  1. If police were there It could well have been that they were selling counterfeit goods and that was why they were being loaded into a van. I've never been in there so I'm just guessing. Its always sad though to lose a local business however in this case I honestly can't say I ever felt inclined to walk down the road and pop in.

Going back on topic I would agree that there seems to be a whole flotilla of people who seem to have been negative about The Patch since even before it opened. And echoing the comment of another poster aside from the ?16 breakfast The rest of the prices on the menu are no more than Franklins which is also a favourite of ours. I really want this place to succeed, mainly because its great to have a local restaurant option which isn't just another Indian restaurant or chain eatery. I think locals should be chuffed that new businesses chose to invest in our area rather than the likes of Clapham or Tooting.Rather than just morning the loss of another mediocre drinking place.

Not being a beer drinker I can't comment on the cost of a pint however I DO agree that ?16 for breakfast is extortionate. I must confess I initially thought of it as a restaurant but having actually visited the place the layout and feel is more like a pub with a restaurant at the back. I would add that although the food is superb I also felt that the place lacked an identity in terms of interior design. which also added to the feel of it being a pub with food attached.

I just feel the need to comment that anyone quoting The Patch as having 'top restaurant prices' has obviously never been in a Top restaurant or even a fairly average West End restaurant for that matter. Go and have lunch for Two at Liberty Department store in the west end for instance-with mediocre food and characterless waiting staff and it will actually cost more for two courses and wine per person that Lunch at The Patch. I know this as I have done both in the past Few weeks. I find it tedious when people bleat on about prices-you can either afford to eat somewhere or not. And make your dining choices accordingly. I am a normal working woman who eats out on special occasions and I appreciate that a decent meal will certainly involve expenditure outside my usual budget.

Here I should add that The bathroom was on the upper level with a sheer drop below the window. I probably didn't make it clear in my initial post. Other things that occurred in the chateau included seeing human like shapes appear in rooms and corners but fuzzy and shadowy as if made out of dust or smoke, and then they'd disappear.
  6. I've experienced paranormal activity many times, Once when I was staying in a chateau in the middle of france, and that was full on weird stuff, such as the name Theirry appearing from nowhere on a steamed up window, etc etc, Also in my old Flat in west london. when you genuinely experience such things you feel a weird acceptance and it doesn't feel scary as one would imagine. I know such things exist only because I have seen and felt them myself.
  7. I used to go to the Spiritualist church in Notting Hill. Does anyone know of any spiritualist churches in South London that are nearer than Eltham???
  8. Its a mix of donated goods (which are usually marked on the price-tag 'local donation') and new designer donated items. At least that is the case in the Notting Hill branch and seems to be the same here from what I could see. As regards affordability of charity shops, I often find items by high street names such as Next and H&M etc which would cost only a couple of pounds more if brought brand new or brought on reduction in their sale. For instance today I brought a t-shirt in H&M which was ?5.99 I saw similar in a charity shop-obviously worn for ?3.50 And in Primark you can get many garments way below ?10.

Not sure who is there now > though. I remember Anna in Roullier White-she was incredible! Since she's gone the service levels have gone down. And my other half no longer wants to go in there where as before, as previously mentioned by myself we would wander in and be so inspired we would always end up buying a scent-Now he in particular feels its not a pleasant shopping experience because the assistants are very pushy and don't inspire a purchase. RE; ED Deli-I find the staff quite lazy and rude-they seemed happy to ignore me as I stood waiting even though there were three of them behind the counter and only one person being served. I don't bother going in there now. On a plus I LOVE shopping in Moxons-the staff are knowledgable and friendly its a real joy in fact-I always leave smiling.

Our Sunday lunch was very fairly priced-same as I'd expect in any decent gastropub/resturant. However I would agree ?16 for a full english breakfast seems a little exorbitant. I think about ?10 would be nearer the mark.

Ate there yesterday for lunch. Very impressed food thoughtfully presented, Lovely friendly and upbeat service. and fairly priced with good wines by the glass. We will return!
  12. Wow! now I know I think I'll get one-I bet they're better than overpriced neals yard offerings
  13. I believe its permanent. As to it opening today? unsure. What I especially like about this shop is that due to Marys fashion connections you have new donations from designers at a fraction of the price. For instance yesterday I saw Karl Donaghue earmuffs in sheepskin which are ?150 in Liberty for ?30!
  14. Breast Cancer-Its one of the most common cancers and affects both men and women of all ages.
  15. Things to wrap your dreadlocks in when going to bed???
  16. Went to shop today, lovely atmosphere, Friendly staff, and some nice stuff. A welcome addition to the neighbourhood.
  17. Sue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > If you can't stand the heat, keep out of the > kitchen :)) Sorry Sue, but that sounds really bitchy. As I see it a local forum should be a friendly place where people can voice their opinions, have a healthy debate, agree disagree whatever-I feel I have as much right to be here as everyone else even if sometimes I do find it a bit Daily mail/MumsNet-ish. Others may consider it too full of Guardian readers. We are all different, we all have opinions thats the Joy of it!
  18. I would go to London Bridge from Forest Hill then change to Northern line

  20. Frankly I would rather move to a 'rough round the edges' area and watch it gentrify than move into an already gentrified overpriced area. As an example until two years ago I had lived my entire life in Notting Hill and North Kensington. In the late 70's and through the 80's It was considered a very sketchy area (I'm not talking about Holland park, that was always 'posh" But around Posrtobello Road, All Saints Road) and many people really weren't happy to come and visit me cos of all the drug dealers and muggings. By the mid 90's the area had begun its transformation and those people who were anti the area were now desperate to move there. The area I lived in is now unrecognisable and also incredibly bland. I don't care if people say the area was rough in the 80's so what.. I don't take it as an assumption that I am tarred with the same brush as the drug dealers crack heads or muggers just because I lived there then. I feel people are being incredibly precious and as I stated before who cares about others perceptions all that matters is that you like where you live...that is unless of course you are the kind of person who buys in an area cos its perceived as fashionable or upmarket, not because you actually LIKE it. Its like people who buy Designer handbags for the name only not because they actually like or suit them.
  21. There's a Mary Portas Living and Giving shop On Westbourne Grove in Notting Hill, sitting side by side with high end designer boutiques. The stock is fantastic and as well as having items donated by locals there are lots of new and sample items from various of Marys contacts in the Fashion industry. I often make a trip there to shop. Its unlike any existing Charity shop on Lordship lane and will be an asset to the area. Thank god it isn't another estate agent or Hairdressers.
  22. Yes...Point taken but the quote refers to EIGHT years ago....that is my point and I don't understand why people are so incensed when its clear the quote was pertaining to when the butchers moved into the area.
  23. Agree with the above post. And amazed that someone would be so small minded as to suggest petitioning against the opening of a new charity shop-The same poster probably wants a Jack Wills and a Starbucks opening on LL.
  24. The reason Give and Take is more expensive than other charity shops is because they are more selective with their donated stock. it hurts me when I see people being negative about this particular shop. I chose to donate my used designer clothes there as they are specifically aimed at donating to breast cancer charities. As someone who has been directly affected by the disease I really value any contribution to helping find a cure for a disease that effects so many women-and men.
  25. I'm sorry, but I honestly don't understand why everyone is so het up about a comment someone made regarding the area being a bit rough EIGHT years ago. So what? I hate to spoil everyones delusions but my impressions of the area around that time was that it was a bit sketchy in parts-I was living in West London then and had friends in ED...Funnily enough they sold up about two years ago and moved to Dalston...now that IS sketchy. Surely what matters is the here and now and wether you actually like the area and enjoy living here. NOT others perceptions.
