  1. touche, snorky, actually i thought to hang around and see if the three tree feller fellows popped over the lane for a pint and a ploughmans in the EDT. now that would have been comedic [except for the tree]
  2. Saw a tree being cut down and chipped on Zenoria street [behind Nero Cafe] this very morning. The trunk seemed to have a notice attached, but not sure what it was, as the tree was already down. Ultraconsultancy
  3. All round to Marmora Man's for din-dins methinks!
  4. I'd echo barrymarshall above - if you can keep your wits you should shout "fire" rather than "help". In my military school days there was quite a bit of fighting with local scruffs - our rule was to think where you want to be, then go there fast. If you do need to fight, remember most fights only last one punch, so get in there first. Stay safe people Ultraconsultancy
  5. Are we really talking about the practicalities of managing intolerance here? How would any of you feel about a request for a woman free space, or an immigrant free space, or , ironically, a curmudgeon free space? Ultraconsultancy
  6. Good to meet you all again last night - lots of quality banter about crap music, new bookshops, and how piers stays so thin.I find myself with the same twenty I brought out, and so Piers, Brendan, Citizen, and Raj, it's my shout next time. Emily; I think you might have been sledging me, but if i did offend you i am heartfelt in my apologies, that was a very rotten thing to say. Ultraconsultancy
  7. Too true, Piers. Of all the Eminent Victorians we are encouraged to mock, Robert Baden Powell is the one whom might serve modern society best IMHO. See you tonight? Ultraconsultancy - who might be opening a bookshop soon!
  8. I'd have thought if it was some misguided junior behind this the OS's senior mgmt would have been on holding the scalp aloft - if they haven't one can assume they know theyve been caught and spanked.
  9. I was bitten by a spider on the leg a couple of years ago and suffered enornous pain, some slight paralysis, and a lot of uncomfortable swelling. yes, here in the UK! So local breeds are changing, and of course it's the more aggressive ones that dominate. IIRC I was once told that almost nothing other than predation limits the growth of the individual spider; if you keep one warm and well-fed it will just keep growing... Ultraconsultancy
  10. I was on the verge of tapping said PWEI fan on the bonce to tell him I too, suffer, and have one of the original pepsi logo t-shirts somewhere. but i desisted, thinking this would mark me out as musically marginal. but clearly there were more than two of us. Sean do you know every eighties musician that gets mentioned? Were you a venue manager, or a drug dealer or something? What's the time? It's def con one! Ultraconsultancy
  11. I thought testarossas only came in red!
  12. Showtyme, I will never rate anyone's Louis Armstrong spiel as highly as yours...
  13. Fantastic meeting everyone - and has made me even keener to set up business in ED! Ultraconsultancy
  14. So badger, got in at 2 am and got straight on the EDF? Now that's loyalty for you! Very nice to have met you last night; a very enjoyable bash all round I thought! Ultraconsultancy
  15. SimonM - someone in the planning office at southwark should be up to speed on DDA as it applies to commercial premises - on the face of it would have thought if application had beeen granted for change of use and a new frontage, then current DDA requirements ought to have been enforced. i'm not really a Foxton basher [no more so than any other estate agent!] but as a retail consultant of sorts I do get very angry with 'big corp' flouting the law like this. 16. Hey I feel I'm in good company here... that would be in my top ten sunday morning albums.
  17. And if I told you, I'd have to kill myself!
  18. Hey Downsouth I know the guys who made a stack buying up those old warehouses when they were going for a song, simply to get the storage, then sold out later. Nice guys, and own the kind of jets you dont have to bend down to get into. All of the millionaires I know from bookselling made their stack on property speculation necessitated by needing lots of cheap storage. Look and learn, as the fans used to sing...
  19. Mmmmh yes please. Despite my celtic roots I do like a bit of pie and mash. Especially with that green 'liquor' gravy. Ultraconsultancy
  20. Maybe we should start a Keep Christmas in December campaign, to run along side the Late Night Opening campaign. Whatever happened to the Late Night Opening campaign? Ultraconsultancy
  21. Jeremy - in retail "Christmas" starts on the Tuesday after the August Bank Holiday. And in some businesses it starts on 1st July [second half of the calender, lads, lets get the mistletoe up...].
  22. The book trade is immensely cynical, duplicitous, and dictatorial - and successful in duping the GP that it's otherwise. Sophie is doing the covert hearts-and-minds PR to perfectrion; intro, name, address, USP, current promo, coming promo, reinforcement. She's a marketing angel. BTW those "staff pick" signs you see in big bookshops? They come out the fax machine from the politburo every Monday morning. Ultraconsultancy
  23. I've never been to Nunhead and think I should get over there to have a look at empty retail sites. Which streets should I be walking along? It's a kind of dormitory village isn't it? All tips gratefully received, thanks. Ultraconsultancy
  24. Has anybody had a look in here recently? Is it trading, and looking busy? It's certainly a good location for it. Ultraconsultancy
  25. Its the large, corner site, to the left of the florists as you face it, just across the road from the EDT. mirrored windows on all sides. Has been some kind of NHS treatment or admin centre in it's most recent incarnation. Genuine prime retail smack; fantastic potential. This time next year it'll be an estate agent. Ultraconsultancy
