  1. Jays? Common as muck where I am. See 'em all the time.
  2. I like to watch both teams as they both enjoy playing football in the proper manner but I don't think I could take any more of Beckham's tears if they lose, so I'll be backing Real this time around and to be fair to Beckham he deserves it for the way he has come back into form this season.
  3. Speaking as a man who spent 23 years working on The Sporting Life I'd say that gambling is a mugs game and save you're money but if you do have a little disposable income and fancy a bit of a flutter then I'd follow Spadetownboy's excellent advice. Also, I'd get hold of a copy of the Racing Post today as they should have four day cards and the form in there for Monday's meetings and you can swot up on the form. Also get a copy on the day and enjoy yourselves. Best of luck.
  4. I wasn't born anywhere but built and assembled by IKEA. Does that make me Swedish? Seriously though. Born in Kings College Hospital, Camberwell. Mum and dad from Brixton and Upper Norwood. So, south London born and bred. English through and through.
  5. I wouldn't quite say that Sean, I've been a bit too pissed to post these last ten days or so. I really have been a terrible Lush recently. Out of the loop and out of my head. "They tried to make me go to rehab but I said no no no." Will try and make up it up to Hoopers though and if I do I shall make a point getting the beers in. Cheers!:)-D
  6. Hmm..this is all rather lovey dovey isn't it. I have a few favs on here but wouldn't want to offend anyone by naming names and missing others out so in true lovey fashion I'd just like to say I love you all. Very diplomatic methinks.
  7. Popped into my first forum drinks just for an hour last time round and met some lovely people, smiling friendly faces all round, you know who you are. I shall try and make time for the next one although there is a birthday in the family so can't say for sure. :)-D

    DVD Problem

You could mention it at the Forum drinks tonight. There's is already going to be a book swap, so why not. Good luck.
  9. That's got to be the quickest lounging ever. Never mind keep up the good work and have another pint while you're at it. This is a very important survey and I'm sure it will prove very popular among the pram-pushers first thing Monday morning. As it is, this being Poets Day (piss off early tomorrow's Saturday) they seem to have left their computers at home. Perhaps I could dream up a portable one attached to a buggaboo. We'll see.
  10. I take it you're doing this from the pub? Good work if you can get it.
  11. James, it's a shame but you're probably right, our Jamaican bredren don't much care for dem batty bwoys. Mind you, Noel Coward had a lovely big house there for years without any problems from the locals. I remember a rather funny quote of his: "I'm not a homosexual, just a slightly immoral sensualist." Err....Sorry, back on thread...umm....realistically........oh come on I can dream can't I?
  12. Ooh! You shocking man Batdog. You're jealous aren't you. Never mind, get yourself a nice bottle of Saint-Veran.
  13. Too true DM. That can be out motto. (One bottle at a time). Work is the curse of the drinking classes.
  14. Have just been out to purchase a copy of "How Very Interesting, Peter Cook's Universe And All That Surrounds It." Bloody long title I know but the late great Peter Cook is one of my heroes and this should keep me highly amused for the next week or so.
  15. Good point La Perkster, one bottle at a time eh, may do a red next weekend, does anyone else agree?
  16. Well done DM, you're feminine charm has already worked wonders and what an excellent choice to start with. I can thoroughly recommend the Saint-Veran myself having drunk oodles of it a few summers back. This is a very good start indeed. I shall be up that way sometime tomorrow and shall pop in and grab a bottle or two and I'll try and get in touch with Paul in Oddbins around the same time and perhaps have an arm wrestle with him over which red to choose for us.
  17. With you on that one Ant, robust reds in the winter, lighter burgundy when warmer. I was also of course forgetting that there are people on here with children so a virtual tasting is obviously more convenient for a lot of people on here but would also be just as much fun.
  18. Certainly DM, I shall try and get in touch with him over the weekend. I'm fully aquainted with the Threshers up your end and I honestly can say that they are quite a pleasant and helpful bunch in there so perhaps you could work your feminine charm on them and I'll work on the Village Oddbins and maybe Sean can do G & B. Is Sunday too soon, it might be for me as I have a party to go to Saturday night and may not be any fit state to partake but we'll see. Also, sorry if I sounded presumptious dear Peckham-Perkster but I was only going on the suggestions. I prefer red too and I know plenty of ladies who do too but in the summer when it's hot a nice dry chilled white or indeed a decent rose is right up my street. Cheers!:))
  19. You're right ratty, where did it all go wrong. Let's get it back on thread. Anyway, if money were no object: - House in Jamaica, Chateau in the south of France, flat in New York, town house on Cheyne Walk, Chelsea and a small country pile on the Kent/Sussex borders. I might need a few rollovers on the lottery for that little lot though. Oh! almost forgot, big old house in Dulwich so can have lots of parties for my local pals.
  20. A good idea Sean but I rather like DM's suggestion too. Also, Oddbins (the King of Off Licence's in my humble opinion) in the Village might be a good bet too. I know a chap who works there (fine bass player too by the way), perhaps I'll have a word in his shell like. Also, I'm no wine snob but it is worth paying that extra few bob for a decent bottle, although it is still possible to get a quaffable bottle for under a tenner. So a nice chilled Chablis for the ladies (DM's suggestion) and perhaps a decent Haut Medoc for the chaps. Perhaps we could discuss this tonight at the Forum jolly-up.
  21. Absolutely Brendan. They shouldn't call it anything else with all that history. Also, if they can get the Guinness as good as Mary's in the Castle it may give them some competition.
  22. Marvellous idea DM. Being an old wino I'm well up for this. Perhaps we could start with a case of '61 Margeaux or Chateau Petrus '45 along as someone else is paying. Delicious but incredibly expensive.
  23. I've been saying this for ages and well done Louisa for bringing this up again. I remember the Grove Tavern when it was a proper pub. It had a very good restaurant too. It was Pub of the Year in 1972 if memory serves me well and I'm told that no less than Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor used to eat in there from time to time back in the 60s. Also, what a great walk - have a few pints in there and then walk through the fabulous woods and end up at the Dulwich Wood House for a few pints more.
  24. Blimey, that's a long way to go for a haircut Ms LadyGooner. I've never been before but will try and get there after we've been outclassed by the Brazilians. BTW:- You're not going for one of those are you?
  25. Yeah! Phone up Le Chardon, see if they'll do a takeaway for six.
