Given that 99% of motorists wont know that average speed cameras wouldn't be very effective on Barry Road. Couldn't the council put them up anyway? The deterrent effect would be valuable on its own and if it caught even 5% of speeding motorists that would be 5% more than now. Traffic "calming" measures on the other hand are likely to massively increase noise for residents and just lead speeding between the islands.

Have you looked at any of the Luxury Family Hotels group. Longleat and Marwell zoo also have onsite accommodations.

James - physical measures make life miserable for local residents. We have to put up with tipper trucks banging over speed humps 24 hrs a day in Adys Rd as they use the road as a rat run. Drivers also accelerate between control measures increasing noise versus constant speeds. With busses using Barry Road it?ll be even worse for residents and bus passengers. I sometimes wonder if council officers ever actually examine the real world impact of their plans. Personally I think average speed cameras would work well on Barry Rd.

Ask your mortgage broker about the early redemption fees on the 5 year deal. In the unlikely event that mortgages get cheaper then if you have no redemption fee you can always switch. Also work out exactly how much extra you'll pay for the 5-year fix and compare that to the extra cost of remortgaging in two years (e.g. arrangement fee, broker fee). The unknown is what will interests rates be doing in 2-years, will you be able to remortgage at the same rate or will it be more expensive? I think the one certainty is that the base rate will rise (it can't really fall). My guess it will rise slowly and that if it rises by more than 0.5% there will be pressure for banks to not pass on the full rise. But that is just a guess. Your mortgage broker should be setting this all out for you.

Forgive my scepticism but there have been multiple traffic surveys (using the strips across the road) over the years which get a more accurate view of the situation than two hours with a speed gun three times a year. The councillors have plenty of evidence, but just as with Adys/Nutbrook/Maxted there doesn't seem to be any political will to tackle these issues.

But 6 hours of enforcement a year is hardly going to make a real difference. Also as you know when there's someone standing there in hi-vis there is a temporary change in behaviour which makes it look like less of a problem We need proper enforcement of speed limits across the borough, preferably by average speed cameras, rather than activities that allow politicians to give the appearance of something being done in their newsletters.

I've noticed a fair few used car seats being sold in the forum. My understanding is that second hand car seats (like second hand helmets) should never be used as the purchaser has no idea how they've been treated and whether they're still safe. Also car seats have an expiry date which people often don't know to look for. I wonder if car seat sales should be stopped on the forum or at least a prominent warning be provided on each thread?

Is your mortgage company asking for it? Ours wanted to see evidence that our builders had adequate cover, but this should be a cost of doing business for your builder not something you pay for separately.

They guy who came round to us was late teens or very early twenties. I don?t think he was a scammer, just a guy on commission following a script.

I?m more inclined to think they?re on commission than it being a scam. Just like the chuggers you avoid on the high street at lot of door to door fundraisers are paid by the charity based on signups. I personally dislike it, but charities find it more raises a lot more than it costs.

We've been to lots of kids parties at the Francis Peek centre in Dulwich Park. I don't know if it's cheap though. As it's July have you considered having something outdoors? We've been to parties at the American Garden in Dulwich Park and the Japanese garden in Peckham Rye Park.

I think the Grove Vale library used to stock them.

Also be aware the Villa is only pre-prep, so you have to plan for where your child will go for prep. All of the other schools you?ve listed go through to 11.
