On Rye Lane, or just off it : Bar Story, Brick Brewery, Peckham Springs, Honest Burgers, Levan, Il Giardino, Cravings La Carretta, CLF Art Lounge, Bar Om, Miss Tapas, Flamin Mangal, 200 Rye Lane, White Horse, Banh Banh, Pedler, Mr Bao, Voodoo Ray, Four Quarters, Taco Queen, John The Unicorn, Rye Wax, Bussey Rooftop, Yadas, Forza Win, Kanpai, the many outlets in Peckham Levels, Franks bar... I'm sure I've missed several. New things are opening all the time. Then plenty more places to eat and drink in Bellenden Rd area, and also round Queens Rd too. There is, in fact, much more choice in Peckham than East Dulwich. People travel there to go out eating, drinking, clubbing... you can't really say that about ED. However, I will admit that Peckham is pretty scruffy and not to everybody's taste, and some of these places are a bit hidden away. East Dulwich has a more laid back, affluent, suburban, family-friendly feel. If I'm taking my parents (in their 70s) out for lunch or dinner, it would usually be in ED because it's much more in their comfort zone. But if I'm going out for drinks with friends, I wouldn't really bother with ED these days.
  2. They're about 1 metre narrower than typical Victorian terraced houses. You often don't have your own hallway downstairs, and they can feel a little cramped. Bedroom #2 is often rather small. In terms of space, they're really an alternative to a 2-bed flat rather than a fully-fledged house (but a lot more expensive than a 2-bed flat). On the plus side, as others have said, they can often be extended, and some of them end up feeling quite spacious if done well. And of course you get a garden.

I'm not sure where the boundary of Nunhead lies (and I hasten to add I've certainly never seen "first dates"), but Nunhead green is a pretty easy walk from PR station - along Philip Walk or Scylla Rd - and Peckham Rye is approximately 5 times more useful than Nunhead station!
  4. Haha... yeah I expect they're keeping it quiet...
  5. 10-11 is tricky... especially if you really want to stay local! Recumbent bikes in Dulwich park? Cinema? Pedalos in Crystal Palace? The swimming pool in Deptford is good for kids, they have wave machine and water slides. Or maybe the Brockwell Lido (but might be rammed this wknd). Go-karts in Bermondsey? If willing to go further afield (or maybe for another time), check out Clip n Climb.
  6. Hahaha... very good...

  8. It's a well known scheme, it is very unlikely to be genuine. Well done for dealing with them and not getting intimidated.
  9. Sounds like good advice, DR.
  10. You really do need to check the lease to see who is responsible for this type of maintenance. With many properties, there's nobody actively managing it and it's up to the leaseholders to arrange repairs themselves (or liaise with the insurer).
  11. Have you checked whether the buildings insurance covers this?

Curry sauce is common in Liverpool, Manc, Leeds chippies... much more so than London. And a quick Google seems to indicate that it's big in Ireland. Not sure about Wales... don't go there much...
  13. In my experience, there isn't much savings to be made anyway. The advantage is that you can refurb it to your taste/spec, but the discount such properties are offered at is not generous.
  14. I'm not convinced, I think curry sauce with chips is mainly a northern thing. I don't think many chippies down here will have a vat of warm curry sauce ready to serve.

Chip shop curry sauce is always made from sort of powder/granules. Absolutely standard. Saying that, I'm not a massive fan of Emily's either. Fish just not crispy enough.
  16. It is a good place for breakfast or lunch with kids. So will miss it. But IMO - there are much better coffee and pastries to be found locally.
  17. I paid. Not received a label yet. This morning they took my bin away! No contact details on southwark website. WTF am I supposed to do now!!
  18. If it was me, I'd hope the shopkeeper would keep it safe for a day or two. Saying that, he's under no obligation to do so, and slagging him off publicly is probably a bit harsh.

  20. Yes, Homeland is good. Also Stranger Things, Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul, Black Mirror, Daredevil, Derry Girls, Schitts Creek, Altered Carbon, Dark, When They See Us, The Man In The High Castle, Walking Dead... too many to mention really...
  21. The only recyclable bit is surely the plastic casing, so 50% at most. It would need to be cleanly dismantled and separated... TBH I'd be surprised if BT really did recycle them.
  22. UG, nice to see you are so concerned about LGBT equality.

You'll cripple yourself carrying on like that. If you can afford it, go to a running shop for advice. Otherwise, do what fox says, go to decathlon and buy whatever feels comfortable and supportive.
