Horniman farmer's market - get your act together please Horniman management

We still go to the Horniman farmers market and buy our weekly salad stock there, and veg-in fact we rely on it, however I would agree that there seem to be less and less stalls, especiallly as now its the summer I thought it would have picked up. There seem to be too many stalls selling cupcakes and nonsense rather than a good selection of fresh produce. I personally DONT think the salads and veg are hideously over-priced my other half and I are a civil servant and shop assistant so certainly NOT on large salarys, and I find the cheese stall lady is wonderful at selling small less expensive portions. In fact its only the scotch egg stall that I find a bit of a rip-off to be honest. We checked out the new dulwich village farmers market and by comparison that WAS very expensive...serves us right I suppose! -

I agree that Fusion are pretty rubbish at running pools and Leisure centres. I am an adult but have only just learned to swim (aged 55) and am very nervous when out of my depth and when theres kids jumping in the water in a boystrous manner (I mean teenagers-not little ones) I used to go to Forest Hill pool but gave up because there were always teens leaping into the water and ducking and pushing each other in and it made me nervous swimming by them-I'm not a good enough swimmer to go in the Fast lane so need to use the general swim lane. There used to be one superb lifeguard who would walk round the pool, tell kids off if they were behaving badly and generally keep an eye on things. He's now left and in his place are bored teenagers who don't seem to watch whats going on and seem more intent on having a laugh with each other than monitoring the safety of the pool users. I now no longer go there.

Ha! If you think this is bad go to Forest Hill pools run by Fusion....so badly run and maintained (pee in changing rooms, nappies etc) that I pay ?8.40 as a non member non resident to use your pool instead. : )

I'm sorry I think you are really pathetic if all you care about is an M&S Food or Waitrose opening instead of an iceland thus impacting positively on your property value when there are innocent people dying all over the world because of mindless violence and terrorism..Why don't you p*** off back on holiday to one of the many war zones and get a life.

Voting - Low Turnout in SE22 apparently

We also get the chance to air our opinions in elections; locally, UK Parliament and EU Parliament. There is a very good reason we don't get to vote about hanging. Think about your human rights. Then carry on from there. -
Dulwich & W Norwood MP's response to referendum result
NewWave replied to worldwiser's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I was effectively writing an open letter and replying to a forum post. What is the correct form for replying to a post that is only a quote? I have seen the rough figures for voting. I will run through my argument again. We vote for Helen, the area votes remain and we want her to carry this on. When the majority of people who either she represents or vote for in the borough agree with something she has stood for I struggle to see why she has to change her voting preference. I understand there will be people who have different preferences but at some stage a local MP should represent local views. I imagine if MPs gave up after every "vote against" if it is something that has local support and they believed in? Now that wouldn't be very good would it? What we have ended up with is the minority dictating to the majority in Dulwich and West Norwood. Are the Brexit views being taken into account? Yes. We are leaving unless something else happens to stop it. Surely that is enough representation or is there another level we need to go to? Read the last quoted post from Helen and you will see she is happy to do along with what the local people want when it suits....... "I have closely read and re-read the views of every person who has contacted me about the Labour Party leadership. After careful consideration I decided that I would serve the Labour Party locally and nationally best by taking steps to ask the membership of our party to reconsider who should lead our Party into what seems likely to be an imminent General Election. With a heavy heart I voted in favour of the no confidence motion this afternoon. " -

You have a chance to show you listen to the people who got off their keyboards and voted for you, to listen to those who did the same last week to vote remain. You represent us. You are in the position to make these difficult decisions and to have a voice because we don't. There were quite a lot of Labour voters oop north who voted out and it is turning the party inside out. Your own constituents agree with you and we still get no support from you. what will that do to the party down here? Do I have to explain the word "opposition" to you? If at first you don't succeed, give up? If you actually believe in staying in you need to continue the battle. And yes I am telling you what to do. I am sure this message will be ignored as the last one has been......... -
I'm a member of se23.com as thats where I live. But agree...its a very dull forum and so I tend to look and post on here more.

I live high on a hill in Forest hill and saw arguably the most epic fireworks I've ever seen in London out of my bedroom window at this time. It seemed to be around Honor Oak Park. Much nearer than Greenwich.

Sweaty Betty - the final nail in the gentrification coffin?

Just my luck. I'M sorry but speaking as someone who spent time in the late '70's and 80's in New york, It IS DEAD. Ok, street crime is down, once no-go areas like Alphabet City ( I had a friend lived on Avenue A in the 80's when visiting you'd stay over rather than risk the junkies on the doorstep and the shootings at night) are now gentrified full of hip bars and resturants. But Gone are the interesting places CBGBS, Mars Bar, Yaffa Cafe, Chelsea Hotel is being turned into an overpriced soulless 'boutique hotel'. Gone are the quirky independent stores in the East Village, Ditto SoHO..now home to the likes of TopShop and H&M I could go on and on. Berlin is now going the same way. The very people and shops that made an area interesting and dare I say it 'Cool" are being priced out And in their place come psudo hipster bare brick oh so ironic 'we only play vinyl' hangouts. I'm a city girl, always have been-I love the diversity, the edge the creative buzz of cities. But soon I fear everywhere will be the same. -

Iwas born in Ladbroke grove in the 60's and lived in the area until 5 years ago when finances caused me to move here. Portobello road used to be brilliant, full of independent shops, local characters, dreamers artists, hustlers. It was my 'hood and I loved its run-down but optimistic energy. but slowly things changed-a row of antique arcades became All Saints, the Butchers left and was replaced by a gift shop And now?....Now I can't stand the place its like Carnaby St or Camden, loads of shops selling tourist tat and cheap shoes, 'Jack Wills' 'Lush Cosmetics' There is nothing there that holds any magic. The cool Pubs have gone, the characters are dying off or having to move out. My mother was born on Westbourne Park Road in the 1930s when it was terribly poor and run down. But at least it had a community and soul. Now there is neither. Its another sign of the homogonisation of our city. London is dead..its time we realised that. -
Sweaty Betty - the final nail in the gentrification coffin?
NewWave replied to Louisa's topic in The Lounge
Back to the original theme of the thread I think Sweaty Betty is a complete waste of time. if I want work out gear I go to Decathlon In Surrey Quays/Canada water. Great choice and really good value for pretty decent quality stuff. I think its pointless spending a bomb on things you will sweat in and that need constant washing. -
I heard that Siouxsie Sioux has moved to Dulwich...As a saddo fangirl I live in hope of spotting her!

There are quite strong sentences for those involved with knife crime. But do you think the local bobby would be posting here if there was enough police to do the job? The government cuts are taking effect. Also we are reminded of the sad and continuing local violence.

I have lived here 6 years and never ever felt any desire to venture in. In fact it must be the only cafe on LL that I haven't been in It looked a bit dingy and grubby TBH

Fusion leisure centres contract not renewed by Southwark
NewWave replied to JohnL's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
They must be better than Fusion...I'm appalled at how they can let brand new buildings and resources paid for by our council tax deterioate so badly due to mis-management. It saddens me. -
Is it possible to extend the leaflets and leave them on the board at sainsburys Forest Hill and the local pools?

Fusion leisure centres contract not renewed by Southwark
NewWave replied to JohnL's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
As someone who is considering getting a membership at ED pools does anyone have any idea how this would impact? I live in Forest Hill where the pool is also run by fusion (as are all Lewisham pools) but the pool is so filthy and centre generally so dirty and badly run I've started to attend the East Dulwich pools-which believe me-are like a Luxury health club by comparison (picture used nappies and urine in changing cubicle, and toilets poolside so filthy that you retch as you use them-a Favela smells better..I kid you not!..and in fact they are so smelly that the stink reaches the pool) Part of my reasoning in joining is also that at least then I could try other fusion gyms and pools for free as at present I spend ?8.50 every visit to ED and I've been aiming for twice a week minimum. Would the new contract therefore mean that I would be limited to using pools in Southwark? Any idea? And finally-if you think this centre is bad go to Forest Hill and you'll realise what bad really looks and smells like! -
Roullier White, brilliant staff knowledgable and friendly...get all my perfumes from there. Lilas for well priced beautiful jewellery and again fantastic friendly and knowledgable staff. In fact my other half buys all my gifts from those two shops. Also Moxons superb fish, lovely friendly helpful staff.

Mr Barber, I would hardly call my post 'bullying' thaking the p**s perhaps? But bullying? No. -
DHFC noise disturbance, evening match
NewWave replied to beagle1's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I'm sorry but does Barbers post insinuate that anything which may create noise and stop a child getting 12 hours sleep must be curtailed? A curfew on cars driving down any streets that may have children living in the houses, no aeroplanes after 6.30pm no sirens, no doorbells on multiple occupancy homes, etc etc etc... This is a city, noise happens its part of living... We are NOT talking about outdoor rave parties that carry on till the early hours 5 nights a week. We are talking about occasional background noise coming from a much loved Local football club. Its pathetic...Like people moving next to infants schools and then complaining about the sound of children playing. Let the little darlings sleep in earmuffs on match nights. I grew up near Marble Arch, ambulances would go by the house en-route to St Marys hospital,We'd hear the sound of the outdoor Hyde Park concerts, but y'know what? If my sleep was disturbed by this as a nipper I'm sure I drifted back to sleep soon enough, and I went on to achieve a degree so I'm sure it didn't do me too much harm.
