  1. People in the proposed CPZ zones , look our of your windows this morning and tell us if there are significantly more parking spaces our there as there should no commuters or school runners taking them up. If the parking is as mad as normal then we have been sold a pig in poke as the problem is actually down to the number of residents who have cars. Looking out of my window today there are as many cars parked our there as normal so it means , IMHO , that the council are trying to sell us a myth that it will get better. The traders are asking the council to postpone it's implementation during the covid 19 epidemic as it will impact the few that are allowed to open at the moment and I fully support their actions.
  2. Southwark has kings on its doorstep so that may skew the numbers slightly but that's only speculation
  3. Rollflick your logic is a bit flawed on cpz there The idea of the cpz is to deter commuters and as only a very few are commuting at the moment then it will be mostly residents parking so delaying it's roll out won't impact delivery drivers as the commuters will be parked outside their own homes... As for parking for medics a friend is one and they aren't working normal shifts and he gets exhausted wearing all the protective gear (he's on the covid positive unit) so if he could drive thus saving half an hour each way on his journey means he could have an extra hour of previous sleep, and what happens when bus drivers or train drivers go sick thus reducing services ? Do you envision medics not getting to work at all. If you were in the covid positive ward you would want them to be well rested and available to get to work to look after you I'm sure.
  4. James You asked for and now have good ideas, but typically you haven't responded to any of them or said what the council is going to do Step up and do your job as a councillor and respond to the community. Put out strong messages of reassurance on what actions the council are taking to support the community and vulnerable who have to self isolate !
  5. James Pausing things like the introduction of the cpz or consultations on healthy streets would be a good thing as people have other things to worry about at the moment rather than have they filled in a form, can't get online to get a permit or even can they afford a permit if their job is in danger (or getting a ticket because they were ill when the scheme starts) It at seem like a petty thing but at the moment people need to reduce the things they worry about. The ideas above to create temporary hospitals (maybe use pubs as no one can go out to them anyway if we isolate) are key and planning how to get food to those who need it most but taking into account some people aren't online. Also look at how people with medical needs get treatment at home safely (boost district nurse support as hospital outpatient appointments are not always going to be possible )
  6. Sorry Sue I was implying that whilst they have hoarded loads of yummy food to cook, they would be using services to get their McDonald's take away delivered , not supermarket delivery services...
  7. I wonder with all these people buying food products including flour and pasta, will they just horde them till they go out of date or fall in love with making bread and cooking again. This could just be the start of a cure for obesity in the UK with people eating a better diet ! Or will they just call a delivery service and feel smug that they can survive the zombie apocalypse with their horde of tinned and dried goods.
  8. JohnL do you work for the national press as you seem to be falling into their domain of spreading fear and panic over Covid-19 ? So far numbers of cases in the UK are relatively low and whilst the very worst case scenario could see over a period of time that a majority of people will catch it (much like colds and Flu's) we won't all be down with it at the same time, public & emergency services may have peaks and troughs in numbers but things will still work to a good degree. Whilst I am concerned it's an unknown strain of coronavirus, we shouldn't panic (yet) and good hygiene, not going to work / school / out if people aren't feeling well and making sure unnecessary personal contact (hugging, Hand shaking ...) is kept to a minimum then hopefully it will pass by with minimal impact on most people.

  10. Or you could roll up your sleeves and do your own cleaning thus eliminating the cost of a cleaner and the parking issue. Bit radical and old school but who knows it could start a new trend in the area !
  11. Obviously a device designed for use in a sharknado. The one with the widest nozzle to catch the biggest sharks is my recommendation 😂
  12. I'm Louisa 😱 Sorry I'm Spartacus !
  13. I did a contract for Southwark council once, nuff said 😭
  14. Things change , just look at how Peckham has turned around over the last decade. Therefore I'm nor sure what your issue with the Ivy house is here or would you rather it remained as was but closed due to lack of business or investment ?
  15. Last night the leader of Southwark council tweeted he is stepping down Let's hope Mr Livingstone, the mastermind behind CPZ introductions, the current poor proposals for healthy streets and other money grabbing ideas doesn't step up otherwise forget coronavirus as we're all doomed

  18. No one said it was wonderful Sue, I'm simply questioning why we moved away from so many environmentally friendly practices to a point where we are now worried about major impacts of our consumerism on the environment. The antibiotic reference was in context of people stupidly taking them now for conditions that can't be treated by them thus causing resistance and potential loss of effective drugs and it wasn't a dig at antibiotics as a genuine medical treatment.
  19. You've got to question where we went wrong environmentally In the past we had electric trams and electric trolley buses that were abandoned due to the issues of overhead line maintenance and inability to do a diversion if the road was blocked, yet now they are looking to introduce electric busses We used to have milk delivered by electric floats in glass bottles but now it's all in plastic containers from the shops which people often drive polluting cars to get there. Lemonade came in deposit paid recyclable bottles (and tasted better) Local Fruit and veg was sold by greengrocers and if it was out of season it wasn't flown in Local shops served goods in brown paper bags and people took shopping bags or trolleys when shopping, none of this packaged in plastic and then packed into a plastic bag nonsense Early supermarkets often had a pile of boxes you could pick up to pack your items into to if you didn't have bags with you We had windmills and watermills to power industry and now people are excitable about wind farms (either for or against) and hydro or wave powered solutions. Because of government decisions to cut train and bus services people were driven to use cars Shops were on every street so you were able to walk to them and not have to drive to the supermarket to get a loaf of bread. And kids walked or cycled to a school near their home rather than travelling miles to get to a school that has the best results. We all used a land-line that didn't need charging every 12 hours and only one television in the house so electricity usage was minimum as there were only a few devices connected to the mains. Tablets were awful tasting things from the doctor ! and most things were cured with a dose of cod liver oil and not antibiotics. People bought what they needed on a regular (often daily) basis and made home cooked meals , not ready meals which reduced food waste, helped keep obesity to a minimum and families ate together. I sometimes think progress and big companies selling us a flawed dream has come at a cost that we are only now starting to realise. Maybe we should look back at our past to help design our future.
  20. Read that Tesla, who are making electric cars to stop carbon emission and pollution are running into issues with the greens whilst building their new plant in Germany. BBC News - Tesla: German court halts work on new 'Gigafactory' https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-51525673 Something's got to give to enable everyone to be happy.
  21. It doesn't matter if you're rich or poor We're all the same on the dance floor

    Clowns

It's an old thread but Viz have finally identified the dangers presented by clowns !
  24. Seenbeen that's a truly sad state of affairs, that kids are so brainwashed into eating badly that they choose it over healthy options. I wonder if the adverts were banned and healthy options are promoted from a young age, then over say ten years, that the nation's diet would change as young people aren't indoctrinated into poor diets ? Something's got to give before the waistbands of the nation does.
