  1. can I help clarify some confusion? sugar - 100[something] grove vale - individual ladies dress and accessory shop - used to be a barbers - nearest roundabout. 2 lordship lane - ex newsagents, now empty with weird political ramblings in window - owned by dentist from east dulwich practice, planning app to convert to dental surgery. 4 lordship lane - alan's flowers [for orientation] 6 lordship lane - corner site - mirrored windows - used to be NHS now its owned by parkihill who have two slightly different retail applications with planning. rumours of baby clothes shop [any confirmation?] think that's the SP Ultraconsultancy
  2. I'd say anything by 23 envelope for 4ad records between 82 and 88; a classic colaboration that just [but only just ] pips saville at factory. Sean's citation of surfer rosa above an excellent example.
  3. Polystyrene fire is VERY nasty - as any fule know very few people burn in fires, most are poisoned, and polystyrene is one of the worst. UC
  4. As far as I know, Rolo, its open seven days. Certainly weekdays plus Saturday, anyhoo. Top moniker BTW Ultraconsultancy
  5. ratty Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Did this happen? Did I miss anything? As far as I know there was an unforeseen building hiccup, and the Grand Opening is now Saturday 17th November. Ultraconsultancy
  6. to be honest, luddite, i think a lot of them are blogging. or at least the ones with access to the internet are. doesn't have the poetic fragility of brooke, owen, et al but there you are, thats technologocal progress for you.
  7. Tell you what... I don't live in Southwark, but if I caught someone rifling my bin... ouch! Ultraconsultancy
  8. contentious point, nero, and it will perhaps stun english readers to discover the long standing divides that still encumber scottish life. but i always thought that scoti was the latin word for 'small men' and is generally thought to have been the doric folk of the north east [of scotland] while the picts were the inhabitants of dalriada, noted for painting their skin, which was basically starthclyde and the inner islands. and the gealtachd? teuchters, the lot of them... but as we all know, the nation was united once and for all by ally mcleod and andy cameron in the summer of 1978, into the 'famous tartan army'[ or les betes en tartan, depending...] who will celebrate wildly with anyone, win lose or draw.
  9. I thought mairead was lobbying hard for the 20th at the last do - but clearly the vote went for the 14th at fridays meet-up. I am already booked to sing at the Royal Festival Hall, but it's occuring to me that I'll be in Scottish evening dress so a trip from the RFH over to ED might just work out nicely. After all, you're not likely to be winding up early, are you? Ultraconsultancy
  10. if anyone does actually want free stuff, and meet nice people in the process, then they should join freecycle.com . over the past few months i have received several excellent hi-fi seperates [some of them better than my own well-worn gear] and a big pile of short-run 1980's feminist philosophy books; and I have given away a pram and a load of cassettes. i'd advise joining the borough group rather than the london group [donations are supposed to be local equals fewer drive-miles] and also adise the email alert method than the log-on method; the good stuff goes very fast. ultraconsultancy
  11. Count me in, straight out of my first day at the ED Warehouse, i'll either be celebrating or needing commiseration. BTW Do we still hate Jimmy Hill? And do we have a better reason these days? It's been a while, you see... Ultraconsultancy
  12. The Mark Rothko panels in Tate Modern. You can see the light, but only through the dark. I cry, then pray, for his poor soul every time.
  13. hey chav look forward to some SME business rates discount lobbying from me, girlfriend! and maurice, didn't your mother teach not to be rude to a lady? ultraconsultancy
  14. Tragically just found out that I can't make it along tonight; grrr! Is Thursday comedy a regular thing? see you all at the Christmas do, if not before fwah fwah fwah! Ultraconsultancy
  15. I've long said to people that if you want to understand the emotional power of the Service of Remembrance, try to attend it in a military chapel. The Flowers of the Forest, The Last Post, and the Reveille, surrounded by old troopers and their colours, will stay in your heart forever.
  16. Interesting, tjs, I hadn't kept a close eye on this, but thought you'd said earlier consultation had closed. Which means I imagine it's simply waiting for a decision from planning dept case officer. I'd rather see it go ahead, a dental surgery is way better than an empty shop by a mile, and if the freehold is in the private hands of said dentist then if the app fails his temptation would be to sell out; enter Parkhill [spine-chilling music]. Mr Allan's flowers is going to miss all that unused pavement space tho, i'll bet. Ultraconsultancy
  17. I used to have a chum who had retired from being a Rebus-style detective in Glasgow, and gave over the rest of his life to a previously under-nourished love of the opera and classical music. Earlier this year I was singing at the Royal Festival Hall, collected my randomised ticket from the choir assistant, went to my numbered seat, and saw that it was the one dedicated and paid for by my detective chum. 18. What with the ED Warehouse, Sugar, and now this, it's looking like that part of 'the strip' is on the way up!
  19. Hi Marmora Man I recall from your subs to the remembrance sunday thread that you are a military chap. Not sure whats available locally but I'm a mmember of a military hisory soc and have to say it is excellent.regular monthly lectures, occasional guided tours of london and weekend trips abroad. Its in westminster; so if you can't find anything local then let me know I'll give you an intro. Ultraconsultancy
  20. but me and you, we know better it's only propaganda we're leading wonderful lives
  21. i to the hills will lift mine eyes from whence shall come mine aid my safety cometh from the lord whom heaven and earth hath made
  22. peace, bread, work, and freedom is the best we can achieve and wearing badges is not enough in days like these.
  23. I have to say rafester when i have done well in business it has been through genuine engagement with my customers - i hope to continue this habit in a warehouse near you soon. in the meantime i would encourage you to say something, or just walk away. it'll sink in eventually, or it won't... UC
  24. The Albert in Coldharbour Lane is not bad. If you like trad boozers then the Trinity on Trinity Square [a2z at the ready, chaps] takes some beating, and until recently had a classic friendly pub dog. Isn't the Canterbury alleged to be the pub where Death Metal was invented? UC
