  1. I did actually send off for a quote from a jute bag company last week for the same idea but never heard back so never posted my findings. I think it's a good idea and I'm sure some local traders would sponsor it to have their logo on it. We could get a local famous person to create a design for it and therefore make it more desirable (but not too precious so that people wouldn't use it). ps I believe you can already buy re-usable bags from the Deli, SMBS etc
  2. how about a big screen up on Goose Green? Now there's a thought...
  3. "...it's a shame it goes to waste as it is.." it's not waste ground, it's used by hundreds of people everyday. Historically a green is "A grassy area located usually at the center of a city or town and set aside for common use" which it is. I agree that a duck pond would be nice though.
  4. just to let people know if we have a vote it won't be for at least a couple of weeks due to the forum administrators being busy with other things but keep the suggestions and nominations coming...
  5. no way! I live at number 11. I've got some post for you that the postman mid-delivered, have to admit I've had it a while so I hope it's not too important. Anyway, I'm popping down to Bath this weekend for a day or two, anyone need a lift?
  6. I'll be there with my better half, mainly to drum up support for some help for the Festival Fair (two days later on the Sunday 13th on Goose Green) but if drinking and social-ising* happens as well then so be it :) *Mockney, you're right so I've had to hyphenate it. Weird.
  7. A couple of window box size versions would be great for me

    a joke

I was woken up this morning by an aeroplane crashing into my house, I think I must have left the landing light on
  10. Hi Annasfield, I'm one too, watched it in the EDT last night and we were the majority. I'm currently still grinning smugly at the Chelsea at work supporter opposite me. Supporting AC tonight, I prefer the thought of a European Final rather than an English final, oh plus I dislike the other team ;-)
  11. I have just received an email from the Council about Goose Green and what changes they intend to make: "Dear Sir/Madam, Following the consultation we carried out last year, we have carefully considered the issues raised by members of the public who took part in the consultation. We would like to propose the enclosed scheme. Scheme details * Removal of the green fence and redeployment of it at another site, * Installation of new fence matching exterior fence. Designation of that area thus contained as a dog exercise area, * Relocation of rubbish bins and dog bins, * Amendments to signage. On the assumption that this proposed scheme meets with public approval we intend to commission these works over the next 3 months. If you have any further comments on the proposed scheme please contact me. Personally I think they're changes for the better (but then I don't have a dog) [edited once]
  12. Hi Glad it all went well last night, how many members do you think you'll have? Anyway, drop me a line about the fair and let me know if I can help with the website and/or setting up a forum specifically for you. Mark

    Quiet room...

raises a sleepy eyelid, then a glass to DM. Takes a sip of the magic continuously chilled and bubbling champagne then pulls Anfield duvet over head and returns to sleep

    Quiet room...

walks in beaming like a Cheshire cat, hands everyone a glass of champagne and relaxes. Notices nails have been bitten rather a lot in the last couple of hours and sits there humming "You'll never walk alone to himself" awaiting Keefs imminent happy arrival.

    Godwin's Law

apologies if you mis-read that, I wasn't aiming it at you, it was directed at the people in the pub you mention who use the term Nazi lightly. Got a bit heavy there didn't I. To be honest GL will probably not be used again on this site, but I'm sure that Alan Dale's Law will one day find a use. [edited once]

    Godwin's Law

Just to recap a bit of history, the Nazi party took over Germany via a violent rigged election, then banned all rival political parties. They systematically shut down all voices of opposition, killing journalists, creating Nazi churches, and exiling academics. While gearing up for a war of conquest, they introduced eugenics into their school system, took all rights away from Jews, and brutalized other non-Germans. For dessert they launched a six-year war that killed millions of people, enslaved millions more, and systematically exterminated entire ethnic groups before retreating to a bunker and demanding their citizens commit mass suicide.* It's down to personal opinion if they want to compare Nazis to traffic wardens but it shouldn't really water down the facts as to what they did. Anyway you can be assured the law will only be used on extreme cases, mainly to drive the point home that threads go off topic. Like you say what matters here is East Dulwich and the local people, hence the Lounge for discussion about other things non-East Dulwich. *(reason magazine)

    Godwin's Law

I see your point, but when a thread discussing the opening time of shops on Lordship Lane becomes a discussion about Nazis I think there's a point. I've already seen one flaw in your law Alan, the Administrator is not there to win debates, he/she's there to sensibly administer the forum where possible and using Godwin's law can just be used as a prop to drive home their point about going off topic. The TV episodes you mention are not strictly internet discussion boards so they would not be prohibited by this law.
  19. hmmm, you should see an bird's eye view of ED if you click this link http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=sk8z7vgztdhx&style=o&lvl=1&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=4271265&encType=1 but apparently it doesn't work too well on Macs (it's a Microsoft website after all)

  25. Google maps was ok (until the latest photos were taken in the evening with long shadows) now MSN have come back with this: http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=sk8z7vgztdhx&style=o&lvl=1&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=4271265&encType=1 They have a virtual Earth 3D software to which I'm downloading but I fear I will get no work done once I start playing with it. You have been warned.
