  1. James ,just to be clear the guardrailing is not a problem . It is the large litter/recycling bins that are the problem . They have recently appeared in this position and presumably could easily be removed . 20mph not an element in positioning of bins .
  2. James ,apologies if this has already have been raised but - junction of Whately Rd and Lordship Lane ,turning right into Lordship Lane from Whately Rd ,vision is badly obscured for motorists by recycling bins . Could they be relocated ?
  3. Mmmm ,well we ( I ) need to find out ,I fear loss of hearing is creeping up on me . As is . Sigh .
  4. " if you're going mutton there's not much point buying expensive gear. " Is that professional advice ? I'd always understood that loosing one's hearing involved becoming less able to hear certain pitches ,high I think . So simply amplifying everything would be the equivalent of having glasses that simply magnified everything . Was thinking that decent quality might be beneficial . Would be interested to know anyone's experience ,having hearing problems myself .
  5. See here for more about this . http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1299262
  6. I found Aloe Vera ( I used one from Health Matters ,honey flavoured ) good . You only take a mouthful twice a day .
  7. Actually the more I think about this the more I think that I wouldn't trust the workmanship of someone who took liberty's like that in my home .
  8. Jeremy - it was a firm called Bertrams http://www.bertrambuilders.co.uk/. Very nice they were too. Shocked that such normal behaviour ( ie not helping yoursef or expecting your client to offer but taking responsibilty for your own tea breaks ) is considered exceptional .
  9. I don't think it's a grey area . They shouldn't have helped themselves or expected you to offer . I hope their work is better than their manners . I've had workmen turn up with their own kettle and supplies and that's the correct approach . The toilet is different I think ,they can't help but use it really and the cost of a portaloo would presumably push up the cost of your job . Though I guess they could ask what you prefer .
  10. Difflam is good for painful mouth conditions . http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004OXAC70/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_2?pf_rd_p=479289247&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B001PMM136&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=0JAWSM2DGSRTMMHFADFN
  11. LondonMix ,I asked about the criteria used to decide which school to go with and this was the reply Belle April 03, 03:23PM Re your question intexas at the moment - we analysed the schools on our shortlist, assessing them on areas such as proven track record in education; experience in establishing new schools; understanding of the Free School bid process; inclusion strategies and, crucially, the capacity and resources to open the school by September 2016. The outcome of our assessment showed Haberdashers' Askes to be the strongest contender & we are delighted that they have come on board given their track record and experience as a multi-school federation.
  12. Train from Denmark Hill or Peckham to Victoria ?
  13. Could anyone - James ? - update us on the situation regarding the acquistion of the site for proposed new school . Is it owned by a health Authority ( or some such body ) ? Are they in agreement about selling some of it for a school ? Has a price been agreed ? Presumably the funding for the purchase will only be available once a sponsor is decided on ? How does the Dfe work out how much capital is available for land purchase ? Or will the land be leased ?
  14. Could we have some detail on the criteria used to decide which sponsor to go with ? As promised earlier James Barber March 12, 03:31PM "I anticipate the decision we take having a clear explanation of how we reached it. Supporters can rthen withdraw their support. One of the joys with obvious disbenefits is the Steering Group is able to make quick decisions. " ( In reply to kirstymacs " But the Steering Group must have some process in place for deciding who that provider will be - its not unreasonable to ask that question is it? " ) simonethebeaver March 12, 03:55PM We will also be happy to explain exactly why we chose that provide

  16. Denmothersmith ,I think JB has pipped you to the post with calling " sour grapes " poor looser and generally heaping vitriol on The Charter school . As you say not the best grounds for a new school venture . I think Derek Hill's post above at 12.23 answers your question about The Charters plans regarding expansion .
  17. Scruffy Mummy - well we don't really know what people want do we ? Thankfully as Derek Hill has pointed out the decision will be made by the DoE and not by a finger in the wind of EDF posts . Glad that distance wasn't putting people off from applying to Academy@Peckham . They are undersubscribed ,it will take several years before the pupils of the feeder primary school are of secondary school age and the new school opening on the Aylesbury estate will reduce demand . And I note from many posters that they feel it is urgent to have extra places now .
  18. Belle - James has expressed the opinion that the DoE might suggest that The Charter expand their existing site . He regards this as a bad thing ,a " danger " . But surely ,if that were possible ( and I have no idea whether it is but presume James must have based his remark on some knowledge I don't have ) that's an excellent thing if speed is the prime motivator here ? I don't feel speed is the most important factor here but surely for those of you who do , an existing site is better than one that hasn't yet been obtained ?
  19. I thought that there was a strong preference expressed on this thread for a local school that children could walk to from their homes ? Travel to such far flung places as Peckham was deemed excessive . Surely that was a vote for a distance based admissions policy ?
  20. Could we have detail about the scoring system and the ctiteria used to rank potential sponsors ? I see that you've already said " They don't have experience of the free school process. They originally thought they could bang out an application in a few weeks. " and that it was a " danger " that the DoE might suggest The Charter expand on it's existing site and that Charter parents might not want this . Leaving aside the fact that we don't know what Charter parents might want ,surely having an existing site that could ( if that were to be confirmed ) expanded is a good thing ? Not to mention more cost effective than purchasing a new site . Purchase of land on the hospital site hasn't happened yet has it ?
  21. Well ,gossip or rubber necking ,I'm grateful for the thread . My mum lives just off Rye Lane and being very elderly is getting a little muddled and anxious about things . She often hears noises in the night and wonders what they are ,details about incidents in the area help me relate to her . She was recently convinced that a full scale rehearsal for evacuating the area in the event of flooding had taken place over night . You might think that knowing there'd been a stabbing ,traffic accident or whatever is no help but at least I know there is often some real basis for her concerns .Sometimes I can even reassure her .
  22. thanks for that 73 ,my mum usually gets flowers from one of my overseas siblings and I was wondering if he'd forgotten . He always uses M&S .
  23. But sadly not Peckham Rye .
