Our street is in the pilot scheme but we (our street) is a bit of an oddity. We only have minute front gardens and the houses are very small (more or less one up one down). We do not have any back or side gardens. There is no space in the front to each have a green wheelie, let alone a brown one too. It is a great idea to collect food waste, but now we are overrun with hideous plastic... I do not want at small brown bin or the brown caddy in my garden or in the house.. as they are really UGLEY and I have nowhere to tuck them out of sight I will end up with ? one bin/bag/blue box for mixed paper, glass, metal etc, ? one bin/bag for non recyclable stuff, ? one brown bag for garden waste and ? one bin/bag for kitchen waste where on earth am I supposed to put them all... can I put my kitchen waste (in one of the bags they have given us) into the big brown garden waste paper bags when I have garden waste, and just put the kitchen waste bag out on the morning they collect on the weeks I have no garden waste? blimey... it seems to be getting so complicated that you have to completely rethink/redesign your house/front garden to accommodate all the bins/bags/boxes in a way that does not make you place look like a plastic junk yard! I thought we were supposed to be using less plastic, not more... http://www.ozville.org/blog/uploaded_images/waterbottles-742144.jpg

Has posting on this forum hindered your employment prospects?

I remember Ladymuck saying there was some sort of button you can click on to donate... am I looking in the wrong place??? http://safeharbourit.co.uk/clients/images/pound.JPG

charliecharlie came about because I have never really felt an affinity to my full name Charlotte, which seems sort of stuffy and formal. I have, on and off over the years, tried to encourage people to call me Charlie and they always seem to slip back to the 'posh bird' name... thus saying it twice! http://blogs.southflorida.com/citylink_dansweeney/charlie-chaplin.jpg

Know I am going to sound a bit like the dear old John Lewis Partnerships (who are pretty much always on time, but a wee bit on the boring side), but I am pretty good about being on time for other people. In the main, I think this is because I feel like I'm giving off a pretty blatant sign that I don't value their time (or them) by keep them waiting around for me... Being late makes me feel like I am saying "My time (ie. the wonderful and fabulously busy me) is more important than yours" and so I try not to keep people waiting. So my tips would be:- Leave plenty of time Put the other person first and value them enough not to keep them waiting for you... (yiks... do I sound smug or what... but might be helpful Katie, so will post it anyway!) http://www.edenhigh.ca/spirituallife/test/liarorlord/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/whocaresclock.jpg

i live in the Bellenden area and the flight noise has got progressively worse over the years, one of my neighbours found this online map that showed flight paths over london and it turned out that they just happened to be FIVE flight path all coming together right over our street (all stacking from 4.30 in the morning to come into land at 5.00). It has got so bad that you have to keep turning the telly up and down if you have the windows open in the evening and i wake every morning at 4.30ish when they start stacking!!! horrid horrid horrid, but we (neighbours) decided that apart from contatcing our councilors and MP (Harriet Harmen) and joining any action groups, there was little we could do... we are pretty pessimistic about our voices being heard (excuse the pun)... they are also thinking of 24hr flight access to London airport....HELP!!!!! below is section form the Bellenden Residents Newletter in case anyone wants to try and up the pressure on government... ---------------------------------- "Aircraft Noise in Peckham Stephen Hodge from Blenheim Grove writes: ?Residents in this area can hardly have failed to notice the unpleasantly high levels and increased frequency of noise pollution due to incoming aircraft heading towards Heathrow. This results from ever-increasing numbers of aircraft using Heathrow. The corridors for inbound air traffic have the heaviest use when, around 70% of the time, the prevailing wind blows from the west, with planes flying over at less than 2 minute intervals. To give residents of boroughs nearer to Heathrow some respite from the noise pollution, the north and the south runways at Heathrow are used in rotating daily shifts - "runway alternation". To pack still more aircraft into Heathrow, the Government and the BAA are proposing to end runway alternation, so aircraft will land and take-off from the same runway throughout the day. This will result in virtually non-stop noise pollution. The Government consultation period for this proposal ends in June, but little publicity has been given to it. Instead of the runway alternation system being discontinued it should be extended to cover more of south London. Separately and perhaps even worse, the possibility of permitting flights continuously 24-hours into Heathrow is mooted. This is being discussed by the EU and the US, and will result in a treaty binding upon the UK, which will not be subject to local environmental regulations. All complaints and objections thereafter will be addressed by an unelected three-person committee outside Britain.? For further details of all this see the ?HACAN ClearSkies? web-site: www.hacan.org.uk If you are concerned, support HACAN and become a local contact: email: info@hacan.org.uk , and contact your local elected representatives before it is too late. You could say you oppose the ending of the runway alternation system and want it to be extended, and oppose the new treaty arrangements on 24 hour continuous flights. there was a thread on the forum about Ralon some time ago... there were dozens of post about people's dreadful experiences in the shop.. not with the staff but with the owner... I have often found him so rude and unhelpful (not only to customers but also to his staff) that I sworn will never enter the shop again... but as people have mentioned, it is useful to be able to pop in (rather than buy the odd small thing online). All the other people who work in our studio have similar horror stories about him... shop will be missed... he will not be missed (by many). -

Dulwich Hamlets noise pollution!
charliecharlie replied to sylvie's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I do hope the outcome of this thread does not undermine the live music events at The Hamlets. I have been to quite a few. I have seen some great stuff going on there, with real music talent. But the best things about the gigs there is that they are very relaxed, affordable for all, and have a unpretentious sort of feel which encourages all types and ages to engage with live music. I think this is true asset to the area and something that The Hamlets should be proud of. Come on EDF show your support!!! These sort of enterprises need our encouragement. ps I have never been to a live music event that has run over the times set out by the licence agreement or seen any unacceptable behavior going on there... xxCC
