  2. hi there does anyone have any experience or recommendations with regard to counselling teenagers? many thanks
  3. We are in the throws of looking at sixth form options. These are what we have/are looking at Kingsdale Charter Forest Hill Federation Thomas Tallis Graveney where else (state) is there? Are there any stand alone 6th form colleges? I don't seem to find anything. Any insights and recommendations gratefully received.
  4. We have never had any bad experiences, and actually we really enjoy all the little ones (and not so litte) dressed up and having fun out in the dark. As a child we did nothing for halloween - bonfire night was the big one. It has always felt very sociable and rather nice - lots of children knocking on doors and people smiling and speaking to each other. The pumpkin (or other decoration) seems to work well as an indicator as to whether you are taking part or not. I am sure if I have little horrors throwing things at the door I would not feel so benevolent, but over the past ten years, it has been ok.
  5. They must have plans - otherwise their builder will not know what to build. I think it is suspicious that they are not showing you anything. When we had work done to our house we made a point of showing both sides exactly what we planned well in advance so that we could discuss any problems before they arose. Talk to Southwark planning asap and see what they say - they can also clarify what is and is not allowed within permitted development. good luck
  6. ours bring in live ones.... we have to chase around with tupperware and card to put back outside. Usually in the early hours. At least yours arn't moving
  7. I need some for a children's craft project - does anyone know of any where local that sells these? led tea lights? I know I saw some recently and am kicking myself thanks
  8. I think it would be best to move. Much nicer to get to know local kids and settle into the area properly.
  9. perhaps to do with the circus? on the field oppo harris boys school.
  10. I saw this yesterday afternoon. It looked like the road has been closed for 'playing out' whereby roads are closed for children to play safely. I thought it was for small side roads not major routes. It seemed pretty chaotic - to close a road at a major junction with traffic lights? It would have made more sense for dalkeith to have been closed for playing and keep the traffic off the side roads trying to find a way around the obstruction. I totally support the playing out idea, but this did not seem a very good implemention.
  11. There is a possibility that it was locked but they had a 'zapper'. A few months ago, four of my neighbours cars were done - with no sign of break in. I have since heard of several incidents very similar. thanks for the heads up
  12. I think this sounds extremely odd. I can only assume something dreadful happened in the past to cause this anxiety? IF this should ever happen, there is a) a good chance you would be not be carrying your weapon of choice at the necessary time and b) you end up harming small children or innocent bystanders whilst using said weapon. (just realised maybe you live next door to someone with a horrendous animal - which could be worrying - but otherwise I don't think there are many threatening dogs round here - I am a dog owner so might be considered biased!!)
  13. we have this in white and love it. really nice finish - a satin finish rather than hi sheen
  14. Hi all, here is the actual story about the fountain from southwark parks. All perfectly normal stuff and nothing to do with dogs. "There have been a series of issues with the fountain. At first there was just a crack in the bowl and works to repair this had been organised. We then found that the water that leaked out had caused a problem with the electrics in the pump. This has taken much longer to investigate, the non-standard nature of the parts created a delay in finding alternatives. I've recently heard back from our contractor and work should start on the pump next week, when it's done the rest of the water can be pumped out, the pond cleaned and the concrete repaired. We can then re-fill and turn the fountain back on" also, I think we all agree that peckham park has looked lovely (again) his year so it might be worth dropping them a line to say how much it is appreciated.
  15. what a shame - I really love listening to them on our evening walks. And to be honest, it is only loud right next to them (there are no amplifiers!) it's not like it's everyday!1
  16. hi all, the responsible dog owners group are trying to find out what is behind the dogs in parks survey. If you start at the beginning of the thread you should get an idea. Councillor Barber is also trying to find out what it is about. There are all sorts of possibilities as to what it might mean and what precipitated the consultation. Talk of 'incididents' but no specifics. There are concerns that all southwark parks are dog on lead only. I think they are trying to get some sort of dialogue going. I am a dog walker, whose dog loves a good old runabout and a meet and greet with other dogs, and is happy to pick up poo and respect the designated areas etc (that's me not the dog) I would add that I think most owners DO know the rules of th parks. There is always a few plonkers who insist on doing their own thing regardless.
  17. I would go for a sink. Really useful - I have a utility room without one and altho not essential, I would find it jolly useful. Also as a dog owner, I could dunk him in there rather than the kitchen one! also washing down welly boots, etc. not essential but pretty useful
  18. There aren't any signs for sexby gardens and wiring for a pond?? I think the cracked pipe sounds about right.
  19. Gosh chunksmum thats awful!! what time and whereabouts? description of dog? (sorry if I missed that) I walk everyday and have never seen anything like this (thank goodness) hope she makes a speedy recovery
  20. probably worth an email to the gardeners via the southwark website - this is the link for feedback/comments https://forms.southwark.gov.uk/DeptForms.asp?dept=25&section=Complaints+and+feedback I was thinking exactly the same thing myself. The gardens and borders have been lovely, and the sexby garden is a delight, but the poor old fountain is looking a bit sad.
  21. I am intrigued as to what these dog incidents are and look forward to seeing the data from Southwark. I am a dog walker, who walks twice a day in either dulwich park or peckham. I can honestly say I have never seen a nasty dog incident. Most dog walkers are awash with poo bags and ready to pick up - I have seen incidents where the owner was busy chatting and missed their dog however people will usually point that out to them. I do get annoyed when I see a pile that has not been picked up - very antisocial. Most park users are responsible, however I do find the piles of water bottles left by some of the footballers a bit annoying and the piles food packaging left by some of the picnic-ers also frustrating - but we would not dream of suggesting that these activities should be banned because of a few irresponsible people, or that groups of teenagers should be banned as some people find them intimidating (yes a bit far fetched I know).
  22. crikey!! that does seem alot! They are my regular vets and I have had nothing like that - just the usual check up fees and normal vaccination charges.
  23. david hayes the boxer in Rocca, dulwich village a couple of weeks ago
  24. I Understand that they are the consultants advising on the work to be done.
