  1. We have a 'evening' invite this weekend. I appreciate the cost of a wedding and need to keep numbers down, so am not offended by a half invite. I do find that evening do's are the fun bit when you know a few people going. When you only k ow the bride or groom and have an evening invite it's rubbish turning up and joining a group of trashed party goers who you haven't had the opportunity to meet ie being there all day. What is the going rate for a gift when you have a half I invite or is it the same ;-)
  2. HR should be professional about it, maybe have an off the record informal and confidential chat with HR.
  3. Just wanted to add that I am so sorry this is happening to you. There is some good advice above which I won't repeat, suffice to say your boss clearly has performance issues with her management skills ( or rather lack of them).Appraisals are not a vehicle to raise a collection of gripes!! Any alleged issues with performance should be dealt with as and when they occur!! Sounds very much like bullying, I have in the passed had a boss that was a bully and know how awful it is and the negative effect it has. Definitely keep a record and if the job is one you would like to change anyway consider raising a grievance for bullying, chuck in some sexual discrimination too, that always makes them take things seriously!! Good luck x
  4. I had indegestion and my daughter didn't have lots of hair....... I did however have horrendous back ache which I later found out is an indication of a posterior baby! Wish I knew that before I opted for a midwife led no drugs labour!!!
  5. My own mother called me 'fatty' I know she didn't mean anything mean by it but nonetheless....
  6. How long does it realistically take to employ a good nanny? What is the best way to find one? Any tips etc? When I go back to work the best solution for me seems to be nanny / nanny share, would be handy to know how far in advance I need to organise this. I am happy to employ a nanny and then, at a later date (hopefully) find another family to share. At the moment I have no idea when I am going back or how many days which doesn't exactly make childcare easy!! My friend is an ex nanny and said she would help me, she is very anti nanny agency and recommends advertising in the Lady magazine (sounds very grand). Any advice appreciated :-)
  7. Elizabeth Arden 24hr one is fab for dry sore hands :-)
  8. You do :-( Although we bought tickets they seemed to give us piccies without being interested in the tickets!
  9. Southwark Council seem rather money grabbing, this seems wholly unreasonable and mean spirited :-(
  10. Yep I had that surprise sprung on me too!! My friend went a couple of weeks later and didn't get that service!!! Thought it was a one off given the study they were then doing on pre eclampsia. Certainly was a surreal experience given the male sonographer, male assistant and random female Dr brought in to be in attendance!!!
  11. Thank's Poppy :-) Sounds an excellent plan LittleEDfamily!
  12. Glad to help, I loved going for scans :-) Take a book incsase the wait is long, although I always found Tue mornings the best time to go as it was the teaching slot (or at least it was with the Sonographer I saw).
  13. Ive not read the book or the column...... will avoid like the plague!!! The guilt thing is bad enough (and I haven't gone back to work yet) without someone like that spouting off!!
  14. Just your notes :-) No need to take the appointment letter or anything else, they will have your name on the system when you arrive and let the receptionist know you are there.
  15. Mine were the maternity ones from Top Shop and were 2 for ?9. Washed really well, comfy and a good shape :-)
  16. Def go to Bluewater mid week, remember it doesnt open until 10 am though. They do have all the best shops for maternity wear! H&M, Topshop, River Island, Blooming Marvelous, Gap. Closer to home I got a few bits in Jo Jo mama babe and secon hand on this forum! I got jeans in Gap which were fab, really comfy and flattering too! Topshop did great vest tops - the selection at Topshop Bluewater wasn't that wide, got mine at the Oxford Circus store, there is a maternity store on the Regent Steet entrance.
  17. Top shop did a good range last summer, very reasonable too :-)
  18. Sound like they don't deserve her!!! A taxi is not unreasonable and as for the family that dock her wages, ditch them!! That is entirely unreasonable and down right mean!! What age range does she babysit?
  19. I think if he can purposely put it on his face he should be able to remove it too. I always use a crib sheet across my baby's cot so it's easier to change if she is a little sick. The last few days she has been untucking it and putting it over her face!?!? We panicked too but it's definitely something she conciously does!
  20. Change solicitors!! It really isn't legally challenging to draw up an agreement of this sort!! In all seriousness my grandparents hired a solicitor who, had they have followed his advice, would have cost my father thousands in IHT. Fortunately I was made aware of the advice before they acted on it and suggested they questioned it.... at which point the solicitor concerned admitted it was "beyond his expertise" and he was thefore unable to act. They went elsewhere and were given entirely different advice consistent with what I expected given the circumstances. It shouldn't happen, but it does, firms (generally small \ sole practitioners) taking on work that isn't within their expertise - fine if they are happy to do the necessary research (at their own cost) but not fine if the advice is detrimental to the client!! I would check what your solicitors expertise is - you can do this looking him / her up on the law society website. Find out what is so complicated about your situation, on the limited facts you have provided certainly doesn't sound complicated.
  21. Still on at the moment, will let you know! "Rich" dad currently taking one of the "poor" kids out in his Ferrari!!! Just promised the "poor" family a holiday abroad!
  22. My daughter is only 4 months so too young, wanted to shamelessly bump the thread though!! Hope she finds some friends! Good luck.
  23. Just sat down and switched TV on. Gist of show is that a rich UK family sponsor a poor UK family. This week the poor family live in Sarf London! Rich family are going to visit, their 9 year old son is looking forward to meeting them but a bit scared because he as never been to Sarf London and there may be 'gangs firing stuff at the car' Made me chuckle, thought I would share :-)
  24. Mellors Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I think I'd be reducing my cleaner's rate if I had > to pay her for 40 hours a week though..... Totally agree!! Cleaners don't get paid for every hour of the working day, their travel between jobs is unpaid and each job is probably 2 or 3 hours, realistically a max of 3 jobs a day, more than likely 2.
