Will the keyboard allow you to interrupt the boot process using whichever keys (F2, F4, F8, Esc, Delete, ..) are prescribed for doing so? Yes, do look at the keyboard Device Manager(s) to see if it reports the device(s) are believed to be working properly. It will also permit a request to update the drivers, and should tell you if they're up-to-date. Another diagnostic/prodding alternative would be to try booting from a linux disc or USB stick. Or to try an external USB keyboard. What make of laptop is it, and what operating system? Googling "WhateverLaptopMake laptop keyboard not working" might just bring forth something more specific.

I believe that makes it an Extended Determinate Sentence. It means he will serve at least two thirds of the 13 years before release, and will have to satisfy the Parole Board that he is safe to release if he is to be released within the 13 years. Even then he will still be on licence for five years from his earliest date of release, and be eligible for recall if he breaches the terms of the licence within that period. I seriously doubt that none of the prescribed buttons (there can be system variations: have you tried eg F4? What machine and OS are you using?), for accessing startup or boot management will function. What you're describing sounds to me like an interrupted attempt to boot. It sometimes happens to me when I've left a second system disk externally attached to the system, which the BIOS then grasps at as the device to boot from. In your case I'm wondering if one of your optical drives still has a disc in it that's causing the trouble. Or possibly the "the sonos software", whatever that is, has commandeered the boot process for its installation, with maybe a virtual drive installed somewhere? Do you have no recovery disk? Another possibility is that your boot sector has got corrupted and needs resetting.
