  1. Interesting expression "Not many have a car" According to the RAC foundation there are 33.27 million cars in the UK https://www.racfoundation.org/motoring-faqs/mobility#:~:text=In the United Kingdom%2C there, the end of March 2023. According to Statista the UK population is 56.33 million https://www.statista.com/statistics/281208/population-of-the-england-by-age-group/ Removing under 18s and over 80s to account for those that don't drive (yes I know some over 80s drive but easy maths) removes 15 million people who may not own cars. Therefore approximately 48 million people are car driving age and on average each person owns .8 of a car. (statistically speaking) Obviously its not as simple as that, some own multiple, some none and some have only 1 car in a family. However the much touted "not many have a car" is skewed by inner city residents who may not own a car and doesn't represent those further out or outside big metropolitan areas who need a car. I can therefore see why declaring war against the war on motorists would be a clever move towards getting voters confidence.
  2. From the stories I've heard Alice, get proper insulation and not foam as that causes more problems then it's worth. My insulation is between the floor rafters and does a great job. Only thing to think is if you are going to board it out then you will need to consider some sort of lifter to take the boards above the insulation if your joists aren't that thick.
  3. No ones angry about LTNs Mel, the anger is about how underhand this council were and are in introducing schemes against consistents wishes. Southwark were given some money to implement temporary social distancing measures during covid but seem to have used the proverb "given an inch take a mile" of parking away 🤔 As said, a central review isn't a bad thing to occur and may bring sanity back into what feels like a land grab by the council.
  4. Will be interesting to see if the Borough wide CPZ also gets caught up in the process. Again an abuse of the consultation process.
  5. It always had turnstiles so one assumes never free. I just came across a report about what happened to the money from 2 years ago. https://www.peckhamryepark.org/news/2016/7/17/former-lido-site Looks like it funded a feasibility study that shows it needed 6 million to deliver but of course we were in a pandemic then and cost of living crisis now so I am hoping that the scheme will be revisited in gje future as it will be great for the area.
  6. Why not Alice ? I there was a lido there once before
  7. Mal London is not feasible as a 15 minute city, whilst there are pockets of similar facilities spread across London, some things just can't be local so travel of more than 15 minutes is essential. Even removing all cars, buses can't physically get from one area to the next in 15 minutes unless thw driver is doing 80 and not picking up passengers. Personally I think it is sensible that things are being reviewed and revaluated to make sure those that work stay and those that haven't are removed to keep everyone moving.
  8. Two busy roads with good bus interchanges for passengers to get to rather than driving 🤔, also the location of the old lido and I believe the plan was to crowd find it rather than rely on Southwark to run it . Nothing disastrous about any of that in my mind Alice
  9. I see tooting bec lido is getting more work done What a shame the proposed lido at peckham rye didn't go ahead BBC News - Tooting Bec Lido to get refurbishment of public facilities https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-66959987
  10. This popped up in feed this morning https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/pm-expected-to-limit-new-20mph-zones/ar-AA1hqR1u?ocid=entnewsntp&cvid=09d8efec03044371b5d3b6be83833b3f&ei=29 Talking about the potential changes that may be introduced by the government. It is quoted as saying "He (Rishi) is reportedly planning to limit the power of local authorities to impose new 20mph zones, restrict the number of hours a day that cars are banned from bus lanes, and scale back low-traffic neighbourhoods (LTNs)" However I love the quote further iin which is 'Sarah Mitchell, chief executive of charity Cycling UK, said: “When Beeching took an axe to local railways in the 1960s, we were robbed of the freedom to choose how we travel. The Government’s reported Plan for Motorists feels like history repeating itself."' Isn't that a little pot and kettle saying that as the cycling lobby seems to want to remove our freedom of choice to drive 🤔 Politics huh, everyone spinning but none making sense.
  11. I wonder how Southwarks ideal to remove cars from streets will tally with the Mayors drive to charge to drive. His latest salvo is of course the plan to charge for using the Blackwall tunnel. If there are no cars, TfL will face a drop in revenue from congestion, ULEZ and road / tunnel tolls. Would love to see how them circle's are squared off!
  12. Is this going to increase traffic going towards and using the south circular as East Dulwich Grove is an alternative route to Brixton or Tulse Hill ?
  13. That's going to be interesting for the 37 bus 🫣 EAST DULWICH GROVE, SE22: Route 37 is on diversion in both directions via Herne Hill, Denmark Hill, Champion Park, Grove Lane and Grove Vale due to Thames Water works. Buses towards Putney Heath/Green Man will not serve stops ‘Derwent Grove’(B) to ‘Herne Hill’(E). Buses towards Peckham Bus Station will not serve stops ‘Herne Hill’(D) to ‘Derwent Grove’(U). Please allow extra time for your journey.
  14. I hope you have managed to reunite this lovely kitten with his owner
  15. Therein lies the crux of the matter, many of the roads that are being considered for a Borough wide CPZ don't currently have parking issues hence why it may well be an over reach of legal powers. Well argued in favour of not imposing a CPZ ex, hats off for joining the revolution
  16. Mal, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye
  17. Have I opened up the Viz app by mistake ?
  18. Oh I don't know Mal, as the article was a quote from Sergeant Stuart Ford, Cycle Response Unit, it does seem like it was aimed at cyclists. But that's just my reading of it
  19. I thought that was black taxi drivers from Essex ?
  20. I love the justification by James mCash "But once the zones are established, we receive many positive comments from residents about how much nicer and safer their communities feel" Beside removing some existing on street parking, including residents parking over their own driveways, there is no real change to the street space to validate that comment. Plus how many is "many" in his quote ? Maybe he should become a spin consultant and not a teacher 🤔
  21. Betty, as well as contacting your kical councillors, Copy in James mCash and your MP as they should be aware of this and ask for their assistance to resolve the issues. With the dumping issue, if you gave a crime reference showing when your car was stolen then approach lambeth council and lodge an appeal using the crime reference as evidence. If they refuse then take it to https://www.lgo.org.uk/ to raise an issue with Lambeth
  22. If you had read it correctly, you would see that I am not comparing rape and sexual assault to anything at all, I am highlighting the issue that social media plays in assuming guilt without a trial. What if, a bit of a stretch of anyones imagination, he is totally innocent of the crimes he is accused off? Could the reputational damage be undone? Let's look at the Depp vs Heard situation where film studios dropped him lile a tonne of bricks due to the accusations she made, yet at the end he was found mostly innocent. In the process, his reputation was damaged and it may be so damaged that he never has a big role again! Whilst bad news sells, there has to be a balance to make sure that Madia (press and social) doesn't try someone with out a jury.
  23. Out-of curiosity, are you advocating cycling in a shared space on the road with vehicle pollution only a few inches away against cycling through a greener space with less direct pollution ?
  24. It's already a pathway, the only change would be making it a solid surface, its not going to take anything away from the green space and will add more users to the space to enjoy it.
  25. Ad mentioned above, a cycleway is great but why not build it in the park where the current dirt path is? That would remove all conflict between vehicles and cyclists and make for a more pleasant cycling experience. I suspect it would also have cost savings over redesigning a road to include a cycleway.
