  1. Oh dear, I'm repeating myself - but nothing new there. Prediction about the Harris Academy: Within five years of opening: The selection criteria will exclude most working class boys. Very few of the pupils will be from North of Peckham Road/Peckham High Street. Many parents will be those who can't afford, or won't pay, the fees for Alleyns or Dulwich College. The property prices in the East Dulwich Bermuda Triangle will double. The school will be renamed "Honor Oak".
  2. -- moved topic --
  3. West Dulwich is SE21 west of the railway line (without the appropriation of SE26).
  4. > Goes great with beef wellington Vulcanised?
  5. Declan, Do you mean subjects like East Dulwich bomb-sites where we didn't play because they were too dangerous? Macroban
  6. I quite like the estate workers'(?) houses in Park Hall Road (opposite the Alleyn's Head).
  7. Not on Lordship Lane, unless planning permission for the alterations is granted.
  8. It's Sunday, I should be charitable, and I should be able to say something good about West Dulwich.
  9. There is no West Dulwich Forum.
  10. If the main building does have ferro-concrete decay then conversion is unlikely to be an option.
  11. Big mistake going to West Dulwich.
  12. I ~never~ used the fire exit as an unauthorised means of entrance when the usherettes were otherwise occupied. I just think it's unfortunate that the cinema didn't survive through to the resurgence of East Dulwich. It may have been a smallish stage but it would have been sufficient for a live music venue for today's youngsters.
  13. > The proposed change of use, to include take-aways and deliveries will lead to additional traffic and parking in an area that is already heavily parked and consequently may be detrimental to road safety and the movement of essential traffic, particularly buses. An A5 Use Class also increase the risk of double parking on roads and would generate a greater volume of short term parking. This would be contrary to Policy 5.6 'Car Parking' of the emerging Southwark Plan [Jan 2007] and Policy T.1.3 'Design of Development and Conformity with Council Standards and Guidelines' of the adopted Southwark Unitary Development Plan 1995. Naturally, these grounds will not be applied to the Harris Academy.
  14. Meanwhile... The world's stock markets are in free-fall.
  15. The fire exit in Tintagel Crescent was useful too.
  16. The Odeon also used to run children's talent shows.
  17. I think the Odeon was an East Dulwich sex aid.
  18. Walsh Glaziers are still very firmly with us in the old ice cream factory. Much nicer premises too.
  19. > (I am not a battered OAP either, as it goes) Is that ageist insulting poster still in the window?
  20. Part of Candy & Candy's lomg-term strategic plan to manage global warming when their existing London properties are under 60 feet of sea.
  21. I see that HMV have bought the "Fopp" name and the six Fopp stores that were trading profitably. The other 76 Fopp stores must have been running at a loss. The quarter ending 30 June HMV shop sales are reported as down 20%. It seems unlikely that there will ever be a record store in East Dulwich to replace Follets.
  22. The Mind Shop normally has good quality clothes (but it's actually in Grove Vale).
  23. Agent's sign went up a couple of days ago.
  24. 107-109 Lordship Lane 1674 sq feet sales area ?33,840 pax Seems like a bargain.
  25. Ageist poster in their shop window - insulting OAPs.
