  1. Twinning. I think it was Deventer.
  2. Next HSBC takes B&B?
  3. Sorry, snorky, but the back of your envelope needs new batteries. You will need at least ?200k at bottom.
  4. Careful what you wish for, fractionater. The tree roots may be stopping your front wall from collapsing.
  5. Which SE22 residences are in the catchment areas for the two Dulwich Village schools?
  6. There is a two-page article about the War Memorial in the Autumn 2008 edition of The Dulwich Society Newsletter.
  7. I've read the post-drinks posts of this young persons' thread. An objective summary seems to be: Nunhead now has the best pub in East Dulwich.
  8. This house price crash is taking place much faster than earlier ones. One reason could be that this time there is a more transparent market because of the Internet. Unless there is a disasterous undershoot SE22 prices should stabilise when one bedroom flats with a reserve of ?100k do not fail to sell at auction.
  9. I'm sorry to hear of your difficulties. > As we learnt today, the brass studs indicate a shop's frontage, but the shop would still need permission from Southwark Council to allow anyone else to use it for trading. Southwark Council are currently pursuing a policy of clearing the streets - removing street furniture etc - so any business deemed to be an "obstruction" has no chance of being given a licence. This statement does not ring true. (1) You cannot cause an obstruction on private property. (2) Southwark Council has not applied the same "rules" to stalls outside retail premises in Lordship Lane.
  10. Bellenden Village.
  11. Before Goose Green roundabout was installed the road junction was cobbled. I think this was to accomodate the tram point rails, switchs, and electricity supply conduits. Other than that I can only remember a few cobbled areas. The entrance to the Canada Dry factory yard in East Dulwich Road. A few side streets off the main roads where the only the first 10 yards or so were cobbled. This may have been something to do with horse and carts turning. A few alley-ways.
  12. > Here: [www.telegraph.co.uk] Bad journalisam. Does not quote source. Think about it for a moment: exclude the Highlands, the Islands, mountains, moorland, forests, and agricultural land - at least 80% of the UK landmass - and your "source" is saying there are over 700 CCTVs per square mile.
  13. > There are 14m+ cameras trained on us. Source of data? That's more than 150 per square mile for the UK.
  14. > Macroban and MM are simply parading their usual arguments of lower taxation for all An ad mulierem attack and at least three other rhetorical devices in so few words. The writer should try a career in advertising. The re-introduction of Schedule A Income Tax is not "lower taxation for all".
  15. I can't be there for the re-dedication ceremony at Noon on 14 September. But I'm "bumping" this thread as a reminder for those who can attend. My heart-felt thanks go to all of those involved in this project. MacRoban
  16. Or it could be an untruthful notice. There may be no CCTV cameras. Just like some of those fake burglar alarm boxes on residential premises.
  17. One reason for a high income tax threshold and a commensurate change in means-tested benefit qualifying levels is to stop the waste and cost of bureaucracy of one arm of government taking away money from and individual and another arm of government giving it back to the individual again, sometimes in a hypothecated manner which denies freedom of choice. I would have thought the re-introduction of Schedule A Income Tax would be contentious in areas such as East Dulwich.
  18. A mild statement from Marmora Man: > the best way to do this would be to raise tax thresholds - a ?1,000 hike in tax threshold would give every taxpayer ?220. That's only tinkering. Back to the 1950s: (1) No individual on average earning pays income tax - raise single person's tax code to 2500L. (2) Adjust means-tested benefits to match (1) (3) Re-introduce Schedule A Income Tax.
  19. "Mr Ralon" has always been friendly, kind, and helpful to me over a couple of decades.
  20. > For instance every Police Station (& it's postcode) will show as a Crime spike. East Dulwich Police Station is very busy.
  21. > If you look at development plands for Heathrow the plan is for over 700,000 (currently 475,000) flights a year which compares with 260,000 (190,000 currently) for Stanstead. How stale are these data? I was under the impression that there has been a permanent step-change downward in flight numbers.
  22. The real grouse here is not about the +venture Bar but EDF posters realising that they are NO LONGER YOUNG.
  23. Were men and sabre-tooths [sic] co-eval?
  24. The Foxtons' way.
