  1. Look at least at the Greenpeace article https://energydesk.greenpeace.org/2017/04/04/air-pollution-map-mean/. There are a lot of Defra datasets, but given that the data are said to be from a road sampling, I suspect they're as in the attached screenshot of NOx measurements as got from https://uk-air.defra.gov.uk/data/gis-mapping. It's a sampling only of A roads. I don't know any of the sampling details but they should be available to assiduous delving. You can use the map tool on that page to look at other types of emissions, and also with Data Type = Background.

  3. I think "advice as to control" can include advice as to whether they need to be, or should be, controlled. There's more to read about them, btw, on the site that lavender27 quoted, https://www.reference.com/home-garden/remove-ground-nesting-bees-b092b33306609515.

  9. First house moths and ladybugs of the year this week. A couple of weeks ago, in Bellenden Road, at the junction with Highshore, my attention was grabbed by something big in the clear sky. It was a magpie, carrying in its beak a branchlet of a tree that could have been up to two foot long. On its way to a nearby rooftop I think.
  10. > Click on "My Control Center" in the top bar of the home page, > "Edit my files" is the bottom option on the left-hand menu, > select and delete. That's only for uploading files. The delete function there is just to undo your selection of a file for upload. I don't see much point in editing posts in order to save space. Use right click and View Page Source (or similar) in your browser, to see how small a proportion of the thread's file (as downloaded) is taken up by your actual words. On the server it may be even less. Attached files take up much more space. In any case, when I see deletions of For Sale items after their sale it just gets me wondering about the poster's integrity and what they may want to hide. Btw, expect this thread to eventually be moved to the About This Forum section.

  12. > I have searched for items relating to say 'dog walking' > and 'dog walkers' and your search engine showed up nothing What it actually shows is any posts containing either of the words. To find those containing just a phrase, keep it in double quotes; eg "dog walking".
  13. > I have posted back the questionnaire Whose questionnaire, and how does it arrive? RM do provide alternatives to personal collection from the delivery office, so in making your case it might be prudent to mention any drawbacks in those. They're listed at http://www.royalmail.com/personal/receiving-mail/redelivery.
  14. > Have a look in today's [1 April] Guardian Magazine. For the 95% of readers who don't have it to hand, it's a short article entitled "'I like the idea of my body as biomass': bright ideas for your afterlife - Our cemeteries are full, so how about becoming fuel (to heat a swimming pool) or having an augmented reality memorial?" It quotes BC, and helps outsiders by explaining that her '?Southwark Woods? refers to Camberwell?s old and new cemeteries', but is mainly a light nudge into a little more thinking about death and dead bodies. Southwark Library members can see it via Newsbank at http://infoweb.newsbank.com/signin/LondonBoroughSouthwark (search for hawthorn).

As I wrote in http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1536718,1562542#msg-1562542 on 18 August 2015 -------------------------- > Of 55,918 cars in the 2014 sample of free-flowing > traffic on built-up roads in Great Britain with a 30mph speed limit: > Average speed: 30 mph > Proportion exceeding limit: 45% > Proportion exceeding limit by more than 5 mph: 15% (see the actual message for more info) As I wrote in http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,1733950,1734299#msg-1734299 on 30 September, 2016 --------------------------------- > There are interesting national sample statistics > on compliance with speed limits in free-flowing > conditions. A screengrab of one figure, including a report of 47% of cars exceeding a 20mph limit by at least 5mph in the 2015 national survey sample, is attached. Melbourne Grove South probably stands out from these only in that it's been the subject of concerted skilled lobbying.

  20. For a summary of the motivating factors, see also the short accompanying report submitted to the Cabinet member, downloadable from the Decision Details page http://moderngov.southwark.gov.uk/ieDecisionDetails.aspx?Id=6056, or get it directly: http://moderngov.southwark.gov.uk/documents/s66569/Report.pdf. The downloadable copies of the Strategy document at Burbage's link look to me identical in content. The smaller one has perhaps generally better colour contrast. Both versions have some examples of scrappy importation of graphics files. Some of the sources weren't at high enough resolution and contain compression artifacts, and there's occasional truncation (as in eg Appendix G).
  21. For anyone who wants a downloadable copy of the "New Southwark Plan: Area Visions and Site Allocations (Preferred Option)", the PDF file (15.6MB, covering all Southwark) and supporting documents are at www.southwark.gov.uk/planning-and-building-control/planning-policy-and-transport-policy/development-plan/local-plan/. The East Dulwich section of 15 pages starts at page 135.

  23. I've just noticed I have a copy of a similar but clearer FoI response from 2010: Following a stakeholder consultation conducted in 2007, we have implemented a change to bus stopping practices, removing the distinction between compulsory and request stops. It was found that most people using bus services in London do not distinguish between a request stop and a compulsory stop. The vast majority of passengers hail the bus if they wish to board and ring the bell to alight. We are gradually standardising stops so that they all use the compulsory flag (a red roundel on a white background). All stops in central London are now of this same design. The change effectively means that the onus is on the driver to stop if someone wishes to get on or off, and drivers should only pass a stop if they are certain that no-one wishes to board or alight. We did not publicise the change as research indicated that very few passengers would be changing their normal practice of hailing and ringing the bell.https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/buses_not_stopping_at_compulsory I generally try to be helpful with my body language, stepping away from the stop and looking elsewhere, if the one approaching isn't the one I want.
  24. In case anyone thinks it's all mechanical, have a look at the short MRF clip 4 - Hand Sort (3.4MB) at https://www.veolia.co.uk/southwark/media/media/videos, where you can see workers removing all the (unrecyclable) plastic bags from the stream of paper and card, where they shouldn't have been at all.
  25. I tried trundling my way through http://www.identifont.com/list?3+Century%20Gothic+27.30+1N2+1+43RG+2+SC+2+2GDG+2+3LFG+2+3ZS5+2+45OH+2+4ECP+2+3A9A+2+4LZU+2+4JFB+2+3N62+2+2BB6+2+495L+2+GB0+2+345H+2+3681+2+PRO+2+48R8+2+34YX+2+3D5R+2+MKX+2+F6+2+3376+2+3P2I+2+2RRV+2+2XZW+2+64F+2+2DQE+2+3A6L+2, a task imo likely to lead to mental collapse if carried on too long. A little before the end, still without any clear fit, my brain whispered to me to google on the title name + "album cover font", and I ended up at http://uchi.co.uk/blog/tag/the-revolution-will-not-be-televised/. From there, not even stopping for a cuppa, it was a quick hop, skip and jump to ITC Avant Garde Gothic at https://www.myfonts.com/fonts/itc/avant-garde-gothic/, and then to the Standard Medium version at https://www.myfonts.com/fonts/itc/avant-garde-gothic/std-medium/. I think that's it, though I suppose it's possible it could be one of the other variants shown there, which I've not checked. Please don't tell me I'm wrong.
