  1. East Dulwich Woolworths > William Hill Control Centre > DSS Office > Foxtons An interesting transition since World War II.
  2. I appreciate the work that is being done. Thank you. In the 1950s family and friends called this the East Dulwich war memorial, and I've never heard any other name for it. Did other residents have another name for it? With the removal of the other local war memorial from the grounds of Dulwich Hospital and the removal of the rolls of honour boards from the local churches it is, de facto, the East Dulwich war memorial. Perhaps this thread could be re-named "The East Dulwich War Memorial", subject to anyone else having better information and later discussions with other attendees in November.
  3. > Depending on the takings and rent and time of lease remaining a cafe' in ed would be very expensive to buy, at least 100k I would say, minimum.! Interesting assertion. The calculation doesn't work on the back of my envelope. karter is a local businessperson?
  4. If Caffe Nero does not have planning permission, is it illegal to drink there?
  5. Thanks for the reference, Dannyboy. Unfortunately I can't get the site search engine to locate our War Memorial. I remember being told that our local Volunteers were associated with the London Artists' Rifles. This makes sense because of the East Dulwich barracks, but it may be a natural error because of the proximity. 40-year old memories are probably unreliable anyway. I hope your research provides more information.
  6. The war memorial is actually on the West side of Lordship Lane. If you walk South from the Harvester, cross Dulwich Common, it's about 10 metres further South.
  7. I support this initiative. The war memorial is not totally forgotten. It had one wreath last Remembrance Sunday when I visited. The contrast between this one wreath and the multiple wreaths on the Dulwich Village war memorial was notable. A second East Dulwich war memorial was in the grounds of Dulwich Hospital. I understand this is currently in safe storage. I would certainly like to know more about about the East Dulwich Volunteers.
  8. I don't think this thread should have been lounged. The thread is valid. The problem was with immature posters. They should have been lounged.
  9. Honor Oak is now East Dulwich
  10. I now have my three voting forms from Southwark Council. There is no "None of the above / Do nothing" option.
  11. What is "the East Dulwich logo"?
  12. All the proposals would restrict drivers' lines vision across the roundabout or may distract drivers when navigating the roundabout and would make the roundabout more unsafe. The Community Council will have access to the risk assessment for each of the proposals. I am unsure of the legal corporate liability of Community Council members who make a "bad decision".
  13. Roughly 8.3% of the population, plus or minus a little seasonal variation.
  14. There are brass studs in the pavement in Grove Vale between Elsie Road and Derwent Grove. These were put in place when Grove Vale was narrowed to "improve" traffic flow and create the modified bus stop. In Lordship Lane between Spurling Road and Crawthew Grove alternating red paving slabs have been used. As far as I know, both types are approximate boundary markers.
  15. Is this the first ever East Dulwich WI, or was there an earlier one that faded away?
  16. > You are right, I think that next time Domitianus talks off subject then admin should lounge the thread. Collective punishment?
  17. I do not understand why a "valid" thread such as this should be "lounged" because of irresponsible postings. Action should be taken on the irresponsible postings/users instead?
  18. I think "Very annoying behaviour at Green and Blue" should be re-named to a neutral "Green and Blue". This principle of neutral thread names should also be applied to all local businesses.
  19. Many thanks. So "East Dulwich" is not contiguous with SE22.
  20. What is the Census definition of "East Dulwich"?
  21. Why not re-title this thread: "Homes suitable for bank holiday weekend burglaries"?
  22. > the official opening time is 8 Is this legal? Didn't the legal convenant giving the land to "the people" specify dawn to dusk?
  23. More prosaic. I bought it for 10p from a local junk/charity shop about twenty years ago. There's a picture of the sleeve here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140111496899
