Forest Hill over Brockley any time, Ok Brockley is in Zone 2 but it just doesn't have the nice feel I get in SE23. We live on the Horniman side and trains from Forest Hill station are very good, with Overground or less frequent London bridge trains. It takes me about 35mins to get to Bond St in rush hour.

If Peckham was likened to anything it would definitely be more Shorditch than Brixton. Shorditch became 'cool' because of its popularity with artists and creatives and start-up buisinesses. Brixton has never had that art scene going on, more of a foodie bar scene.

Is anyone out there doing the Macmillan coffee morning fundraising event? This would be a great venue. -
Looking at the photos of the house picture 6 seems to me to be the one with the real damp problem, Which makes me wonder, is that room part of a flat roof extension or similar? I brought a house in North Kensington that looked similarly awful, a survey revealed the damp was caused by a flat roof on a landing bedroom which needed re-doing, that, replacing the lead flashing (or whatever its called)and re-pointing a few bricks was surprisingly inexpensive. Granted I then had to have the ceiling and wall replastered but it really wasn't a hideous outlay.

Laptop squatters - the new Japanese knotweed?
NewWave replied to Chief's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Agree with the latter post and the OP. I went to Brickhouse for lunch yesterday-brought a loaf of bread and ordered a salad and a coffee to have in-a total outlay of over a tenner-it was hard to find anywhere to sit-one long table was full of mums and buggies, the other laptop squatters, the smaller tables also had people on laptops-I shared one of these tables. The person sharing it with me had an empty cup when I arrived, and was still there when I left, ditto all the folks at the long shared tables, I recall seeing only one of these people eating a sandwhich. Cafes should put a minimum spend/maximum stay limit up for busy times, I think thats fair. -
Roadworks in Lordship Lane at end of North Cross Road
NewWave replied to Sue's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Are the pavements being widened for all the baby buggies? If they are trying to change our car usage by removing parking spaces; give me a break please? I commute all week and it is a luxury to jump in the car and "do the rounds" on a Saturday. No, I don't mean one end of LL to another but into Crystal Palace, LL etc. Finally, the work is taking an age!! -

Pizza flyers always make it through my letterbox....... -
I had a friend who lived in South Norwood and had a number of issues with Crime. I'd recommend Forest Hill, Sydenham or Penge. But we live in Forest Hill and love it, you can walk to ED and Dulwich Village, theres Sydenham Woods, Horniman Gardens, the Farmers Market on saturdays, good coffee shops and lovely neighbours.

In My Previous area the council cut down a sick tree with the result that the house next to mine-The house at the end of the terrace which the tree was outside started to 'fall away' from the terrace-a large structural crack appeared between my house and my neighbours, When I knocked on their door to see if they were aware of this and they invited me in and pointed out horrific internal cracks all around the walls and ceiling. Turns out it was the removal of the tree that did it. The council acknowledged their liability and put things right for them. As I was in the process of selling my house I had to have a structual engineers report before the buyers of my property would proceed, Boy was I ever relieved to find out my house had escaped any damage and was structurally sound. However I'm always wary of people cutting down trees, and besides Its the trees that make this a lovely place to live. -
I used to live above a shop in Notting-Hill and it was brilliant, The shop below me closed at 6pm and didn't open Sundays, but next door was a late night convenience store and newsagent who were superb, They took in Parcels, kept an eye out for me (I lived alone at the time), and because both shops had cctv outside I always felt very safe. The only negative was papers being delivered around 6am so I'd hear that, But what was also great was that if I fancied a glass of wine or ran out of teabags I only had to nip downstairs. Plus I loved knowing that although I lived in a first floor flat I could dance up and down the living-room (which was much larger and with higher ceilings than I'd find in a non-commercial building) and not disturb downstairs neighbours. In fact I loved that flat.

The NHS saved my life, and Prolonged my mothers who survived 7years after her diagnosis thanks to blood transfusions,Plasma exchange, and Chemo. Yes-along with many other people I get angsty when I find it hard to get a GP appointment or wait months for a physiotherapy referral but when you really really need them the NHS is incredible-we are so lucky to live in a country where such a health service exists. And Mark88 stay strong and god bless.

Either way it is somebody's home, And surely the main concern should not be about 'prime retail space' or 'eyesores' but the safety and wellbeing of the person who lives above a fire damaged and rundown property

Root is just an idiot clearly. And someone who is also obviously very bitter about something.

Yes I've noticed that...Made me want to vomit...a woman put her kids name down at 3 months for a nursery and was afraid another mother more organised would beat her to it and therefore her kids would have a better start in life...Phleeze. I know plenty of folk who went to avarage state schools and because of their sheer determination not due to their pushy over ambitious parents ended up with MA's PHD's etc and wonderful careers and lives. I went to a supposedly superb school and half the girls ended up smack heads or groupies.

Ms Blueberry Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It's a derelict site which negatively effects > everything around it and it's not the right thing > to let a property go to rack and ruin. Perhaps she can't afford to smarten it up-Is it actually causing you any harm looking like that? I think not-there are disused shopfronts like that on most London Local high streets. I'm fuming that you (who probably wouldn't have pissed on this entire area if it was on fire before the gentrification started) have the audacity to fume on about a shabby shop front when all around families and pensioners are resorting to food banks. I'd rather the shop looked like that than got turned into a smug nappy valley vendor selling S**t that no one really wants " oh look! a mug with Peckham on it! a tea cosy covered in Owls! How lovely" ugh! Rant over.

Have it at home? In the garden? or a kindly nearby neighbour or friend.
