  1. Quids - irony doesn't seem to come over too well on the page and that's why me and buggie didn't get it. It just looked like what it was. The only person who seems to do it well on this forum is *Bob*. Anyway, nurses are great and do a very tough and demanding job. If you're ever seriously ill in hospital you'll soon find out how hard they work and the long hours that they do. I still don't think they get paid enough.
  2. Just looked it up and he was apparently her third son. (Her name is recorded as Frances Trollope on Wikipedia).
  3. No, it's just an unfortunate name. Fanny was quite a common name in those days though. Is she any relation to Anthony Trollope?

  5. I'd go along with that Matthew or how about The Prince by Niccol? Machiavelli.
  6. Oops cross-posted.
  7. I'd say The Palmerston would be classed as a gastro-pub Louisa and I'm pretty sure Sean would agree as it has it's own chef and is not a slave to the Pubcos.
  8. Yup! If you want to get into Dostoyevsky Crime And Punishment is a very good place to start.
  9. Football Focus I think Sean. Bloody good impression though Ted.

Not the ones I've been out with. ;-)
  11. Drink, drugs, lottery tickets and porn. The usual short-cuts for people in despair.
  12. Good grief! So do you knock one out while you're at work then? Start the day with wank so to speak.
  13. I concur with you there Sean. Perhaps we should call them foodie pubs or some such nonsense rather than gastro even though the food is generally microwaved crap more likely to cause gastroenteritis.
  14. Sounds like a salesman from another company and he's trying to sign you up. It's happened to me in the past and be careful because you could end up paying more in the long run.
  15. Bloody hell! The dart board's gone as well has it. So what is left of the little back room. Is the TV still in there?
  16. Actually for someone who loves a good moan I think AllforNun would be perfect casting.
  17. It's true. In fact I've seen him on loads of buses recently not just the 185. I think he's trying drum up some publicity for his new film Seven Pounds.
  18. The actor Will Smith this very morning on the 185 bus to Lewisham.
  19. Well said Piers. Spurs may well be doing very well in the Cups but it's the league that is our bread and butter. I still have faith in him and I'm sure we'll stay up but any more results like Sunday's capitulation in the last minute against Wigan and we'll be wanting Juande Ramos back before you can say "relegation". No, seriously even I wouldn't go that far.
  20. I thnk Harry got his tactics wrong yesterday and is now blaming it on the players. Jermaine Jenas had only been on the pitch for ten minutes and although his marking was poor and led to the winning goal can't be blamed for all of Spurs ills. Redknapp picked what I thought was a very negative side - three centre halves or four if you count Corluka and no flair in midfield. Just look at the bench, Huddlestone, Jenas, Lennon, Bentley and Bent (although he's about as much use as a one-legged man in an arse kicking competition). Lennon and Jenas and Huddlestone (when fit) have been three of our better this season when selected. Face it Harry you got it wrong.

Unfortunately I think you're spot on. I was appalled to hear about the latest refurb at the Woodhouse, which is a pub I've been going to on and off since I was a teenager. Several friends who have been in recently say it now looks like it's trying to be more of a restaurant than a pub and it WAS a great pub but that I guess is now quite a long time ago. Unfortunately Youngs pubs have always had crap food in them but the beer makes up for it. I'm dreading going in there to take a look for myself as I went there towards the end of the summer and it was bad enough then with the previous reverb but now it appears to have got even worse. Standards have also slipped dreadfully in the Dog and I'm hoping that it doesn't get any worse and it is another pub that I've grown up with and been a regular in for decades.
  22. Typical Tottenham, conceding a goal in the last minute. Not good enough, must try harder.
  23. I must say had to laugh at Defoe trying to get his ?200,000 loyalty bonus out of Portsmouth. Greedy little fecker he may be but he usually scores on his debut for any club he's played for so I'm hoping he sticks one in today (preferably the winner) and keeps his record.
