  1. What habit of mine would you wish me to change oh Large Mammal of the Sea?
  2. The 'point's do appear to lack clarity. I mean they do realise traffic can go down on one road, but increase on another? Despite all these lovely LTNs, the number of trips by walking, cycling and public transport as a proportion of all trips - is estimated at 58.3%, down 5% from 63.2% in 2019 in London.
  3. James has always responded quickly to my e-mails and apart from the one subject we disagree on and my dislike of the current Central LP, I find him a good local Councillor and I agree with the majority of his values - Congratulations James
  4. I was a LP member for years and part of the last local election's 'resource', one of things I admire is their ability to organise, bringing in activists from outside the local area. A lot of activists have left, but DAWN LP is pretty strong and they worked hard and the party machine kicked in....despite a falling membership and no money. Not sure London 'success' will extend to a majority in Parliament.
  5. I'm not drawn to Megans (humus is great...but homemade is best)- I was wishing for an independent or a Dishoom or a second branch of Arabica. Megan's seems another baby-buggy, expensive, derivative mish-mash, but an improvement on William Hill
  6. Well 8am yesterday I posted "Then some actions - the money made by Southwark to be invested in ways to encourage less car use by parents taking children to school, pressure on the private schools to make it an admission rule, more EV charging points and a local network of green buses." But I can give more if you like? But Medact is the organisation I support and I would advocate their solutions. https://stat.medact.org/uploads/2021/04/The-public-health-case-for-a-Green-New-Deal-MEDACT-April-2021.pdf
  7. Ahh Sea-Cow the originator of the poooooooo analogy. So are we supporting pollution monitoring and WHO levels of air quality for all roads in ED or not?
  8. The dog poo analogy is quite a good one. So all the people living on Melbourne Grove can own dogs and on Calton and Gilkes two or three dogs. They can the dump their dog poo on my road so their road is clean. Yes I see..that's a great idea. The amount of poo is the same ..but its all on my road. Got it. Thanks.
  9. Constructive progress - Southwark should make it their aim to monitor pollution on the most polluted roads and make all effort now to reduce it to be below WHO health guidelines. Anyone unhappy with that? Is that "using air quality as a weapon to justify (my) belief' Where is the pollution data for EDG? Ot are those on closed roads satisfied with the current status?
  10. So people living on Croxted and EDG - they shouldn't complain about pollution levels and they are using air quality as a weapon to justify their beliefs. Well - the art of any sensible discussion on this subject is now truly over.
  11. Not sure 'communication' is an issue, I think enough has been said about theories and modelling. I think what I would like is very clear pollution monitoring on roads that have high use in terms of people living/working/ and travelling actively and school rds - that are 'problem' rds, so we can measure peak levels daily and the long-term levels over a period of time. Also noise pollution and congestion/idling traffic should be monitored and collected. Then some actions - the money made by Southwark to be invested in ways to encourage less car use by parents taking children to school, pressure on the private schools to make it an admission rule, more EV charging points and a local network of green buses.
  12. I think there is middle ground, in an area with high PTAL and no private schools with wide catchment area (which seems to encourage parents to drive to JAGs/Alleyns to drop off one child and use EDG as a car-park in the evening), LTNs in consultation with the affected roads may offer solutions that do make roads safer and areas that have benefit created, without detriment to others. There also needs to be a wider scheme so one borough doesn't push traffic into another (Croxted Rd). This just isn't the case in Dulwich ED - poorly planned, implemented and roads chosen due to individual street pressure groups and this has caused upset, mistrust and rather ruined a once very cohesive community on all 'sides'... in that way maybe a bit like Brexit?
  13. A road can have congested/idling traffic and speeding traffic at different times of the day. That zebra is one of many parts of EDG that represent a risk to pedestrians, cyclists and motorbike riders - the Council is aware as they received nearly a year ago a lengthy document from a group of neighbours, who were concerned about road conditions. The road is in an even poorer condition now.
  14. It might have to be Lab/Lib/SNP....
  15. Please no more messing with junctions. Every time Southwark mess with a junction they **** it up. EDG actually was a lot calmer about 20 years ago, then they messed with the Townley/ Greendale junction and it got more congested at the Village end....add in the 5xLTNs and its been turned into a slow moving school car park Mon-Fri. Incidentally traffic is busy during the day after the school madness - I watched the very young children at Charter EDG playing football only metres from belching, polluting cars, HGVs and vans - not a good look for a school road and I pity any parent who has kids there - ask the school to run a project like this excellent Brighton one - I'm sure Southwark Council will give a grant? I mean they pay for street parties, so why not a school project on air pollution on the sports ground and play areas? https://www.imperial.ac.uk/news/106949/children-test-pollutants-brighton-science-project/
  16. Areas with high numbers of graduates are more likely to vote Labour, areas of poverty and low graduate population appear to be voting Conservative. In 2018 LP did much the same as today. I do listen with amazement that Corbyn is being blamed by LP for not doing better - I think it was Corbyn's fault that my friend's cat got run-over 9 days ago and he probably had something to do with me tripping on the stairs 2 weeks ago.
  17. EDG was busy..but not stationary down the whole rd with cars spewing out pollutants. Traffic is down across London 10-15% but has increased in volume on average down EDG according to Southwark's figures and obviously has a peak time traffic issue. It's probably better to go forward accepting that this is the downside of LTNs and start helping your neighbours to ask Southwark to help reduce this problem. Or just carry on being very, very, very selfish.
  18. I think there is an issue of which roads have more spent on them in terms of upkeep - Melbourne Grove as an example - new tarmac, new pavement, new road markings and upkeep is regular. EDG nothing for the last 4 years - except the one I mentioned.
  19. The whole road needs re-surfacing and the upkeep of crossings and road markings is terrible on EDG - now would be a good time to contact your local Councillor and also join the EDG residents group, who campaign for a better, cleaner and less polluted road. The only rd marking that was re-painted on EDG in the last yr was after a complaint following a tragic event.
  20. I just hope that something is done about the congested traffic on EDG, Croxted on school mornings. Life in an LTN must be lovely, so I'm happy for you...now might be a time to think about others.
  21. DV - LibDems got 1133 and 1037, Con - 1063, 1053 Lab - Margy -2111 Rleemings - 1922 Green - 370 and 387. I don't know about GG. I think it was a local and national vote. People who live in LTNs will have come out strongly to vote LP because why would they want their house value to drop back and traffic on their road again. Other's were split between national and local. Even I with my belief that LTNs just produce more pollution and chaos for people on EDG, LL and Croxted, could not have voted Conservative if I lived in DV - I think the anti-LTN vote was split between LibDem and Con. Well done Labour in London, they campaigned hard and kept at it over a long period. Nationally the LP won't get in to power by 'winning' London - and I don't think the gains signify much change from the last local elections, except the Labour share is up in London, but down in the north and that will be the problem for LP. Best news for me... Green Party did well. Definitely my party of choice for the next local and national elections.
  22. Grassroots is where it's at, that is where policy should form from and then be the push for political parties to listen. This is my current issue with the Labour Party - interfering with local councils, parachuting in candidates for parliament that are acceptable to the LP central committee and ignoring the majority of LP members. Unfortunately although Johnson is a lying, self-promoting, crass and in many ways incompetent PM, I'm not sure anything will really change under Keir's Labour in power.... name one policy. This is a local election and vote for those who will listen locally. scrutiny doesn't exist at present. If you are against building on green spaces, giving only the privileged gated roads, infilling and the demolishing of housing stock, so that Southwark can bring in private investors for new builds with very little social housing.... use your vote wisely.
  23. Local issues are paramount in local elections...the thing I noticed in the Herne Hill hustings is when one Dulwich Councillor was answering questions it was all very, very vague and meaningless and they kept referring to central government. I?ve voted Labour for nearly 40 yrs and the current front bench are talentless, self promoting, disgustingly wealthy liars as far as I can see, but they didn?t put 5 LTNs into this area under a premise of Covid 19 Emergency, plan them so poorly that they create areas of wealthy gated communities at the expense of major school and residential streets. Vote for local issues in local elections.
  24. I think they will become cheaper..all cars will be EVs one day, the sooner the better.
  25. "the anti LTN campaigners (Conservatives , Dulwich Alliance - though they?re essentially one and the same as Clive Rates founded the Dulwich Alliance)" is that correct ... are all anti-LTN 'campaigners' in this particular area Conservatives and DA members? Again grouping many people together who don't like these particular LTNs for a variety of reasons and making a judgement about them. I find this offensive.
