It's just an old and unusual situation . "Infant and junior schools were often separate schools, but the final three decades of the 20th century saw many infant and junior departments coming together as single primary schools. The late 1960s and 1970s saw hundreds of infant schools in Britain abolished in favour of 5-8 or 5-9 first schools, but some of these were abolished in favour of a return to infant schools by the early 1980s and most of them have now followed suit. " DVIS is a voluntary aided Church school so I imagine that hindered any merging with the junior school .

criminal damage to window
intexasatthe moment replied to Countrlass22's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
How horrible for you ,and especially horrible no nice helpful neighbours . I'd wait a bit about getting latch fitted . Maybe I'm missunderstanding ( brain is a bit foggy today ) but if the glass is broken a lock won't help will it . Or is glass toughned now ? Just don't want you to be sold something expensive ,though Callows have never tried to to do that to me ,they've always been very good . This type of thing is simple and good IME http://www.easylocks.co.uk/easylocks-window-sash-stop-window-locks-p-4185.html?gclid=CJO5p47fiLcCFUfLtAodN3QAew Try not to let it get you down ,I expect it's random drunk people . Can you plant prickly hedge ? -
Well my experience is dated so probably worthless but others will know . Primary school population used to be pretty mobile ,indeed Goose Green in it's former life was affected badly ( results wise ) because of this ,with lots of comings and goings . Though I guess this probably affected less popular schools who inevitably had more spaces . But it used to be the case that it was easier to get a place in year 3 than reception . This was certainly true at Goodrich back in the day when it outshone Heber and people were fighting to get in . There's probably some online statistics one could check that might give you a clue ...Fuschia would probably know if she's not collapsed with trying to sell and buy new property stress .

63, 363 and other buses on diversion!
intexasatthe moment replied to Girl82's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It does seem that the buses or LT aren't cooperating this time . I think it varies according to route and operator. With previous closures the buses have always clearly announced that after whatever stop ( like Nigel Rd ) they were on diversion . This was often reinforced by the driver . Now some do and some don't . As I said on another thread I was on a 197 yesterday ( feeling not terribly well and struggling to catch train to Guys for not feeling terribly well treatment ,so no nagging about " man up " and don't moan about a short walk please ) no diversion was announced . I checked with driver to be told very rudely " Diversion ? Why would I be on diversion ? " In practice what this meant was that he didn't divert from his normal route ,sailed on down Rye Lane but just didn't stop until he reached Morrisons . As for stopping in Copeland Rd the north bound 12 I was on the other day stopped there . But I think all the south bound buses drive with no stops between the bus garage and Tesco Express aka Nigel Rd stop . But this was helpfully announced on the 78 bus I was on the other day . I'm not really moaning ,just saying be aware . Hopefully we'll be back to business as normal soon . -
Yes ,get off at Nigel Rd . And watch out for bus drivers who swear blind that they're NOT on diversion . "Why would I do that ? " But what they mean is that they're taking their normal route down Rye Lane ,but not stopping at any bustops . Might only be 197's playing this game .

Like your thinking Annette -)

The problem is that the trees in Barry Rd WEREN'T pollarded in spring/late winter . Many were pollarded in August and after a brief delay caused by discovery of nesting birds the work re started in September . And the RHS says "The least favourable time for pollarding is the autumn, as decay fungi may enter the pruning cuts ".
-
They're not Plane trees ,they're limes . I expect they will recover but I'm upset that they were pollarded so severely ( so that people can no longer even tell what kind of tree they are ) and in AUGUST while they were in full leaf . So we've had no autumn colours or leaves and no sign yet of any leaves .
-
I opened this thread hoping it was going to tell us that the savaged lime trees in Barry Rd were soon to cloaked in lovely pale green leaves . But I was wrong .

Interesting extract Fuschia . Depressing and not surprising . The situation makes it ever less attractive for schools to retain their community status - they'll have to expand ,while Academies don't ,and will have to rely on shrinking support from LA's . How can LA's meet their responsibilities to provide sufficient school places ? PS Fuschia your post needs editing to remove the duplication . Said hoping more people will read it if shorter !

Penalty Charge.. watch vid, is this fair?
intexasatthe moment replied to floradora's topic in The Lounge
Sympathies flora . I would feel exactly the same as you . -
Bkk hope you get it sorted . The floating pigeons scenario/urban myth ( though my dad used to terrify me with that tale and I wouldn't want to imply that he was fibbing ) applies to water from a water tank . And your drinking water , from kitchen tap ,should ( unless something wrong ) comes from the mains .
-
I agree with JohnL " if you were following a bus up the road and missed the signs then you were obviously to clos to the bus " it's really not as simple as that , with the height of a double decker and the positioning of the signs it is possible for the bus to obscure the signs . It's difficult to drive up Rye Lane and leave the distance between you and the bus that would be necessary to easily spot the signs .

Proposed Harris Primary School
intexasatthe moment replied to rgutsell's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Ten of Southwark's > 17 secondaries are academies and another a free > school, far outweighing the LEA-run > establishments. Which LEA run establishments ? There are no LEA run secondary schools in Southwark . -
Scam Warning from PRN
intexasatthe moment replied to stacey-lyn's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I've just had a phone call from "on line fraud " or somesuch querying suspicious activity on my account . Quoted 2 transactions taking place today on my Visa account - flat screen tv and a camera . Asked me to go and check if the card was still in my possession ,when I said I knew I hadn't lost it he asked me if I had it in my hand . When I said no ,and that that I wasn't going to get it he hung up . Apart from a very fake posh accent he also fleetingly referred to a Mr Intexas ( my partner has different surname ) so I was suspicious from start . Thinking now perhaps I shouldn't highlight the errors in his call .....they might read and learn . -
littlebelka I think I understand your posts and I didn't get the impression that you were criticising other people if they went down the medication route . And I share your distrust of drug companies , their desire for profits and the effect that has on our treatment . If it's any help I use Forest Hill Rd surgery and they discussed with me a range a treatments that were available . I chose CRT which is group therapy focussing on relaxation and compassion ( towards oneself ) . There was a few months waiting to start and I wasn't particularly optimistic but found it a huge help .Though like all these things I suspect much depends on the practicioner. So if offered CRT I would say consider it ,though obviously different treatments for different states . Might not be appropriate for all and possibly not for PND ,but mentioning it to spread the word .

Thanks KK ( think you're the guy who gave me the advice on travelling between Guys and St Thomas enabling me to keep two appointments scheduled very close to eachother ) can you tell me if I need a phone contract ( or service provider contract if that's more accurate ) to use 3G ? Anyone know about wi fi availabilty in hospital ? Is it common ?
-
I want to buy a tablet to use in hospital and my brother has advised me to get 3G . I'm not sure what 3G is and my technical experience is limited to a lap top and very basic pay as you go mobile phone . I want to use the tablet for emails ,listening to music and a relaxation ( not music ) compilation which I currently have on a CD Rom . But could have sent to me by drop box .Apparently . I imagine Wi fi will be available in hospital ( Guys and St Thomas's) won't it ? so wonder why 3G is necessary ? And does one have to have a phone contract to use 3 G . Any advice ? Very easy to understand please .
-
Absolutely agree about the problem of following a bus and missing the signage . And while we're on the subject - Southwark have changed their pay by telephone parking system . So DONT RELY ON A TEXT TO WARN THAT TIME IS RUNNING OUT - they're no longer sent .
-
Alexander Technique . It'a not a quick fix but you could go for a few sessions and learn the lying on the floor position which will help . No jokes please about how difficult can it be to work out how to lie on the floor .
