  1. Yeah, used to see Bob in there quite a lot, he'd go to the Spanish too. Others would be The Comic Strip writers Peter Richardson and Pete Richens, (who an old friend of mine married) Robbie Coltrane, Jenny ?clair and a few others, musicians, writers, actors. Nurses too. I went out with half a dozen of 'em.. Most of whom lived on Camberwell Grove so it was a very convenient watering hole for them.
  2. I had my flat completely redecorated last year and paid the builders in cash. Most of their employees were very nice hard working Poles. On payday they got paid in cash. Sometimes it's just more convenient that way.
  3. The Grove Tavern was actually built on the site of Lord Byron's primary school. Hence you have Byron House on the estate around the corner.
  4. I remember it being full of art students and a smattering of local celebs in the mid 70s right up until the early 90s. Closing time we'd all nip down to "The Spanish" for after hours drinks and other substances. Loved it in those days.
  5. Quite possibly my worst prediction week ever. My current form reflects that of my team. Crap.
  6. It didn't burn down. It had a fire. It's still there. Harvester absolutely ruined it by ripping out all of its beautiful original features. It was a lovely pub once. Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor used to go there in the 60s when they had a place in Dulwich. I was a regular in the 70s and it had a splendid restaurant in there in those days. If it was run on similar lines to let's say The Great Exhibition or The Ivy House and with all that space in the garden I'm sure it could be a popular destination for drinkers and foodies alike once again.
  7. Sylvan Post on Dartmouth Road isn't a bad place to start but avoid the Bird In Hand across the road.
  8. Tuborg Gold was another from those days. I used drink in the Grove Tavern 70s and 80s too PD.
  9. Drinking in the Dog in the 70s it was all about the bottled white top Skol Special and Laughing Brew (Lowenbrau). http://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag237/jahlushhead/lowenbrau-445575_p_zpsdb285651.jpg
  10. Dulwich Hamlet Uber alles!
  11. Thanks Mac. Unfortunately, they'll never be another Bill Nick. ???? - We might be shit but we'll never be as shit as West Ham, despite how shit we were today. We're better shit than you'll ever be.
  12. Never mind. Found it. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/news-and-comment/football-revolution-as-disillusioned-fans-head-for-the-nonleague-9810932.html?origin=internalSearch
  13. Would have been nice if you'd provided a link.
  14. Ten years since Mr Tottenham passed away. Nice tribute from the Beeb. RIP Bill Nicholson.

As soon as I saw the line-up with two up front away from home I thought they'd have problems in midfield and that proved to be the case. Second half was a lot different when they brought Dzeko off. Terrific header by Sakho for the winner.
  16. Number five is the bread shop in Dulwich Village opposite Shepherds.
  17. He's definitely better up front.
  18. That goal!
  19. Fck me! Eric Lamela! 30 million quid. No right foot. Extraordinary goal.
  20. I only remember them being filled with cigarette butts when the rest of the booze had gone.
  21. You're too young to remember the devil's after jism piss of a Watneys Red Barrel Party Seven. Now that was the worst beer ever. Seven fooking pints of it.
  22. Most bars these days let you try before you buy. Quick way of sorting out the wheat from the chaff.
