New Shops in Dulwich / Peckham - 2024 Edition
Spartacus replied to Joe's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Anyone know what's happening to good neighbour ? The whole chain seems to have closed, which is a shame as it was always good. -
Gets my vote for PM

Possibly right, triggered by one of three things. War in Ukraine turning a nasty corner and Russia launching a limited nuclear strike China deciding to escalate the situation around Taiwan North Korea taking advantage of the world's political instability caused by the two events above On second thoughts, a US president going senile and thinking they are calling the presidential bottom wiper, will accidently press the wrong button 🤔

Obviously the council has a time machine 🤣 Must have paid for it with all the money they make from the CPZ revenue generating machine 😉

Loving the escalation of promises that the parties are spouting at the moment. The sound bites are great, todays are more prison places or more funding for mental health but as always the devil is in the detail. How exactly are they going to deliver each election promise? Throwing money at something is the start but then they have to build or train or recruit to make it happen which is where the real work to deliver occurs. Personality i'm taking anything each party says with a huge pinch of salt and then looking at how they will deliver to understand if its achievable or not. For example saying we will fix the NHS by giving it x billion doesn't explain where they will get the staff from to make change happen, Dr's and Nurses can't be trained in a week 😉 so where's the details of the plans behind the soundbites? Regardless the next 4 years, no matter who wins, are going to be hard and interesting.

Royal Mail Late Deliveries and the price we have to pay
Spartacus replied to a topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Whilst Another Annie could even pay all bills by direct debit, the point is that it shouldn't be that hard to get post delivered and what other important documentation is going missing ? -

Stolen sofa delivery on Worlingham Road
Spartacus replied to nicgut's topic in Lost, Found or Stolen
Hopefully that's the case, unless the receiver left specific instructions concerning a safe place (i.e. behind the bins) in which case the receiver is deemed to have accepted the goods and their responsibility if they go missing. Obviously in this case a safe place would be hard to identify but none the less if any instructions were given to leave it if no one is in then responsibility is removed from the company and courier. Equally, I've had cases where a delivery didn't occur and tracking shows it had, only for delivery actually occur a day or days later. -
After watching the two main contenders on itv tonight, abandon all hope is my only comment Neither could answer a straight question with conviction IMHO.

This thread is more exciting to watch than House of Dragons (who's politically out manoeuvred who, will Malumbu get his Dragon bike, keep reading to find out who will finally sit on the Iron LTN throne 😉 words will be crossed, intrigue will occur and lots of SUV sex may or may not happen) Season 2 due June only on the streets of Dulwich Village.

@malumbu the question concerns is there a better way for councils to work with businesses and residents to dispose of waste? Thete was a clear increase in fly tipping when councils made it more restrictive to dispose of waste, so rather than making it harder and with bigger fines, is there a better model where recycling can be at the forefront and less restrictive to dispose of waste ?
-
There's an article on the BBC website today talking about some councils increasing fines for fly tipping. BBC News - Londoners told not to fly-tip as fines increase https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c5117rdn92wo And quite right that fly tippers are penalised, however playing devil's advocat here, as councils have made it harder amd harder for businesses and households to get rid of bulk waste, have they had a partial hand in increasing fly tipping? Maybe there needs to be a rethink about how bulk or large waste is delt with to remove the prospect of fly tipping and to make it easier for recycling without penalising those getting rid of rubbish rather than, as the OP points out, making it harder to get rid off thus raising the risk of fly tipping?

So fickle @malumbu for someone who screams out about caring for the environment. Try and keep your story straight and not get diverted by things you secretly enjot is my best advice.

Looks more like the Somme to me Maybe that's the point, the Gaia is the Somme of its parts 🤔

Cracking Cheese Gromit 😅 -
It's possibly in the bidding process to hold an event, gala offers to pay £x and if that information is publicly known than rivals know how much to bid next year to just beat it, however the council possibly want to gain as much revenue as they can so highest bidder wins. Therefore by keeping the winning bid commercially secret, next year someone may come in at a multiple higher as they don't know what the winning bid is this year. Standard practice when requesting quotes like this.

Maybe they are gala Protesters as they have been evicted from the Rye 🤣
