  1. Jermey, agree that electricity comes from a mixture of sources. However as we reach maximum capacity (which we are heading towards 2017/18/19), the marginal MW comes from the most expensive (which also happen to be the most polluting) production sources - oil/fuel oil/distillate, and indeed semi-closed coal capacity (closed as too polluting) which then manage to acquire short term opening exemptions to avoid brown-outs...my argument really is that increasing the amount of electric cars in the coming years will likely cause the electricity they require to be generated from the same polluting fuels they are meant to replace. They are effective however at removing the pollution from a city centre, but not reducing overall pollution.
  2. Reasonable comment that electric cars are the future so no avoiding them. I do have a particular gripe with them though - they are pollution movers not reducers. At the extreme, if we take that the energy is produced by coal powered stations that pollution is effectively removed from the city centre to a non city location, which is the intention, but I don't believe they should attract any form of subsidy. The UK is also forecast to have a power deficit in the coming years, which will likely force large industry to self supply through oil/gas/distillate powered generation which is at least as bad a cause of pollution as the diesel cars they are replacing.
  3. An article in the Times this morning gives some more detail: 2017 will see a ?10 charge for pre 2005 vehicles entering the existing congestion zone, 2019 will extend to all pre 2015 diesels in the ULEZ and will be 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and in 2020 that zone will be extended to the North and South circulars. Local taxis and Ubers will be exempt. I agree with the need for more control on polluting vehicles in theory, and think a line needs to be drawn somewhere regarding age of vehicles (pre 2005 seems about right to me), but pre 2015 seems far far too new to me (only 4 years old in 2019 - I've never ever been able to afford a 4 year old car!), and I disagree with the extension of the zone so quickly. I COMPLETELY DISAGREE on exempting taxi's and Ubers.
  4. Can you not just buy a new door, have it installed, and tell no-one?

    Roof bars

Exodus, yes that it. ta. I needed new wider bars for a newer car, but was able to use the same Thule feet and bike rack. The bars were about ?30 cheaper than the new Thule equivalent.

The "other" brand at Halfords (can't remember what it is) are Thule's older aero design, now made for Halfords. A bit cheaper and very good, although missing the key locks.
  7. I had regular sky broadband until recently (non-fibre). It was great, reasonably fast and in 4 years I don't remember a problem. Only reason I switched was that the price ratcheted up each year and discounts for existing members were poor...time for a change!
  8. Bloody annoying that it remains closed from a motorists point of view - I don't use it, but quite a number of cars that can't use it make sudden u-turns to get back into Grove Lane which I think is very dangerous (and are mostly illegal).
  9. I second the above post
  10. Thats a huge pity mrsilencio, sorry to hear. I guess you probably have, but worthwhile looking around at other quotes - I find a massive difference between insurers for moto policies.
  11. I have been in previous years - I think it is great to have the motorsport there, but personally think ?15 is far too expensive. Would be better off making it, say, ?5 and having a bigger crowd. ?30 for two adults I ain't going to pay...
  12. Im on Underhill - recently vhanged from sky briadband to EE fibre. The change was a bit long winded but no compaints with the service now its up and running.
  13. Very sorry to hear about the theft and then the damage. To re-iterate what you've written above, NEVER leave a top box on a bike overnight. Thieves assume there is a helmet/other goodies inside and will smash it open, ruining locks etc. Take the top box inside and put a cover over the bike. I take my top-box off everytime I park at home, day or night.
  14. DaveR, agree in theory but add to this you'll have servicing costs each year if you own. For lease cars do you still pay servicing (in which case its null for comparison)?
  15. Was plane after plane after plane when I was in Dulwich park yesterday evening...at least every 2 mins...loud...
  16. I think it would be a great idea. Yes herne hill is not too far away but it is very busy when its decent weather. The 25m indoor pools are no competition for an outdoor Lido. Would be a great asset to the area, and I believe it would be well utilised.
  17. Saffron, yes have been to Frensham Great Pond. It's quite a nice space - but gets extremely busy on a nice day, and i mean EXTREMELY busy. Ok to park if you get there early. The "pond" itself is fairly sedamenty/brown/shallow/muddy for swimming...shared with the sailing centre so marked swimming areas only.
  18. Most leases actually say no bare wooden flooring...get a custom made carpet over it and voila!
  19. Yes
  20. We've sold at Battersea Boot a couple times - very busy and seems decent value, had good sales both times.
  21. I had very similar with ruptured discs. I couldn't get an NHS referral to see a consultant or have an MRI scan as the local GP kept deferring me with pain medication - they seem very reluctant to schedule an MRI scan and was told the NHS waiting list was 6-12 months (may or may not have been true I don't know). I had BUPA with work - called them and straight to Lewisham to see consultant and have MRI, within the week if I remember correctly. Saved me months of pain.
  22. Fair enough.
  23. Thanks help-me-boab, yes had seen similar so had thought it was ok: https://www.london.gov.uk/decisions/md1602-crystal-palace-national-sports-centre-contract-extension However this rumour has originated last night - apparently the hockey club that trains there was told last night it would lose the facilites asap. They were unsure though if it's only the external facilities or the entire centre.
  24. Out of interest, does anyone else on this forum utilise the amazing facilities at the centre? It's the second time I've asked a question about the sports centre, with many views but zero responses. If you haven't been there, please do, there is no comparable facility in SE London. I for one don't want it to disappear.
  25. Am hearing a rumour that the centre is closing immediately for the foreseeable future following continued disagreement over the site. Anyone know if this is true?
