tiddles replied to happyED's topic in The Family Room Discussion

Dulwich Park Fair - beer tent and otters

and the chap dressed up in the robin hood outfit? my son was just asking about him!! -
I thankfully no longer have to commute, but I used to, and found the peckham rye/london bridge trains services to be so frequent so as to make getting 'up to town' easy and convenient. This is still the case. Anything that lessens public transport (train) links to and from central london is not, IMO a good thing. I too have no idea where the heck bellingham is, but I have noticed the last couple of times I used the london brige service home, it was the bellingham train. The powers that be cannot insist that people leave their cars at home if they are going to erode public transport links.

Discussions about schools in ED - disturbing?
tiddles replied to snorky's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
hmm don;t understand why people are so surprised at parents' concern for lack of local school places? most kids go to school. It plays very big part of their life and social life. It is quite nice if they can walk there with their parents and other kids who live nearby. They can walk round to their mates after school maybe stay for tea if they like. So it is not unreasonable to be cheesed off if going to primary school involves a round trip entailing several bus rides or a schlep in the car - the going round to your friends has to be organised days in advance -the spontenaity of local living goes out the window. Some people choose to go private and therefore opt for the car journey thing HOWEVER most people (regardless of class - quite insulting to suggest that only 'middle class' people care about their kids and school) want to be able to walk to the/a local school. I didn't read the posts as a hysterical goodrich/heber thing, rather not being allocated anywhere local or had even heard of. rant over... -
hi, bit of a long shot, but I lost a silver bracelet thursday evening whilst out walking along friern road, underhill rd, whately road, lordship lane, northcross and underhill road. Made up of lots of twisted loops of silver linking together - not particularly valuable but much liked. fingers crossed

willow Trees at hither green - 0208 857 6438 - very nice and relaxed and good for littluns. not wildly smart or posh, but I found them always very nice -

great idea - we have often put items out with a note saying 'help yourself'. not always complete rubbish - just stuff we just dont need/have room for. I would love this - free rein to rifle thro some junk! Nothing wrong with skip sifting - as long as you ask first and what a great way to stop unnecessary waste. I would love this!

this is a bit 'how long is a piece of string'. Suffolk is lovely (grew up there). I would look at the suffolk/essex borders - ipswich/colchester areas as at least they have regular trains into liverpool street and not very hard to drive to (M25/A12) if you are coming back only every other week then you can afford to dig a bit deeper - Bury St Edmunds etc best of luck

actually snorky I don't think there is BNP sympathy amongst the masses. The thing about the BNP is that it is rather unpatriotic. It's just not british. What did we fight WW2 for? (yes alot of pensioners might have a legit gripe given how they are treated) but that is nothing to do with the BNP lot and their twisted world. Lots of people taking advantage of this country and what we offer - brits and non brits. but bottom line is, the BNP are a load of saddo, ignorant, twits. Being british (whatever your origin) is being above them. they are the lowest of the low. got a problem? blame a generic group- that is their answer. I cannot think of any person with an ounce of nouce who would admit to being a member. I have come across racsist people who when, pinned down, actually would not support them. The daily mail reader who is an avid churchill supporter could not really nail their colours alongside the bnp. the Marxis/leninist bunch are just not as obvously offensive as your run of the mill bnp bod.

Poor Digital/Freeview Reception on ITV/C4 in East Dulwich?
tiddles replied to p_in_ed's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I gave up on freeview as our service was very intermittent despite having a brand new aerial installed. Had to go to cable -
why not just do one of those comparison website things - I have saved a heck of a lot on buildingds/contents insurance. When I have been given a better quote, I have given my existing the chance to match and they couldnt. I admit I kept thinking I had missed something crucial (but hadn't)

The Blake mural has been painted over by the Council
tiddles replied to Mark's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
exactly = to paint it that colour? = the perfect backdrop for more graffiti? at least a splodgy green to blend with the artwork as a whole would have been a better option. I really wonder about who makes these decisions. -
yes, but does this tram go hand in hand with the tram depot - ie can we get one without the other? cos the tram depot plans were scary

Strange man near the Peckham Rye Cafe / One o'clock club
tiddles replied to jimbo1964's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
gosh, as a parent of two it is difficult not to be totally freaked out by the dreadful things that do happen to children, however I also feel that there is a sort of hysteria nowadays with regard to people with cameras and film in public spaces. Ok my children are old enough to know about stranger danger, saying no etc etc. I did see a man being questioned by police in dulwich park the other day - he was a little dishevelled and had a camera and was totally mortified by being stopped by the police. I think they had a look at his camera and saw shots of a load of ducks in the pond. He was talking to other adulst about how awful he felt and what was obviously being thought about him - They left him alone but I did feel for him. Yes, I understand that there have been some dodgy chaps lurking around those bushes where the kids climb, but most of the time we just have to let our kids run around and have fun - they are fully dressed for gods sake and supervised (from a distance) As someone else had said, with some crimes, any suggestion at all and one is tainted for life. -
yes, I agree with pierre...
