of satisfaction was Mockney Piers.
  6. Please could someone explain why Arsenal supporters are called gooners. Is it something like "because chanting gunners sounds like gooners"?
  7. Thanks for all the support, hopefully the weather will hold out. If anyone's got any spare post-its (the larger the better) then please bring them along on the day or to the Clockhouse on Friday. One of the purposes of the forum is that it's a place where people find out about local information so if you have any local information you would like to advertise please bring it along on the day and we'll put it out. Whether it's events or local businesses or anything of interest please feel free to use us at the fair to tell people about it. All for free of course.
  8. A few people asked about it on this thread so we thought we would trial it for a while, a place where people can promote their house/flat and look for property in East Dulwich. For free. If you post on here, please make the title descriptive especially say For Rent, For Sale or Want to Buy/Rent. As an example instead of saying "House on Underhill Road" please say "For Sale - 4 Bedroom House on Underhill Road" Please let us have suggestions about this section if you like it, how we can improve it, problems you have noticed. Like I say we'll trial if for a bit and if it works we'll keep it but we only know if it works if you tell us. We're going have to say no Estate Agents on here please, but if you house is for sale with an agent by all means tell people about it on here as well. Residential Property in East Dulwich...
  9. I like it macroban, it's a policy we may very well adopt. I shall get the Administrator to change the title as soon as possible thanks
  10. I'm about to do a big (stuck inside so might as well) tidy up, I haven't started yet and I'm bored already. Mind you, only 2 hours to go until Antz is on TV
  11. Blimey, it's all been going on here hasn't it? Something that I really don't like is when people say they don't post on the forum because they think they'll get shot down by the frequent posters. My reply to that is if you post something that's likely to get 'shot down' they it probably will, if you ask "is there a WI group in East Dulwich" of "I hear a new shop's opening" then all's fine. If you post a message with your opinion that someone's arrogant and rude then you have to be prepared to back up your opinion, just like in the real world if you told someone they're arrogant and rude. Remember that because someone questions you does not make it a personal attack. The Forum's meant to be a place where, contrary to what some may have said, anything to do with East Dulwich can be discussed. It would be boring if everything posted was lovely and great and nice and it's good to have an open debate, it's what a forum is, a public meeting place for open discussion. I think this thread's close to being lounged, or is it? I bet the Admin's got a tough call here.
  12. the message in the lounge is here

Someone on my mum's side of the family is called Marusia, pronounced Ma-roo-sha, which is Ukrainian for Maria which I always think is nice.
  15. actually I've got to do a Phorum software update first, maybe bank holiday Monday (if it's raining outside) then I'll add some more fields. But yes, keep it simple, I think perhaps 5 fields and then one generic 'About Me' one
  16. I've re-instated the link that says "View all posts by " on the profile page, that shows the all the posts in chronological order which I believe is kind of what you mean. I can certainly try and add more fields, what do you think: Blog: Website: Photo: (this one might be technically tricky add) Likes: Dislikes: Favourite pub/bar in ED: Favourite shop in ED: About me: let me have some suggestions and I'll see what I can do.
  17. Hi annt see where it says Posted by: Mark Today... click on Mark and you'll see my profile, at the bottom there's a link that says 'Send A Private Message', click on that and send me a message (it's refered to as PM'ing on the forum e.g. "PM me") Anyway I'll PM you and send you my number so you can call me cheers Mark
  18. OK, I just spoke to them at Green & Blue and it's not their policy to refuse tap water. The guy I poke to on the phone said they have to give tap water as they serve alcohol and it's not in their interest to send people away drunk. I then spoke to the manager who backed it up and said it's a futile gesture to refuse tap water and they do provide it when asked. The manager said it shouldn't have happened last night, all the waiters and waitresses know they should give out free tap water if asked so he doesn't know what went wrong.
  19. > what about splitting the box in two and having cyclists on the left and two-wheelers with engines on the right? Makes perfect sense to me, any idea who should I write to and suggest/support it?
  20. East Dulwich isn't just about shops and restaurants, I think there's a great sense of community here which is developing for the better.
  21. As a scooter rider in London I generally find cyclist perfectly amicable on the road, I like to feel that sense of two wheel camaraderie when possible and we all hate crap car drivers. You have more sense of awareness when you're more exposed on two wheels (or at least you should have) so it can make for a better, more considerate road user although some of us need to remember we're not invincible. I also favour the idea of flashing amber lights at no peak times which means proceed with caution (and give way to traffic from the right I think). It's frustrating at intersections when there's hardly any traffic and because of the poor timing of lights you have to wait a couple of minutes to allow one vehicle past. The main junction on the way to Herne Hill station springs to mind. What I'm saying is that I can understand why it's tempting to go through red lights on a cycle at those junctions when the coast is totally clear and you know you have to wait for another minute or so however I'm not saying it's right. Out of curiosity, do you cyclists have bells on your bike to make pedestrians aware of you when the situation requires it?
  22. I think that there's probably be a reason for this as Mockney says such as a new waitress thinking Tap is a brand of water, I'll ask G&B what their policy is (as alas not everyone uses the forum all the time) and report back.
  23. Just a reminder the first major festival of the year is this Sunday, 13th May on Goose Green. There will be a fire engine, free bouncy castles, face painting and badge making for the little kids and then there will be stalls, entertainment and a beer tent for the big kids. I can also confirm that Chilli Pete and his chilli stall will be there. The Forum will also be there, a small tent, some chairs and a couple of tables i.e. a place to come and chat, meet other locals and just have a gossip so feel free to bring your drinks over and relax. If I can work out how to do it I will put up four boards: Issues/Gossip, Classifieds, What's on and About the Forum" where people can put up messages on the day (has anyone access to lots of post-it notes? PM me if you have). We will also have some limited edition East Dulwich postcards available on the day (as long as the printer pulls his finger out) so please come by and pick one up. The newly formed East Dulwich WI will also be with us so come along and find out about them and buy their cakes. Personally, I would love to meet people who use the forum so whether you've never posted before or are a frequent poster please do come and say hello. I respect the fact that some people may wish to stay anonymous so please be assured that I won't disclose your identity to others. Oh, I think that when people meet people from the forum in real life they introduce themselves with their real name then their posting name if they want e.g. "Hi, I'm Tarquin I post as The ED Devil". I have a feeling that the phrase "Do you post?" will be heard a lot that day. More details on the Festival Fair can be seen on the website http://www.festivalfair.co.uk and in SE22 Magazine that's out now I look forward to meeting lots of people and having a lovely day next Sunday Mark ps I forgot to say thank you to everyone who donated money towards this at the last Forum get together, it really has helped make this possible so thank you.
  24. I definitely agree with you *Bob*, there's a pub in Borough (The George I think) which has a constantly full jug of water on the bar along with some glasses for punters to help themselves to. Nice touch.
  25. The Parks Department will be at at the Dulwich Festival Fair on Goose Green, Sunday 13th May and you can discuss the proposals with them. (I have to say I have won some clay pigeon shoots in my time, perhaps an ED shooting team could be formed but this in not the thread to discuss this. No more mentioning of shooting on here please, it's about Goose Green)
