  1. This has been a long time now. Whilst the road resurface is a welcome improvement, the route is now severely congested.
  2. Please don't force more rat running onto Underhill Road. Even with traffic calming measures most cars exceed the limit. Potential idea - close Underhill halfway along so its no longer a "through" road, and residents can access from the appropriate end?
  3. I think the climbing/traversing wall is a great idea!
  4. Its a realtively short walk to Lordship Lane, quick bus to Forest Hill for Rail and Overground lines. Lovely place to live. Would be nice if traffic actually stuck to 20mph, but I won't start off on that again.
  5. Completely agree with PeckhamRose.
  6. Ahh thats the cause of the problem! Yes it's really been a change from some months ago - I didn't realise that was the change. This banks all the way up the hill now and often across the intesection. Also causes cars turning left out of Grove Hill Road onto Dog Kennel Hill to block the inside lane, further delaying buses and cyclists from entering the bus lane further down.

Also with Sky, 10 is probably about the average, never really had cause to complain over 2 to 3 years.
  8. Guys, grow up and look after your own actions rather than pretend concern for someone that you think is behaviung irresponsibly. I must side with Cyclist. Cyclist is not disobeying any road rules to my knowledge, and has confidence in his/her abilities. This opposition is the definition of nanny stateism. Let's all pass judgment on someone else's actions becuase we, the learned majority, is all knowing and righteous. Let's teach our children that risk is unacceptable and life must be lived inside a white fluffy cushion. Would the developed world be in its current state if our forefathers had thought like this? Did your parents behave so "righteously"? Let's let others live.
  9. Can someone explain to a layman why many central city areas across England are so labour centric?
  10. Ground anchors, if properly installed, worth their weight in gold, and it's worth spending up on chain and lock. Squire products are good, although not cheap.
  11. Hi mynamehere - interested in a private anchor point, but not sure who to contact? Would you have any details to hand? Many thanks !
  12. That's appalling. Anything in front of the house (ie skip on the road or on the footpath) I think is fair game. But in the yard is not.
  13. Perhaps you're right.
  14. I don't agree Ruffers - I don't see many cars using the bus lanes down Lordship Lane, so I don't feel they need stealth policing. I am convinced the CCTV cars are there for parking infringements, and this is straight after the government has issued guidance to stop using parking as a revenue raiser. That's my main issue with them.
  15. Completely agree tiddles, camera on pole if its a strip of the bus lane that is regularly congested by cars/vans using the bus lane. No excuse for engine running.
  16. I live near the intersection you describe - a week or two ago I saw people meeting this description, very early in the morning (6/6.30 ish), working from a large white van (something like a large Transit, high roof and long wheelbase). One man driving, the other walking the sidewalk ahead of the van and foraging through skips (there are two on the street at the moment)- anything of interest he placed on the sidewalk and van man stopped and quickly picked it up. They were moving quickly so by the time I realised what was happening they were gone - both men medium height, dark brown hair, olive skin. Not much more to go on I'm sorry, but by the sounds of it they are along regularly.
  17. And ruffers, as Saffron wrote above.
  18. By the way, this wasn't a thread agreeing or disagreeing with policing bus lanes. This was a thread about CCTV cars. As an aside, and perhaps to explain my annoyance with these cars - I had a ticket through the post from a CCTV car, for parking in my driveway with the nose of the car protruding across some of the footpath as I was unloading the boot of the car (something I didn't realise was illegal). I was "obstructing the footpath" or some such description. I thought it was a bit out of order as I live on a quiet street and don't think anyone was obstructed for the 10 or 15 minutes I was parked that way, and it arrived by mail weeks later. I would have preferred a parking inspector to politely say something like "excuse me sir, it is illegal to obstruct the footpath, would you mind placing your car more thoughtfully" rather than feel like an easy revenue target for Southwark Council. I don't think the cars are policing the bus lanes - I think they are looking for any parking violation they can find. I might be wrong.
  19. I would like one too...
  20. ed_pete, I don't agree with the CCTV cars, and I nickname them spy cars. Per Ruskin above, I do agree that bus-lanes need to be kept clear, but would prefer obvious enforcement with tickets written and placed at the time of the offence rather than stealth enforcement with infringement notices through the mail at a later date.
  21. Yes, speed guns - scooter was pulled over, police car parked in the centre, officer with speed gun talking to the scooter rider.
  22. For the last two evenings, during evening peak hour around 6pm, there have been police with speed guns pulling over vehicles on Borough High Street between Borough and Elephant and Castle, catching drivers travelling south. I wonder if this will reach Dulwich and the 20mph zones.
  23. This morning, and yesterday morning, whilst travelling north on Lordship lane around 7.45am, have noticed two Southwark CCTV spy cars parked up on the south travelling side of the main commercial area, about 100m apart, (circa the old sorsi & morsi) with camera poles fully extended. I thought that now the Deregulation Bill limited the use of CCTV to issue tickets to critical routes such as near schools, bus lanes, bus stops and red routes where public transport must be kept moving for safety reasons. It really annoys me to see these cars on the road.
