RE: Tutor for Early Years Foundation Stage
tiddles replied to snsn's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My children are much older, however, I remember well my my failed attempts to get anything vaguely educational past my daughter!! We ended up sticking to lots of play, paint, creative stuff etc. We always had stories at bedtime, discussing the pictures and so on. Also she was very slow to start to read - she did not get going until year 2. However, she then raced ahead, and was known at school as the girl who was always reading. Her writing skills equally flourished. as DaveR says, they will get it when they are ready, and then they will take off. It is really hard when other children seem to be grasping stuff that yours isn;t, but stick with it and let them do it in their own time (with lots of encouragement and opportunity_ It is very hard not to compare, and I feel there is too much pressure on little ones, however I can say that with the benefit of hindsight. I think Pebbles raised a good point about competitive parents comparing our children and the 'race' for them to achieve perceived milestones. Let them enjoy school - especially primary. I think all our primary schools are so good that they are able to step in if they feel that a child is not achieving as they should further up the school. good luck -
please note, don't let that mould spray anywhere near anything chrome as it will remove it. otherwise, spray away...

Cyclists BEWARE - Sainsbury's Dulwich
tiddles replied to AndrewFFF's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
thank you andrew FFF for alerting us to this. I am a bike user, but have a very normal single lock which I use when popping in and out of shops. Agree with reddulwich, cameras would be good idea, and wouldn't it be nice if we got the impression that sainsbury's did actually care? -
Cyclists BEWARE - Sainsbury's Dulwich
tiddles replied to AndrewFFF's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I believe that sainsbury's have no interest in what happens outside their shop, even though that car park is for the sole use of people shopping there. I think it is fair that to expect there to be some sort of CCTV footage for the protection of customers. bottom line is, ??? Straferjack you say that shops on LL are not responsible for what happens outside, quite right, as this is a street, however the car park is perceived (perhaps wrongly) to be part and parcel of the sainsbury's superstore. -
no actually they don't deserve to lose their money. If someone is daft enough to part with money in trying to be helpful, then shame on the scammers. Yes of course one never should part with money after some cock and bull story, but there is the element of trying to be helpful and not having the chance to rationally think what is going on. It seems to me that for the most part, people try to be kind and helpful, and just because someone makes a daft mistake, being taken for a ride by some dodgy person is not ok to excuse or commend the behaviour of said 'scammer' How often have we read the thanks from people who's relative fell in the snow, was knocked off the bike/hit by a car etc and lots of people rushed to help offer help, a cup of tea, a place of refuge, not for a moment thinking that the 'victim' might actually be looking for a way to fleece these helpers? Yes I know there are dodgy types out there, but please let's not squash the natural instinct to help where we can.

also I think that sometimes one is caught on the hop, you don't really think something thro. Thanks for the warning

there was a bike looking like this on the corner of kelmore grove and oakhurst road. I noticed it on monday early afternoon, and thought it strange that it was leaning against a wall, unlocked. how awful for your brother = I do hope he finds it. usual thing about looking on gumtree?

Did the Kingsdale thread get taken down? Can't see it?
tiddles replied to Cora's topic in The Family Room Discussion
edited - wrong thread!! -
I think you would find it quite difficult to find anyone at the council to deal with this. You can call their call centre and they will log your details on 'the system' (which no one looks at) and then nothing will happen. I would crack on and make your changes - as long as it is nothing structural!!

not sure of guides, but there are cubs and scouts in the bellenden hut and both these are mixed with a good balance of boys and girls.

and I think a note to neighbours is polite. At least you know it's a one off, and the fact they have warned people beforehand suggests some consideration for others.

Laminated notices on lamp posts etc.
tiddles replied to Nigello's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
a card in the newsagents??? I think this is tongue in cheek. If I see an missing animal poster plastered to a lampost or fence, I make a point of going over and and having a good read. I think you will find that the posters are usually put around in the area where the animal lives. If they are not lucky enough to have a busy newsagents nearby, what are they supposed to do?? I have seen some missing people posters up too = do you take those down ?? -
Laminated notices on lamp posts etc.
tiddles replied to Nigello's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Agree with Sue re animal notices - please just leave them up!! somebody has taken the time to try and alert as many people as possible to their missing pet, and they do NOT return within your stipulated time. If you actually trawl thro the lost and found section, you will see that many animals take MUCH MUCH longer to be found (in sheds etc). I am really horrified by your behaviour. I understand wanting to minimise street litter, but you overstep the mark. -
Dog attack in Dulwich Park this afternoon
tiddles replied to BecsBex's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
puzzled, I think you could have been a bit more sympathetic (I maybe misreading the conversation). When people are clearly scared of my dog, I have always just said not to worry I will put on the lead and take away = as nimby points out, there may be very deep rooted reasons for this hysteria. you and I know that our dogs won't hurt, however the person concerned will not or cannot overcome this. I also think it a bit unfair for people not to enjoy our lovely parks because they live in fear of what they 'may' encounter. If they meet enough people with non aggressive animals this may begin to gradually live their lives a little easier. I too had one lady get very shrieky and panicky with me when I was walking my dog on the lead, so I just said I wouldn't come anywhere near her and we would go on ahead away from her - yes a bit irritating to be honest but no point in winding her up even further. -

well done fuzzy boots for giving this poor dog a kind and loving home, i wish her and your family all the very best - I bet you can't wait to get that muzzle off! I agree with lameduck and littlau - it is down to the owners. I have met several staffies or staffie cross dogs who are utterly delightful and are happy to put up with my dogs determination to have a good sniff. Similarly, I know that not everyone likes a dog, so I make sure he doesn't run up to children however he loves it when they come over and give him a stroke. There are some complete gits out there who give certain breeds a bad name (and also never walk the poor things) but we must try to not to generalise - yes easy to say if you have not had a bad experience with a particular type of dog I know. If someone seems to be aware of their dog and their potential behaviour then it makes all the difference! I think if we all respect the lead on/off areas that helps enormously. I would not walk my dog off the lead in the street as I know he would be off like a shot after whatever took his fancy!! -
hi there, ok I think santa is beginning to run out of ideas for what to put in a 11yr old boy's stocking? where could he visit locally for some good bits and pieces? younger ones are easy as there is lego and all the other little collectibles they like, but what is going to interest an older boy at budget prices?? thanks in advcance santa (ok actually one of his helpers)
-
there is nothing wrong with dogs off the lead, but everything wrong with not anticipating and 'owning' your dogs behaviour. sincere apologies from this dog owning middle aged lady for the distrss caused by that owner's ridiculous behaviour.

iphone? thought they all wanted blackberrys so they can 'BB' each other whatever that means

hi yes I am a subscriber and it says you can download to an ipod!! I need a nerdy teenager who knows how these things work. I have tried wading through the community forums which are useless (well for a middle aged technical dunce they are) thanks

Edited to say sorted = my ipod is too old fashioned! It needed to be one you can download the spotify app to. At least I can stop messing about with something that isn't going to work. Many thanks for all the advice people. sorry if wrong section. I have a spotify premium account, and am trying to copy a playlist to my ipod (which I should be able to do with the premium account) however when I try to copy the one playlist I want, it says I have to buy 70 tracks. Surely the whole point of spotify is that you don't have to buy all the tracks, as with itunes. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? many thanks
