If you can sort me out with any tips that work on both East End boys and West End girls, I'd be all ears.

Horniman Gardens - Proposed changes to the Gardens
fishbiscuits replied to dbboy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The museum is quite family-oriented, I wouldn't argue with that. That doesn't make it a "play centre" or a "no-go area", though. It just sounds like you're just not comfortable in that sort of environment. I've been there quite a lot (both pre and post kids) and I would suggest that your accounts are either isolated incidents, or exaggerated. -
How about "The Doctors".

Lynne Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The museum is already no-go area for adults Why is it a no-go area? Maybe it is if you are unable to tolerate children... but then surely the same goes for most museums, and parks too. -

Not really heard the music, but certainly heard the fireworks on Saturday night!

Don't know much about the train. But if you find yourself in that neck of the woods again, keep on going a bit further down to Norbury, and check out "Karachi Cuisine". You won't regret it!

For weekly cleaning, vacuum is best. Then every month or so, as snoop and maria said, mop with a bit of flash/dettol or whatever, and wring it out very thoroughly.

Seeing as it's stuck outside your house, it could be worth trying a mobile mechanic, rather than paying for a recovery truck. I've previously used ClickMechanic to find local mobile mechanics... but obviously it's a bit pot luck..

Famous People in Sainsburys
fishbiscuits replied to Ladygooner's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I'm not sure if it's "creepy", people have always been drawn to celebrities... it's only natural, if you're into a particular TV show or whatever. And to an extent it's part and parcel of pursuing a career in the public eye. There is a line, of course, but nobody is discussing what road they live on, posting secret photos of them, or anything like that. However... saying that... I've not really heard of any of these people. (I mean, I've heard of Eastenders and Game Of Thrones, but wouldn't recognize any cast members - except for Sharon and the Mitchell brothers). -
That really sucks for them. Best of luck, and I will be sure to try it when it DOES open.

I've seen a couple around Dulwich Village / College Rd before. Rare, though.

New Sweet Shop on Lordship Lane
fishbiscuits replied to Passiflora's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
You're both semi-correct. They had bigger plans (shops in central London and Tokyo, distribution to department stores and supermarkets) and the original shop was no longer a priority... and a hike in rent ultimately made the decision a no-brainer. Unfortunately they went into administration shortly afterwards. Someone else owns the brand name now. -

Yeah... but.. just because someone has decided to go veggie/vegan doesn't mean that they might not occasionally miss an old favourite meat dish. It probably isn't something you'll eat every day, but now and again, why not. Seitan seems to be used a lot these days.. tried some a while ago, it kind of reminded me of doner kebab meat.

The Old Jaflong Restaurant to become a Pizza place

Good luck foxucus, hope it all goes well. Surgeons are clever buggers. I'm sure you'll be back here, telling everyone that you don't like pizza before you know it. -

Weekend trains have always been a bit of a joke. What I would say is that at least travelling from PR, you can always get a train to somewhere on a Saturday or Sunday. Be it London Bridge, Victoria, Blackfriars, or onto the Overground. Not ideal, but it least it gets you Central-ish, or onto the tube network. From ED, you're stuck with the bus when the trains are down!

I remember all the excitement(?) about Nando's. I don't know what happened.. perhaps the redevelopment of the Alesham centre changed things? Nando's would be fine with me. At least it's something pretty much everyone can enjoy. You can't really claim many places along Rye Lane appeal to a cross-section of the community. Maybe Costa... *maybe* McDonalds.

June 3rd will be the last day of The Palmerston
fishbiscuits replied to DulwichFox's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The Palmerston was a fantastic restaurant. So many excellent meals there over the years. If you prefer pubs to restaurants/gastropubs then fine, maybe you'll be happy with the new offering. The place has good bones. But don't expect affordable beers, and the food will almost certainly be inferior value to it's predecessor. -
Abe_froeman Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > East Dulwich has the independent Monkatsu selling > exactly the same stuff but in a more imaginative > and independent way than the corporate Tonkotsu > chain of restaurants But it's not the same. Tonkotsu is a ramen specialist. Monkatsu do several types of Japanese food (katsu, teriyaki, tempura, noodles, sushi, and a type of ramen.. probably miso based). I do like Monkatsu, but normally in Japan you wouldn't find a restaurant doing all these different things, restaurants often do just one thing, and make sure they get it right. So while Tonkotsu is a chain, you could argue it's a more authentic experience. Angelina Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > ?10 for a bowl of ramen is a bit pricey though and will limit > it's customers and exlcude many - this is what the > start of 'poshing up' an area looks like. Personally I don't think ?10-?12 for a bowl of ramen is bad.. especially if you go for the traditional pork broth base, it's a rich, filling bowl of food. Wagamama is a similar price (for an inferior version), and I don't think many people would claim that Wagamama is "posh". TBH it's a hard to get a decent meal for much less than a tenner these days anyway. DulwichFox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > So where is/will be this new Tonkotsu place ?? It will be in the new "Market Peckham" building, which is in-between the entrance to the Bussey building, and Khans Bargains on Rye Lane. The building work is still in progress... in fact it still looks like a shell to me, so would be surprised if any of the restaurants opened in August. Although saying that, I'm sometimes Amazed at the speed at which these people can complete a fit-out, so you never know...

Anyone rented their place out recently? Advice please
fishbiscuits replied to HelBel65's topic in The Lounge
I use Daisylets - fully managed, as I don't have the time to find tradespeople, or fix things myself. Would recommend.
