    a joke

Why don't estate agents look out the window in the mornings? Because they'd have nothing to do in the afternoons.
  3. Maybe the workers were at lunch, but work seems to have stopped.
  4. I was down that way today and I couldn't see any progress. Is it actually going to open?
  5. First place to check is the Southwark Local Studies Library to see if they have a copy.
  6. CH My father and others of his peer group took great delight in deliberately mis-pronouncing French words and English words of French derivation. I don't know why. I can imagine the three local estate agents (Martin & Co, White Dent, Burnet Ware) who dealt in these properties in the last quarter of the nineteenth century inducted the arrivistes into the correct pronunciation of their new street names. Then something "went wrong".
  7. Thank you, Loz, Then, on the face of it, this man has done nothing illegal. MacRoban

  13. Any south east London south west of the Old Kent Road pronunciation that does not discard a redundant syllable is suspect. Eth-roe [Added example: "I went shopping in Cam-well"]
  14. Where does ?7.50 come from? I read it as ?8 in advance or ?10 at the gate.
  15. > I'm intrigued by Whately Rd being called the Tea Gardens. I wonder what its 21st-century equivalent should be Le Chandelier Boulevard
  16. > Sounds like that interest rate cut isn't as unlikely as some people thought.... Interest rate cut, sterling falls, the 60% of food we import increases in price, household budgets squeezed, housing more unaffordable, house prices and rents fall. But not in East Dulwich.
  17. Neither. It has a silent "w".
  18. Well, there is something ovine about them.
  19. I don't think my pensioner friends who are council tenants would like the idea that the shouldn't have their homes for the rest of their lives.
  20. I know it as Wait-lee, but I remember some old folk in the 1950s calling it Wait-tell-lee.
  21. I've always known it as On-dean.
  22. I watched Altima Court being built. You probably did too. What is the design life?
