  1. I misread this one. I thought the thread would be about the now rich East Dulwich sponsoring something like a rural hospital in Kenya.
  2. A ?60 fine for a parking mistake is a lot of money in relation to a State Pension of ?87.30. A mistake would mean less food or less heating. A rich person can treat the fines as discretionary expenditure.
  3. I know what a "No Smoking" sign looks like. I don't think I've ever seen "No Breastfeeding", "No Flashing", or "No Snogging" signs. Do they exist? What do they look like?
  4. It's probably important to point out that these are not the only two cases. For example, I can't find any planning applications for White Stuff or Foxtons in the context of: Policy S.3.3 (page 82) and (Supplementary Guidance)
  5. Some bias here? Complain about Caffe Nero, but not The Plough? But at least they put in a planning application (of sorts).
  6. Don't trust wikipedia. Trains in 1958? The tracks were taken up in 1956. Lordship Lane has/had three stations which are commonly used as reference points to say where you are. Railway station Fire station Police station e.g "I was down by the fire station".
  7. As Peckham native. "Going down the lane" means shopping in Rye Lane. Always has done. Why do these incomers insist on renaming things?
  8. On my way from Lordship Lane Sation to East Dulwich Station I counted 19 estates agents (excluding Foxtons). Into the early 1970s I seem to remember there were three estates agents only. Why this substantial increase? Is it an index of the dysfunctionality of the East Dulwich community? Are there now so many transients?
  9. Don't worry. I didn't walk all that way just to look at the sign to see if I remembered it.
  10. Sean MacGabhann must have had early morning problems. The sign is only John Alan advertising that he supplies flowers to restaurants and hotels. Up to the First World War 4 Lordship Lane was J.S.Marsh (ham and beef stores).
  11. Still looks flimsy to me. What's the designed life-span?
  12. Only when Admin's down the pub.
  13. >> a schools issue which will benefit swathes of ED residents. > Which is? A secret?
  14. Thank you, Mr Davern. A secret deal is already in place?
  15. No problem, Tom. Just pop into your friendly local estate agent and ask them the height above sea level of your home and when they estimate it will be affected by the melting of the ice caps.
  16. Does installing potential fire hazards (outdoor heaters) impact on the premises' licensing conditions and, where required, fire certificates?
  17. Should have been built on a wooden raft. Strange these clever folk didn't think of this.
  18. I was told that the PoWs were reasonably happy there. [Well, better off than the then alternatives]. Another one for John Beasley?
  19. In what sense is this "sustainable"? Is its planned life-span as long as the 125 years and counting of East Dulwich terrace houses? Looks pretty flimsy to me.
  20. Hearing date not yet set. Appeal Reference: APP/A5840/C/07/2046890 Submissions (in triplicate) to: The Planning Inspectorate Room 3/21 Eagle Temple Quay House 2 The Square Temple Quay Bristol BS1 6PN no later than 31 July 2007.
  21. Caffe Nero [8-10 Lordship Lane] was due to be closed down on 11 June 2007 as a result of the London Brough Of Southwark Planning Enforcement Notice issued on 27 April 2007. This was because the A3 (restaurant) usage would [sic] adversely affect the "protected shopping frontage" [8-24 Lordship Lane]. Nero Holdings Limited has appealed against the Planning Enforcement Notice. One of the grounds of appeal is that "Cafe [sic] Nero has therefore had a positive effect on the vitality of the key shopping frontage and Dulwich as a whole".
  22. > a schools issue which will benefit swathes of ED residents. Which is?
  23. I've read that fuel suppliers now have arrangements in place to report to the police domestic premises that have unusually high power consumption for their size. Something to do with growing plants at home.
  24. I was going to contact karter privately about an exciting business opportunity, but a sense of public service and the need to share overwhelmed me. The Woolwich premises are large enough for a 24/7 East Dulwich Babe 'n' Buggy Compound. Just like those multi-stacking garages in NYC. Deposit children and/or buggies on demand and pay by the hour with a discount for overnight storage. Want to go shopping, have a meal, or go for a drink? Dump that child. Partner away on a business trip and need privacy? Dump that child overnight. It could be a money machine.
