  1. > I think there's a good over 60's lunch club down at the pensioners centre in Camberwell. I'd be grateful for details. Thank you.
  2. > Did I understand another thread correctly that one of the vacant shops by Goose Green is about to become a sizeable dentist surgery 2 Lordship Lane, I think.
  3. Is there an update?
  4. How many scones do you get for your Retirement Pension?
  5. I think I remember it was the local milliner's. I could be wrong - my memory's not so good these days. The William Rose premises was the local cycle shop. The Mrs Robinson's corner unit was the local pram/toy shop. The side window had a penny-in-the-slot model railway. The brass slot was still on the window frame a few years ago.
  6. Has nobody else seen the Foxtons' fairy lights?
  7. 1 Retirement Pension = 7 sandwiches.
  8. Disneyland lights at night?
  9. > I am not sure that the lady who lives next to William Rose has any legal right to make such demands, the pavement is public not private property. Long stretches of the Lordship Lane pavements are owned by the shops. It's difficult to tell which unless there are boundary markers. It would certainly make life interesting if the shops built boundary walls.
  10. Probably advance works for the Harris Academy.
  11. West Dulwich is only ~WEST~ of the railway line.
  12. The Ivanhoe is in the right place. The SE22 border is wrong.
  13. I vaguely remember there used to be a World War One "commemorative tablet" over the tunnel entrance in the old main stand. Can anyone confirm this?
  14. Just a thought, prompted by peckham_perkster. If you have the opportunity, why not ask an elderly person what they remember about the memorial? It would be a shame if any more East Dulwich oral history is lost.
  15. I must admit I get disappointed when on-topic East Dulwich treads are hi-jacked by the children and are moved to The Lounge.
  16. I see the premises are now being gutted. Any news on the new occupiers?
  17. I see that ChoicesUK has now gone into administration too. Much larger that FOPP.
  18. Tricking drivers' eyes sounds inherently dangerous.
  19. The three months of alternative routes will be interesting. I wonder which will be best.
  20. Thank you for the up-date. I look forward to reading the results of your research. The memorial did look reasonably attractive today with the flowering green ground cover.
  21. Looks accurate - no pond(s) on Goose Green.
  22. I saw the first warning notice this morning near to the East Dulwich War Memorial when I was out shopping. The sign says work starts on 2007-09-03 with an estimated duration of three months. The sign also gives the customary warning about delays and using alternative routes. Does anyone have more information? Which parts of Lordship Lane? Will the work be done in phases? Which roads will be closed or made one-way? Will there be additional parking restrictions?
  23. > meanwhile hundreds of local parents and children now face at least a year's further delay before this local school will be built. That should be a lesson in civics for the Harris Federation to do things properly.
  24. > Tax should be associated with tasks that draw down on hidden costs involved in sustaining social structure - hence I have no problem with income tax, VAT, road tax etc. etc. That's OK then. Inheritance Tax (as it is now branded) was introduced in 1796 to help pay for the war against Napoleon.
  25. cdonline wrote that "some of the kids look suspiciously old to be wheeled around". This is a puzzle. Used to be that if a child was not walking and in reins by just over a year old it would be taken to the doctor to see if it was retarded.
