Can anyone identify this plant for me?
intexasatthe moment replied to wee quinnie's topic in The Lounge
Could you have one plant growing up through another ? So that although it looks like that clump of leaves you've posted belong to the same plant as the flower ,it doesn't really ? -
You're right Sue .( goes without saying -) ) . Though sometimes they're cut in half ,horizontally ,so just the bottom part of window is obscured .

These are what I'd have if I could afford them ,the type referred to by red devil . Dont the plantation shutters block the light ?

Thank you to lady on Townley Road

Paracetamol is good and you can take in between doses of ibruprofen . Don't only take pain killers when you can't bear it any longer ,take them regularly . If it's really bad and stopping you sleeping ,phone your GP for and discuss stronger pain killers . And take prunes with them if something stronger prescribed as so many are very constipating . Edit - gosh I sound bossy and a right know it all .Sorry ,but it's horrid to be in pain and so many of us soldier on when sometimes I think it could be fairly easily better controlled . wishing you pain free soon . -
I went once to Fox on the Hill ,Denmark Hill and enjoyed the Xmas dinner there . It was the first time they'd done it though and not sure if they are still doing it ? Last year went to Alleyns Head and wouldn't repeat .Pricey for what was eventually delivered . Terribly crowded ,long ,long wait for table ,service clearly overstretched . It seemed that the main aim of management had been to cram as many people in as humanly possible .

parking at National Hospital Queens Square??
intexasatthe moment replied to Kalamiphile's topic in The Lounge
There is some meter parking in the area - Old Gloucester St and I think also in Boswell St . They are both one way and require careful access . You can turn into Old Goucester St from Theobalds Rd A401 . I'm afraid it's a bit of a nightmare up there .Sorry ,probably the last thing you need if you're visiting the hospital . -
how do I clear PMs and empty my " in box " ?
intexasatthe moment replied to intexasatthe moment's topic in The Lounge
Thanks all ! -
I'm sure this is expained somewhere but I've so far be unable to find where . Could someone point me in right direction or provide an idiots guide ?

Sue ,yes this is the shared bit .If you look closely you'll see a faint difference in shade and colour . This bit is a contraflow for cyclists and road not wide enough to use in both directions . I always thought it was a mad idea and that the glossy "consultation" was an expensive sham . As a cyclist I really wouldn't use that route it's not worth the hassle . Hope your partner is ok and sorry cyclist didn't stop .

Power cut, Landells Road
intexasatthe moment replied to thejournalist's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
No not just you ,lots of properties affected in Barry Rd . Power only just back on . Must have been a big problem to be out from midnight to 2pm . Big thank you to the engineers . Hope their pay reflected call out ,working at night ,plus in pouring rain . Bet it didn't . -
Foxhelp and Mens I think you make good points . I think growing up as mixed race is a complex process wherever you are . The parents ( as any parent ) need to feel happy with their environs and support network . Perhaps that's a key point - that the parent should be as happy and secure as any parent can be then there's a better chance of their child/ren dealing with whatever life throws at them . So maybe try less to predict where best to bring up a child and concentrate on factors that will support you as a parent ?At least that's more of a known unknown .

2nd Harris East Dulwich Primary School
intexasatthe moment replied to James Barber's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Spot on KK . And quite agree re " some councillors are known for saying things that are completely untrue then deny saying what they said " . That's one of the reasons I like to read their comments/debate/squabbling where they make statements . Though I've learnt the futility of pointing out or trying to persue any reversals ,untruths .I just think the interchange tends to highlight their true colours . -
I'm not sure how helpful my view - based on close friend who moved out of London with mixed race children 20 years ago - is but ....she moved for better quality of life ,good schools and also because of concerns that her children would be more exposed to hard line ,aggressive ,urban culture if she stayed in London. Particularly that of negative content from small minority of black ( and white ) groups/"gangs " . I don't know if I've explained that well .and apologise if I've offended people . Anyway the quality of life element was achieved and her boys led and lead physical and active lives . They did experience racism ,I think it's inevitable . I would guess that they benefited socially from being in a rather gentler environment than in London . I would add that the worst racism they experienced seemed to come from the schools and individual teachers and I think this did detrimentally impact on their education .I think London (and other large urban towns ) schools are way more professional and experienced in this respect . My friend moved a long way from London ,south west ,quite Tory/rural . I don't think it's possible to tick all the boxes ,a lot depends on individual circumstances . For what it's worth ,from your description - friends and family in area - if it were me ,I'd go for it and move . Oh ,final thought - employment opportunities are limited where my friend moved to and teenagers etc may be forced to move away for work and parents find slim pickings in job market . I think London does offer more employment opportunities .

As for " squabbling " perhaps we could have a forum vote ? As I've said ,I find it very illuminating . -
2nd Harris East Dulwich Primary School
intexasatthe moment replied to James Barber's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Apologies James but I don't find that your reply puts my mind at rest and I would prefer specific details . I wonder what standards/yardstick/vision is being used by whoever is assuring you ? Obviously the Harris ED Boys School met statutory regulations but I think it provides a woeful space for teenagers to spend their day . I say "obviously" but nothing surprises me - buildings can be delisted when demolition is required ( Pimlico School ) , planning requirements stating that certain access widths are required can suddenly become flexible ,the Harris Boys School in ED can have the architect suggesting staggered starting times , timetabling tweaks ( off site sports scheduled so that lunch times can be sacrificed ) and segregated dining times all as a means to cope with lack of physical space . So I'm as wary of the Harris track record on what is deemed to be adequate space as I am of trusting that planning regulations can be relied upon . ( ScorchyTalky in Fenchurch St ? ). -
2nd Harris East Dulwich Primary School
intexasatthe moment replied to James Barber's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Squabbling or debating I find the interchange between the 2 councillors very illuminating . I also find Renata's posts include more detail and fact . " My most major concern over this, is, whether building a whole new primary school on this site, would be at detriment to the current school and its pupils, current and future. If a school was built here, would Harris Primary, Boys and Girls schools form a through 4-18 Academy with automatic entry to secondary, if so what impact would this have on other residents in the area ? " - Renata I share your concerns . James you've been asked twice for more specific details about where on the Waveney site the primary school would be built ? Do you know ? Can you enlighten us ? -
getting medicine into pre schoolers

Funny isn't it that these studies are so often needed to confirm what we already know ? Guess scientific rigour v. anecdotal ,but can be trying . -
getting medicine into pre schoolers

Interesting piece on World Service this am ,basically acknowledging how hard it is to get medicine into small children . Quote this study ( though I think any mother knows already ) http://adc.bmj.com/content/98/9/725.full?sid=8c355f74-e26f-473b-81a6-fdddc3091708 that liquid is not easier . ( as a mother ,child long past infancy but I now have various swallowing issues of my own and totally agree with idea of mini pills ,especially with dollop of custard/fromage frais/greek yoghurt as easier than disgusting syrups 0 -
Summer uniform to buy today

Is the old uniform shop Wolfe and Scott ? still on Grove Vale ? Opposite Blackbird Bakery ? -
Lowlander give NickT a break . Just because some motorists are irresponsible/bad drivers it doesn't follow that all cyclists are beyond reproach and can cause no harm . And I'm a car driver and life long cyclist .
