  1. Keano your statement of "Unfortunately Spartacus the emotive argument you present will only go so far. The longer lockdown continues in the U.K. the danger is the economy will collapse, house prices and pensions will collapse and unemployment will be unprecedented." Is also a dangerous emotive drive for people to make a decision based on protecting their financial assets, over protecting lives in my mind. My argument above is that the public shouldn't be asked to make a decision because for what ever reason they will be tempted to vote based on their own particular circumstances rather than what is actually best for the country / population as a whole. Maybe there needs to be an external and balanced, in terms of scientific and economical members, committee to review and make decisions on when and how to come out of lock down rather than a public vote
  2. Jim lad, as part of your people's decision are you going to ask the opinion of staff in hospitals who have been working day and night to make sure the numbers of people who die are lower than predicted ? Who have been getting Covid as a result of looking after people who thought the lock down didn't apply to them till they became ill, and who are looking forward to being able to take a bit of time off to catch up on rest, get counselling for PTSD type symptoms after seeing so many extra people die because of Covid ? Or care home workers who, whilst they expect the people they look after to die, are also seeing them die prematurely and the workers are also catching covid either from their patients or from idiots who ignore the lock down ? What about bus drivers, shop staff, restaurant and pub staff and so on who will catch it from someone who didn't isolate when they have symptoms ? Your suggestion of a people's decision makes a mockery of the hard work and sacrifice everyone has made so far to keep the peak low and to try and save the system from being overwhelmed ! Just so that people can get back to work, to stop being inconvenienced and to enable them to go to the pub, watch a football game or other selfish things. Do the lessons from the Spanish Flu pandemic not serve as a warning ? Yes when the time is right, the numbers of new infections are so low that a second wave is not on the horizon then, and only then should we really consider relaxing the lock down in controlled and measures phases, but doing it for any other reason is blatant stupidity and selfish in my opinion.

  4. Hello James Can you look into the issue that road works are now scheduled by Conway starting the first week of May along Crystal Palace Road (resurfacing) and Barry Road (crossing update and pavement improvements at the area around Barry's Off licence ) These works will obviously require parking restrictions and people to move their cars but no consideration is given to people who are shielded with cars who can't physically get out to move them for another 2 months. Whilst the quieter roads may be an ideal time for Conway to work, it's not a great time for residents. Can these "non essential" works not be postponed until the Vulnerable groups no longer be required to stay home to shield them from the virus. I look forward with eager anticipation to your response as this is possibly being repeated all over Southwark at the moment and as someone elected to represent people (not Conway) then I hope you can stop this blatant stupidity from continuing

  6. I stopped doing poker when coal fires were banned in London 😆
  7. James Just seen that "essential works" include closing the pavements along Barry Road for tree trimming , thus causing pedestrians to either walk in the busy main road or cross over and walk close to each other More council madness that should be suspended during the stay at home period as it will stop people being able to safely get to Peckham Rye park for exercise.
  8. Maybe woodcrest also has a broken foot on the opposite leg and is proposing entry to a three legged race when social distancing measured are relaxed 🤔

  11. Keano I'm sure Mrs Bloggs and his 3 children wouldn't agree with you. What makes a has been celeb more important ? Joe could have been about to solve one of life's big mystery for all we know. Foxy I saying if they are going to highlight one death from covid they should highlight them all or no one at all. Your concept would have been the same as saying there should be no war Memorial's erected with soldiers names on. Everyone is supposed to be equal in God's eyes but the media instead wants sensational news to sell. Either mention them all by name or mention no-one's name to be fair to those who can't even go to the funerals of family members at the moment.
  12. What bugs me about this crisis is that they (the media) are focusing on the death of Eddie Large yet very little about the 560 plus others who died in the past 24 hours. Each one of their lives was just as important and valuable to their families and friends and I find it sad that a former celebrity gets more media attention than "ordinary" people. If the media are going to put one death in the spotlight they need to put all those who have lost their fight on the same pedestal. Rant over

  16. I've just asked James McAsh to ensure bins aren't left in the street after they are emptied as this will stop people leaving their houses to move them back in A small thing but important after last nights announcement
  17. James Something simple you can do is make sure that the refuse collectors put bins back inside people's gates when they empty them Today they emptied mine then left it in the middle of the foot path thus forcing me to leave my house contrary to the instructions from the government last night to stay in and not leave your house Please make this action a priority to protect people For information the refuse collectors are doing a good valid role but this is a an addition measure they can do to help us all
  18. People in the proposed CPZ zones , look our of your windows this morning and tell us if there are significantly more parking spaces our there as there should no commuters or school runners taking them up. If the parking is as mad as normal then we have been sold a pig in poke as the problem is actually down to the number of residents who have cars. Looking out of my window today there are as many cars parked our there as normal so it means , IMHO , that the council are trying to sell us a myth that it will get better. The traders are asking the council to postpone it's implementation during the covid 19 epidemic as it will impact the few that are allowed to open at the moment and I fully support their actions.
  19. Southwark has kings on its doorstep so that may skew the numbers slightly but that's only speculation
  20. Rollflick your logic is a bit flawed on cpz there The idea of the cpz is to deter commuters and as only a very few are commuting at the moment then it will be mostly residents parking so delaying it's roll out won't impact delivery drivers as the commuters will be parked outside their own homes... As for parking for medics a friend is one and they aren't working normal shifts and he gets exhausted wearing all the protective gear (he's on the covid positive unit) so if he could drive thus saving half an hour each way on his journey means he could have an extra hour of previous sleep, and what happens when bus drivers or train drivers go sick thus reducing services ? Do you envision medics not getting to work at all. If you were in the covid positive ward you would want them to be well rested and available to get to work to look after you I'm sure.
  21. James You asked for and now have good ideas, but typically you haven't responded to any of them or said what the council is going to do Step up and do your job as a councillor and respond to the community. Put out strong messages of reassurance on what actions the council are taking to support the community and vulnerable who have to self isolate !
  22. James Pausing things like the introduction of the cpz or consultations on healthy streets would be a good thing as people have other things to worry about at the moment rather than have they filled in a form, can't get online to get a permit or even can they afford a permit if their job is in danger (or getting a ticket because they were ill when the scheme starts) It at seem like a petty thing but at the moment people need to reduce the things they worry about. The ideas above to create temporary hospitals (maybe use pubs as no one can go out to them anyway if we isolate) are key and planning how to get food to those who need it most but taking into account some people aren't online. Also look at how people with medical needs get treatment at home safely (boost district nurse support as hospital outpatient appointments are not always going to be possible )
  23. Sorry Sue I was implying that whilst they have hoarded loads of yummy food to cook, they would be using services to get their McDonald's take away delivered , not supermarket delivery services...
  24. I wonder with all these people buying food products including flour and pasta, will they just horde them till they go out of date or fall in love with making bread and cooking again. This could just be the start of a cure for obesity in the UK with people eating a better diet ! Or will they just call a delivery service and feel smug that they can survive the zombie apocalypse with their horde of tinned and dried goods.
