  1. I don't mean this unkindly ,but I think it's important to face up to the reality of the shortage of local secondary school places . This has always ( well ,last 3 decades ) been the case ,with the recent improvement seen at Harris Girls ED , Kingsdale and The Charter improving the situation . I can't see the situation changing ,there is a shortage/dearth of suitable sites ,and with all the secondary schools being their own admissions authorities and the majority controlled by sponsors there is very little hope of parents influencing choice of eg mixed sex style of any new schools . It is ,and has been for many years ,common for a lot of 11 year olds to travel long distances . I think it's a shame but it is doeable ,we have good transport links ,many travel in groups and most schools let them have a mobile phone so it as at least possible to stay in touch .
  2. I love alley ways and old connecting footpaths . Makes me sad to see them closed off ,though I guess it's a security thing . You used to be able to walk down a long footpath in Court Lane and come out ( I think ) near Barclays Bank . The Court Lane end was at the west junction of Court Lane Gardens and Court Lane .
  3. Right... and what do you make of this bit ? It must only be displayed if you are travelling in the vehicle as a driver or passenger, or if someone is collecting you or dropping you off and needs to park at the place where you are being collected or dropped.
  4. Not sure I understand your point stacey -lynn ? minder and any other blue badge users taking the holder to hospital for appointments etc remember that you can ( and many ,many do ) park on a double yellow line ,so long as you dont cause an obstruction .
  5. And once more for luck the badge holder DOES NOT HAVE TO BE IN THE CAR if they are being picked up or dropped off .
  6. minder ( and angelabbie ) the blue badge can be used for picking up or dropping off the holder The badge is for your use and benefit only. It must only be displayed if you are travelling in the vehicle as a driver or passenger, or if someone is collecting you or dropping you off and needs to park at the place where you are being collected or dropped.
  7. lilol was it Southwark who collected ?
  8. I know some fellow attendees live Peckham /Nunhead / East Dulwich . I didn't make it ,self conscious about my hair ! ,but would be great to catch up over coffee at a local emporium some time . PM me if you fancy .
  9. liliol you have all my sympathy . We've had this happen to us as well and it's distressing and very difficult to get help. I can't help thinking it would be helpful if Southwark were to publish guidelines as to what to do in this situation . Or if they do perhaps we could be directed to them .
  10. Stoning a bit extreme Huggers ,perhaps just a letter of complaint to bus company ?
  11. Why do people ( yes you at midday today ) think that activating hazard warning lights is the same thing as displaying a Blue disabled badge ? I'm sure Southwark will love me doing their parking enforcement for them by forwarding them a picture .
  12. They'll just argue that they havent buggered anything up ,the lime trees will come back ,that the camberwell cemetry work is scheduled on some spreadsheet in the sky to be done now . And they wont use as many words but the text is " like it or lump it "
  13. Absolutely right fl0wer ,it's to get the work done more cheaply , presumably same reason for pollarding trees in full leaf last August as no other reason makes sense . No doubt if Southwark thought things through they could save even more money by adopting the approach you suggest . An approach which would have multiple benefits . But I'm not holding my breath .
  14. " Officers and their contractors have stated the 12 trees are diseased " - yeah right ,lets hope their professional judgement has improved on that used to decide that lime trees be pollarded in August putting the trees under unnecessary stress and devastating all the insects etc dependent on the foliage . And as for the visual effect etc that we mere inhabitants of the borough might enjoy - well who cares ?
  15. Ta very much guys .
  16. not specific enough I'm afraid woodrot ,could be anywhere in HML from that description .
  17. This is going to sound really stupid but for the life of me I cant figure out where in HML this is ? can someone put me out of my misery ?
  18. Ginger capsules from holland and barret . Chewy gin gin sweets from h and b or health matters . dry oatcakes ,marmite rice cakes sherbty sweets like fruit mentos ,dolly mixtures . good luck and huge sympathy
  19. Not JKW - looks like bindweed . http://apps.rhs.org.uk/advicesearch/Profile.aspx?pid=241
  20. Was there some drumming last night ? Or was I dreaming ?
  21. Jane 1 - these are good http://www.essentialaids.com/swedish-trolley.html. and generally supplied free on assessment . http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/200389/staying_independent_at_home/2391/equipment_to_help_you/1
  22. Other options I know of are Oxfam book shop at Herne Hill ,there are 20 min parking spaces very close and same side of road .It's opposite Half Moon pub in Half Moon Lane . Or I use charity shop in Peckham ,it's on Peckham high St ,just before junction with Peckham Hill st on left hand side if driving east from Camberwell Green towards New Cross . Just after Peckham Square and before bus garage . There is a car parking spaces immediately outside ,but it's only free parking during the morning
  23. Jane1 - Wiltshire farm foods also supply Apetito ,I think their frozen range is slightly superior . My mum gets the MOW version ,I wouldn't say they are as bad as you describe . You do need to be careful what you select ,you're right chips don't respond to being kept warm in the van and dont arrive in good condition . If meals are arriving dried up it's probably because the edge of the film has been lifted up ( I sometimes suspect this is because the delivery lady has started peeling the film off ready to give to someone on the round but found them not in ,but thats just a guess ) and you need to complain about this . Apetito's number is 0207 639 8722 . My mother was asessed by Southwark and deemed in need of MOW so she pays a subsidised rate ,it's half what you pay if not subsidised . The number is 020 7525 3324 http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/200407/my_support_choices/2370/contact_southwark_adult_social_care They do an initial telephone screening with the elderly person ,they couldn't care less if that person has trouble hearing or holding the phone ,or whether the person answers questions like " Do you have trouble getting shopping " with a literal " No " . Though of course if the next question were to be " So how do you grt your shopping ? " the answer would be " My daughter gets it " They have a whole list of unexplained questions like " Do you keep money in the house ? " All conducted in a robotic voice obviously reading from a script . No human interaction like you can get in hospitals where they preface exercises like this with a sympathetic " I'm afraid there a lot of questions and some of them might seem odd " ,but then thats face to face . Good luck ,I'd persevere with Apetito ,just be careful not order meals with chips or omlettes . I've never known the food to be cold . Bland ,but not cold .
