  1. I've just read 'the kite runner', that was a really good book!
  2. Oh no, hope your ok. Where and when did it happen?
  3. I've read on here these are good for babies that decide they no longer wish to take a bottle, tried Sainsbury's last night but no luck :-( Also, do you need special bottles too? Thankyou
  4. What exactly is the catchment area for Hamlet and Charter? I've ages yet before we have to think of schools but already concerned!!!
  5. I too was given the G&T anecdote :-)
  6. Where in ED sells the MAM teats? My 5 1/2 mth daughter is now refusing a bottle :-( Very stressful, makes me want to B/F her but I guess that wouldn't solve the problem to give in every time. :-(
  7. Fantastic detective work Fuschia :-) I have called and emailed her, hopefully she will be reunited with her property asap! Thanks Clare
  8. Does anybody on here know this person? I have found something of their's this evening and wanted to return it. I will take it to the police station tomorrow if I don't get any luck on here :-) Clare edited to say passport now with rightful owner :-)
  9. Can't see King's giving advice that is old cobblers, there must be research to back it up. That said, although I wouldn't go so far as drinking two bottles, it is nice to know that you can drink in moderation. Would be good to find out the basis for the advice :-)
  10. I think the "research" result are a ploy to keep us all B/F longer :-)
  11. I may be being slow here but if your blonde, why would you want your hair dyed blonde?? What is the promotion for?
  12. Agree with all above! 12 weeks is such a long time to wait and you do become uncharacteristically paranoid! So much so that at 10 weeks I phoned a private clinic and went for a scan a couple of hours later!! I was then still worried pre 12 week!! I too had no symptoms! Good luck tomorrow, try not to worry and take a good book! We waited ages for the first scan!! Was booked at 630 and we finally left around 11!!! there was a backlog due to a training week so prob not the norm but it was around this time lEt year !!!
  13. Hiya, I was told the same at the King's breastfeeding work shop, that it would take the equivalent of two bottles of wine before your milk was effected! Seems rather excessive to me but I liked the stat;-) I have a friend who is a GP, spoke to her about it, she hadn't heard the two bottle stat, and also agreed sounded excessive, however her view was you can drink, but not to feed if you felt tipsy. Basically sensible non excessive drinking! Would love to know more about the Kings research re the two bottles!!!

No he didn't, he specifically said 'well away from' (his daughter)!
  15. Am planning to start weaning my daughter in a couple of weeks, intend to mix BLW with conventional purees. Made a sweet potato puree tonight to freeze in anticipation, steamed the conventional method in a steamer over the saucepan but when I came to puree in my blender the blender struggled to say the least, took ages to get a puree given the consistency (adding water and keep stirring ever 30 seconds!!) Clearly this is not going to work long term........ any recommendations for kitchen gadgets to make easy work of pureeing, surely the beaba baby cook is a luxury not necessity?
  16. I think however the birth turns out (home/ home from home/hospital/ elective C section / emergency C section etc) there will always be good and bad experiences. The post natal ward was definitely the worst part for me too, fortunately I only stayed there one night which given the C section was an emergency one shows how little time you can stay in, I was told I would be in 3 - 5 days originally! Presumably with elective the time must be as short as possible. I totally empathise with you Ruth and do realise that not all emergency C sections are like mine. it does also cross my mind that an elective next time round (fingers crossed there being a next time) may be a far more painful experience given I won't have had a labour first thus changing my perception of pain!!
  17. Keef, I have seen the thread but don't get as much opportunity to join in as I once did, otherwise I would have posted earlier. Looking after a baby allows far less surfing than a full time job ;-) I did (and do) want to stick up for you! I totally agree with the point you are making, a mum does and should have choices and rights. Breastfeeding is always a tough topic since women who "do" face difficulties with people not supporting breast feeding in public, and being rude and upsetting towards them, those that "don't" can be made to feel guilty and needing to justify their choice. I entirely agree it is a woman's choice, her reasons should be irrelevant, regardless of what they are. I think the article raises stong opinions since the writer described it as being "creepy" (albeit she says that was how she personally felt about it, not a generalisation).I think the Sun picked up on "creepy" and used it in the headline out of context as is their way to sell more papers and create a story out of nothing. The writer's work position made the "creepy" headline more inflammatory. Given her reasons for her personal choice were all about her ie come across as quite selfish (entiirely her perogative) given what was said previously she was doomed to be jumped on. And to upset people! It is a tough call tying to balance what is best for baby with the mother's needs / wants. Whatever you choose there is an element of guilt. I think this is just one of those sensitive issues and you were misunderstood given the high sensitivity. Stay in the family room, its always good to hear from you and I can't think of any occasion when I disagreed with your postings o thought you unreasonable :-) Edited to make more sense!!!
  18. Worth adding that not all emergency C Sections are a bad experience........ I had an emergency C Section at St Thomas's after what I would guess to be not the best of labours. The operation was fine, the staff were amazing and the recovery quick - far less painful than I ever anticipated and a breeze compared to the labour! I was out of hospital in less than 48 hours, up and walking after around 12. I have no doubt that I would choose elective C Section next time round!
  19. So..... The busybody thY reported you, do you know them? Seems an odd thing to report, maybe they need to get out more ;-)
  20. I take zirtec, prescribed by my Dr ...... Now I'm paranoid :-(
  21. Oh no....... mine is in a vest, long sleeve babygro and 1 tog grobag, her room is 24 degrees. Now i'm thinking that that's too much! :-(
  22. That's great, thankyou everyone:-) Does anyone know how we go about registering for childcarecvouchers? Thankyou again :-)
  23. Wonder if anyone knows the answer to the following:- Not after detailed advice just really an indication of whether this is doable or not. Both my boyfriend and I are employees of our own limited companies. I am currently on maternity leave receiving SMP but have been looking into child care needed for me to work again. If we were to employ a nanny as our childcare solution, could we employ her by one of the companies thus avoiding paying for childcare out of our personal (net of tax) income? My gut feeling is that to do so would incur a taxable benefit to the value of childcare for the employees concerned (me ?) presumably negating the benefit of emloying the nanny by the company rather than personally. Thx :-)
