  1. I'll confess to plagiarising this idea. Can you describe your favorite movie as boringly as possible? An example I saw was "5 kids stuck in the school library all day." (the breakfast club)
  2. Thanks James If I remember correctly, the rising bollards were installed by the then Peckham Programme team (thankfully now disbanded) after their town centre manager went to see it in operation in Oxford. The difference was Oxfordshire drivers respected the bollards that lowered to let buses through and the Peckham drivers believed they could drive over them by tailgating buses. Quite a few cars were wrecked if I remember correctly so a very expensive but badly thought through scheme failed and cost even more to remove a few years later. You would hope that the transport team in the council would have learnt how not to waste our money by now but hey ho Really don't understand why they just don't something like widen the pavements with passing points and loading bays built in then allow buses only and a limited permit managed no of delivery vehicles to traverse what would effectively by a single track road where buses pause in the passing bays to let each other pass. (A sort of extension of the scheme outside the section at the Aylsham centre) Of course a scheme like this would need proper consultation but it could boost night time and restaurant economy by allowing tables to use the wider pavements outside core shopping hours
  3. Whilst this is slightly out if the area, it has to be mentioned. Rye lane will be closed to allow pedestrians to shop safely. Buses will be diverted and not use Rye Lane. Going to make shopping in Peckham hard for those that rely on buses to get there, including the elderly, disabled or those with children. Most shops don't have rear access so restocking will also be difficult. From past closures of Rye Lane, this will potentially have a massive negative impact on the businesses along its length. Not sure Southwark have a joined up approach to this end of the borough or have consulted local businesses and residents about how their implementation of street closures in Dulwich and Peckham will impact them.
  4. So true springtime We give companies like facebook and twitter (other social media platforms are also available) massive insights into our lives so that they can push tailored adverts towards us whilst also allowing us to become people we aren't (look at me, I must be popular as I'm eating tofu in a steak house and 73 people I've never met like it...) or to post comments about people we've never met (or will meet in real life) Maybe it's time to tear down the social media fiefdoms and return to good old fashioned real friendship again and remove the big companies ability to influence our lives. When will we wake up to the fact that the greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world that social media was social.
  5. Saw an article that points out theme parks are opening this weekend and people have to wear a mask when on the rides. Why can I just see that being an accident about to happen when little Billy brings up his third hotdog just at the apex of the looping twisting ride into his mask. Not sure I would want to be going to a theme park at the moment !
  6. It's a real thing but the licences are fake as are any of the documents they can provide Don't fall for it

Or there are far too many people in London which overwhelmes the infrastructure and ability for all to share the space efficiently regardless if they are car, bike or waking supporters. The argument can be cut many ways depending on the point of view you want to promote.
  8. I can just see the headlines now It's independence day !

  11. It seems that social media (and sadly forums like this) are killing neighbourly interaction. Before I start the forum has useful posts about things like "healthy streets" which galvanise groups of people to understand and work together about issues but far too often there are posts about "my neighbour has a security light" or "my neighbour has noisy kids" or even "Mrs Brown, my neighbour picks blackberry's in the nip" ! Why oh why do the ops not politely knock on their neighbours door (or post note through their letter box if they are too much of a coward to knock) and have a civil discussion. It most probably isn't a problem your neighbour is aware off, they may actually be nice people, sympathetic and understanding and you may even (god forbid) become friends. But all too often people hide behind a pseudo name, and post a complaint that 99% of East Dulwich isn't effected by but will give opinion on. It's like the old days when someone cried "monster" and the locals all gathered by torch light with pitchforks to drive the monster away (2012 I believe was the last time.) In these troubled times we all need a bit of neighbourly support and community spirit so maybe rather than posting on here, go have that conversation first ! Oh and the person parking where I normally do .....
  12. Rather than post on here about how annoying it is, the light must belong to one of your neighbours so why not politely knock on their door and mention it (or ask someone else to knock if you are shielding) !
  13. Foxy They don't work on your mange only moths and if the right sized ones are used for the room size (I.e. big room = 2 bombs) then repeated a month later they tend to kill larvae, eggs and moths to stop the cycle !
  14. Tongue in cheek but if impersonating someone you aren't is wrong (black / brown face , Apu in the Simpson's being voices by a white person) should we then take this view further and stop drag acts as it degrades women who have spent years struggling against male oppression to get equal rights ? Should Dame Edna be finally put out of her misery ? Should Drag shows be defrocked ? And finally can we all agree that Mrs Browns Boys just isn't funny ? Whilst it is tongue in cheek and there is a serious issue with using humorous costumes / face paint to put someone down , the real question is where should it stop ?
  15. From VIZ today (perfect timing)
  16. Moth bombs , light the blue touch paper ,clear out of the room whilst it fills with smoke that kills moths, larvae and eggs then air the room !
  17. For years people have criticised patents for wrapping their kids in cotton wall, not letting them play outside or walk to school (despite the obvious health benefits) Now they have been stuck in for months and parents rather than teachers have has their full attention, we seem to be complaining they are outside playing, being a bit noisy and being normal like we all were as kids. Do we need to wrap adults in cotton wool too now or should we just accept the situation as not ideal but it is what it is ? I would rather see kids expelling their energy and playing creatively in the garden or park than growing up to be oppressed and scared of the world outside their own front doors !
  18. Wait till Saturday the 4th when pubs reopen and the streets will be filled by drunk noisy revellers 😱
  19. Try asking foxy to talk to them His posts are enough to bore anyone to death 😱
  20. Peckhamgatecrasher Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Recommendations please. > > Some plonker practising a clarinet in the garden > from 8.10 am this morning is making me desperate. "Kindness" or "softly with his song" are two good recommendations !
  21. I just read the guidance concerning pubs reopening and there is one point that will give publicans a sigh of relief "Reminding customers who are accompanied by children that they are responsible for supervising them at all times and should follow social distancing guidelines." So no longer can patents allow Little Lord Fauntleroy or Little Miss Mischief to run riot in pubs or restaurants expecting staff to act as unpaid child minders or clear up after them Silent cheer goes up in establishments all over England !

  23. However John, and playing devils advocate here, does stating "Welsh lives matter" highlight that they are a different cultural group to everyone else whereas using an all inclusive slogan remove diversity by saying everyone is equal ? The argument for and against both slogans are complex and dangerous and I just hope that we get to a balance point soon where everyone treats each other equally
  24. This morning on the 9am BBC news, Liverpool council are talking about how they will suspend parking bays around restaurants to allow people to sit out side and stay safe whilst eating. This strikes me as what the corona virus emergency funds and powers were given to local authorities for and not to close streets to traffic to suit the authorities own anti car agenda. Can we replace southwark council with the team from Liverpool please ?
