  1. A few punters seem to read The God Delusion and become as rabid as the most extreme religious types. I went to a school run by catholic priests. It was alright. No apparent psychological damage.
  2. A dog control order won't make a bit of difference. The sort of dog owners who don't have any respect for public spaces also don't have any respect for the wardens that implement them.
  3. While obviously a very knowledgeable judge, I think a more informal approach would be more suited. I overheard one of the entrants telling the judge a lovely story about how her Staffie was rescued from a horrible previous life (used for breeding etc.). The judge seemed rather dismissive.
  4. By any regular person in the street's reckoning there were loads of dogs in the first event that were clearly not puppies. Also let's be honest, most dogs have long passed the 'cute' stage by 24 months. Personally I thought it would have been more 'FUN' if it hadn't been so uptight. It felt more like a wanna-be Crufts than a light hearted event for dogs and their owners. The MC was very good though.
  5. The dog show was a much more serious affair than the posters lead me to believe it would be. The 'CUTEST' puppy clearly wasn't the Tricolour Rough Collie. It was the small white fluffy thing which which didn't even make it into the last 8. The Collie might be closer to a Kennel Club breed standard but that wasn't what the competition was advertised as. Overall it seemed that there was a bias towards pedigree dogs as hardly any cross-breeds made it out of the first rounds. There's nothing wrong in this per-se as long as it's clearly communicated up front. So some suggestions for next year- 1. Use different judges for different categories. 2. Have a category for cross-breeds that might give the numerous ex-Battersea residents in attendance a chance at winning something.
  6. Headnizm has been there pre-94 I'm sure.
  7. Err.. that's because that side is wild....it's used for school projects I believe. There's nothing remotely wild about that section in the image above.
  8. Nunhead might be lacking in baby shops and places that sell over-priced coffee but it's a 10 minute walk from my door to the East London Line.
  9. Great event. I usually try and watch the hurling and camogie games in the morning.
  10. Been pretty busy since it opened and seems to attract a nice crowd. Great views from up there. http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a12/lspag1/FranksBar.jpg
  11. Ignore them. They've got zero meaningful powers and just go after easy targets. Keep chalking up the pavement until the police get involved (highly unlikely).
  12. Cue ED residents making gun signs and screaming for rewinds.
  13. It's not all that long ago that it was half that price.
  14. They open at 8AM each morning. I believe they have a breakfast menu also. Had two great pizzas from there last night. Will definitely be going back very soon.
  15. This is one of the reasons The Duke failed in it's previous incarnation imo. The surly kid with the tattoos put me off going there big time. The Gowlett and The Nun's Head seem to hang on to friendly staff who look like they really enjoy working there. The less friendly ones don't last.
  16. Lived off Bellenden Road for 4 years until late 2006. Nice local feel with some great shops but there were always quite a few wannabe gangsters hanging around the streets. In particular a couple of very nasty scraps between teenage gangs (yoots coming over from New Cross/Deptford to fight locals) really stick in my mind. The bloke who ran my local corner shop got shot in the leg and there were at least 2 other fatal stabbings just off my street, all in the space of about 18 months. Moved to Telegraph Hill and it feels a lot more chilled round these ends.
  17. The vibe in the Bishop is sometimes akin to a student union. The Topshop clad masses outside on the pavement don't do it's rep much good either.
  18. So according to those figures they had ?60K a year left after rent and rates to pay wages, stock, utilities, insurance etc. No wonder it's on the market.

I feel embarrassed for tans who feel the need to highjack someone else's national day. It'll be the 4th of July next.
  21. As said above East Dulwich is fairly shite for music but the surrounding areas are pretty good. There are decent acoustic nights at the Old Nunshead in Nunhead. Loads of random crazy acts at the Montague Arms near Queens Road-Peckham. Amersham Arms in New Cross (run by the people who operate Lock Taverns in Camden) have loads of greats acts on. New Cross Inn and Deptford Arms also have bands and DJs.
  22. A car was on fire at the corner of Peckham Rye and Barry Road (just beside The Clockhouse) on Friday night. Dunno if it was malicious.
