Moving to East Dulwich - advice

If its Primary schools that are the deciding factor in the move I would consider Forest Hill around the London Road/Horniman museum area. You have Elliotbank, Horniman and another that I can't remember the name of! Theres a Sainsburys, Easy walk to the Overground with frequent trains, and its walking distance or Bus ride to LL shops. plus there are several nice independent cafes and shops,Libary,Swimming pool and gym, butcher etc ,Horniman Gardens and museum to keep a toddler occupied and prices are about 30% less than ED -
Peckham Pulse or East Dulwich Leisure centre?

I would recommend ED leisure centre I've been to Peckham Pulse too but only used the pool-I found it clean and well staffed. Having never used the gym at PP I can't comment on that. I have multi gym membership because I work in W1 and EA have the franchise for gyms in Westminster so its well worth the extra money. I do use a Personal trainer at ED Tracy who works for Everyone Active and is not an independent she's brilliant (I have never used a PT before and because I found the classes she took at the leisure centre so good I took the plunge and do 30 min sessions with her-they give you the option of 30 or 60 mins PT sessions) -
Brick House Bread announced they aren't reopening

This is Rubbish news! Its sent me and me and my other half into a downer! It used to be our regular Saturday morning treat to go and get the chocolate Sourdough loaf. And I personally always enjoyed a toast and coffee or lunch there on my days off. The area is losing its magic I dread the thought of a chain place taking that beautiful space over and more importantly I am gutted for the staff who find themselves without jobs with the high street and catering businesses in decline nationwide. I wish the owners and staff good luck and good news in 2020. And I hope the place reopens in Forest Hill or perhaps somewhere else in Peckham It wasn't the cheapest place but good food and fresh ingredients cost good money and for us it was a once weekly treat. -

I tend to agree with the above. Unless you have lots of friends in the area I'd probably move further out To Bromley or somewhere like that and get more for my money. As regards Moving to Kensal Rise I lived in Kensal green for many years and ED is definitely way nicer the busses are better in Kensal rise but trains are better in ED and I think quality of life and neighbourhood too (I still visit KR regularly due to friends living in Queens Park and KR). Walthamstow I can't comment on I'm afraid. -

I didn't vote for Corbyn but I voted Labour as an anti Boris vote (previous election I had migrated to libdem because I didn't agree with Corbyn but decided this time to go back to Labour) I wept this morning when I heard the results. I can only pray that Labour find another electable leader and until then I can only hope that the future under the lying buffoon isn't as terrible as I fear it may be.

If it makes you feel any better when I lived in 'Posh' Chelsea in the 80's and 90's I had a really heavy stone owl stolen from my Windowsill (Raised ground floor so not that easy to get to either!) and window boxes with plants stolen another time, and once a big stone pot stolen from the front of the house ( they left the tree!) In those days I reported it to the police who reckoned it was drunk people doing it for a laugh after a night out (I lived just off Fulham road near lots of bars and pubs). It happens everywhere and has always happened and is dammed annoying! -
ED - ?100 for a kids birthday cake? REALLY?
NewWave replied to Angelina's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
My advice would be to buy a basic supermarket cake or readymade from a bhigh st baker and go to the shop at the end of lordship lane near the old beer distillery place that sells cake decorating stuff then I'd get my kids involved in decorating the cake , you can get incredible decorations and glitter sprinkles etc and kids love doing stuff like that. It'd come out at less than ?50. -

I haven't used a black cab since at gone midnight stood in pouring rain in Islington 3 black cabs with their lights on stopped and refused to take me because I was going to SE london. as a middle aged lone female I felt pretty vulnerable too. I always use Uber now I've used them in france and the US too. the drivers are always polite and intelligent and I feel safe and more importantly I don't feel I'm being charged a fortune to go door to door.

For the first time ever I'm tempted not to vote in this election. I am usually a Labour supporter but can't abide Corbyn and consider him un electable. Boris is a boor and His chosen gang of ministers are as vile and dishonest as he is. Lib-dem I've voted for them since Corbyn became Labour leader but this time I'm giving them a miss because I've no idea of their manifesto and don't feel they deserve my vote.

> > > I still get nervous at the name DC10 - and that > was way way back. Back in the 90's I had to travel to and from New York pretty regularly for work, and my client always booked me on American Airlines which then used all DC10's on that route. I remember 1st time I sat on the place and saw the safety card in the seat pocket in front I went 'oh heck!' especially as I think a fair few european airlines had stopped using it. Over time though I grew to like the DC10, it was small and quick to board and disembark also I seem to remember it actually was marginally quicker taking a slightly different route to other planes (the steward once explained to me something about FAA law at that time decreeing that DC10's flew closer to land on transatlantic flights-something to do with fuel reserves if my memory serves... In fact when once no seats were available on an AA flight and I got put put on another carrier using a jumbo I actually missed the intimacy of the compact (by comparison) DC10 and being able to see land for a fair bit of the journey.

I agree. We didn't bother going at all this weekend as most everything we saw in a 3 mile radius last year was glorified glass box extensions on older houses and pretty boring, we did see a few more interesting ones but the queues were somewhat prohibitive to the enjoyment of the visit. We have decided that in future we will go further afield and look at more behind the scenes in historic or office type buildings.and give private houses a miss We've been attending Open house weekends for about 16 years but this year is the 1st year we missed because we felt its become oversubscribed and also a bit too smug homeowner showing off their extensions rather than amazing interesting architecture and design. If I want a glass box on the back of my house (I don't)I can see lots of examples looking in estate agents windows I don't need to queue an hour to see one

Walking by today I noticed that there was scaffolding outside what appeared to be building work going on within. As I rarely walk down this end of the road I was unaware the pub had closed-We used to like this place a lot but haven't been for a couple of years mainly due to it being really noisy (dj) and packed last couple of times we went wanting a nice quiet drink. Has it closed down? what is taking its place? or is it just a renovation? Its one of the few pubs with a lovely traditional interior in the area-the other being the dog but we stopped going there too due the appalling service the half dozen times we went post refurb.

Muggings and stabbings are sadly a London-wide problem and happen in every postcode.

I tend to agree..I would love to have remained in Notting hill where my mum grew up and I was born-I still have friends there and even after living in SE for 9 years going to W10 feels like 'home' and holds so many memories. But sadly when my parents died I decided to move for purely financial reasons. I was in a tiny flat and couldn't afford anything bigger there because the area is so 'sought after' I won't say gentified because I grew up on a council estate and there are still some pretty rough estates round there but a 1 bed ex council flat sells for about 450k! my next move will need to be away from london completely-

And why bother shopping anywhere when the chains offer it all online. ditto chain resturants. just mediocre offerings for those too lazy to cook
