A road can have congested/idling traffic and speeding traffic at different times of the day. That zebra is one of many parts of EDG that represent a risk to pedestrians, cyclists and motorbike riders - the Council is aware as they received nearly a year ago a lengthy document from a group of neighbours, who were concerned about road conditions. The road is in an even poorer condition now.

It might have to be Lab/Lib/SNP....

Please no more messing with junctions. Every time Southwark mess with a junction they **** it up. EDG actually was a lot calmer about 20 years ago, then they messed with the Townley/ Greendale junction and it got more congested at the Village end....add in the 5xLTNs and its been turned into a slow moving school car park Mon-Fri. Incidentally traffic is busy during the day after the school madness - I watched the very young children at Charter EDG playing football only metres from belching, polluting cars, HGVs and vans - not a good look for a school road and I pity any parent who has kids there - ask the school to run a project like this excellent Brighton one - I'm sure Southwark Council will give a grant? I mean they pay for street parties, so why not a school project on air pollution on the sports ground and play areas? https://www.imperial.ac.uk/news/106949/children-test-pollutants-brighton-science-project/

Areas with high numbers of graduates are more likely to vote Labour, areas of poverty and low graduate population appear to be voting Conservative. In 2018 LP did much the same as today. I do listen with amazement that Corbyn is being blamed by LP for not doing better - I think it was Corbyn's fault that my friend's cat got run-over 9 days ago and he probably had something to do with me tripping on the stairs 2 weeks ago.

EDG was busy..but not stationary down the whole rd with cars spewing out pollutants. Traffic is down across London 10-15% but has increased in volume on average down EDG according to Southwark's figures and obviously has a peak time traffic issue. It's probably better to go forward accepting that this is the downside of LTNs and start helping your neighbours to ask Southwark to help reduce this problem. Or just carry on being very, very, very selfish.
-
The whole road needs re-surfacing and the upkeep of crossings and road markings is terrible on EDG - now would be a good time to contact your local Councillor and also join the EDG residents group, who campaign for a better, cleaner and less polluted road. The only rd marking that was re-painted on EDG in the last yr was after a complaint following a tragic event.

I just hope that something is done about the congested traffic on EDG, Croxted on school mornings. Life in an LTN must be lovely, so I'm happy for you...now might be a time to think about others.

DV - LibDems got 1133 and 1037, Con - 1063, 1053 Lab - Margy -2111 Rleemings - 1922 Green - 370 and 387. I don't know about GG. I think it was a local and national vote. People who live in LTNs will have come out strongly to vote LP because why would they want their house value to drop back and traffic on their road again. Other's were split between national and local. Even I with my belief that LTNs just produce more pollution and chaos for people on EDG, LL and Croxted, could not have voted Conservative if I lived in DV - I think the anti-LTN vote was split between LibDem and Con. Well done Labour in London, they campaigned hard and kept at it over a long period. Nationally the LP won't get in to power by 'winning' London - and I don't think the gains signify much change from the last local elections, except the Labour share is up in London, but down in the north and that will be the problem for LP. Best news for me... Green Party did well. Definitely my party of choice for the next local and national elections.

Grassroots is where it's at, that is where policy should form from and then be the push for political parties to listen. This is my current issue with the Labour Party - interfering with local councils, parachuting in candidates for parliament that are acceptable to the LP central committee and ignoring the majority of LP members. Unfortunately although Johnson is a lying, self-promoting, crass and in many ways incompetent PM, I'm not sure anything will really change under Keir's Labour in power.... name one policy. This is a local election and vote for those who will listen locally. scrutiny doesn't exist at present. If you are against building on green spaces, giving only the privileged gated roads, infilling and the demolishing of housing stock, so that Southwark can bring in private investors for new builds with very little social housing.... use your vote wisely.

Local issues are paramount in local elections...the thing I noticed in the Herne Hill hustings is when one Dulwich Councillor was answering questions it was all very, very vague and meaningless and they kept referring to central government. I?ve voted Labour for nearly 40 yrs and the current front bench are talentless, self promoting, disgustingly wealthy liars as far as I can see, but they didn?t put 5 LTNs into this area under a premise of Covid 19 Emergency, plan them so poorly that they create areas of wealthy gated communities at the expense of major school and residential streets. Vote for local issues in local elections.

I think they will become cheaper..all cars will be EVs one day, the sooner the better.

"the anti LTN campaigners (Conservatives , Dulwich Alliance - though they?re essentially one and the same as Clive Rates founded the Dulwich Alliance)" is that correct ... are all anti-LTN 'campaigners' in this particular area Conservatives and DA members? Again grouping many people together who don't like these particular LTNs for a variety of reasons and making a judgement about them. I find this offensive.

Aah well as long as you're ok that's all that matters. "The consequences of poor access to public transport, which due to its very nature impacts disproportionately on those with low incomes, the elderly and women, results in a lack of ability to access education, jobs, health facilities and hospitals. Level of access to public transport services is therefore a function of the degree to which social exclusion processes are experienced. PTALs as indicators are of particular importance in revealing the impact of network changes on travel patterns for those groups who rely on bus provision (Hine and Mitchell, 2001)

They haven't really taken 'offence' it's a useful stick to use if one doesn't like the message - we all know that. People use 'offence' when they want to smear a political opponent or a campaign they disagree with. I guess Tristan isn't a very political animal or he would curate his language into the usual word salad we get from most politicians - which I DO actually find very offensive. I heard quite a lot of 'non-offensive' word salad at the Herne Hill hustings...

Actually if you use Rahx3's link - it shows that SE22 has a PTAL of 3 overall ( PTAL output for Base Year 3, SE22 London SE22, UK Easting: 533972, Northing: 174602) and SE21 2 overall(PTAL output for Base Year 2 SE21 London SE21, UK Easting: 533207, Northing: 172829) Thanks Rahx3 nice link. Thanks. East Dulwich and the Village - very poor PTAL, a terrible idea to put LTNs in when PTAL so low.So when a train service is cut it must drop to being really, really terrible.

I find it offensive that my road is full of slow moving congested traffic every school morning post the 5xLTNs and I'm told it's my 'imagination', 'perception' and my 35 years of living on the same road and same flat isn't a 'real' experience of my own residence... but there you go, one person's offence is another's fair comment.

I think CPR Dave is somewhat correct in this - people have enjoyed their own private 'carriage', that used to be only accessible to the very wealthy when it was under real 'horse-power', there is no going back from the freedom of movement given by a private car as a choice. I do choose PT over car travel in London, but I also have enjoyed the freedom to travel by car across the UK. Making PT cheap, comfortable, accessible and efficient is needed, but people will not give up the private car and this freedom to travel. While train travel remains exorbitant and in many cases awful, people will choose the car every time.

Labour have avoided LTNs as a 'policy' during the run up. I think they are worried about the fact that they don't reduce pollution or traffic on any measure. They keep them because Labour is generally voted in by relatively wealthy people in this area and in less wealthy areas the turn-out is low. As the expensive housing is within LTNs especially in GG and ED wards then taking them out will effect LP support. Sadly if you live in low rental or less well off area you are less likely to vote. LP is a sad shadow of it's previous campaigning past.

Goose Green councillors - how can we help?
heartblock replied to jamesmcash's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think the stationary traffic every morning is the 'conflict' for the 37 bus...I liked the days it went down Melbourne Grove - a perfect transport link. Maybe Melbourne should be a bus route again - take out all street parking and divert the bus down there to avoid the congested traffic on ED Grove. School route served also. -

As is the car storage LTN roads of Calton, Court and Melbourne. -
Stephen Edwards, the chief executive of Living Streets, said: ?Nobody wants to vote for dangerous roads, air pollution and rat running. The government?s own evidence shows that there is overwhelming support for traffic reduction and space being reallocated to people walking, wheeling and cycling.? ?Of course, if low-traffic schemes aren?t working, authorities should be working with residents to find other ways to reduce car dominance and prioritise people.?

""PTAL is a measure of accessibility used by TfL based on distance and frequency of public transport. The areas with a high level of public transport accessibility usually score 5, 6a or 6b on the PTAL scale, whilst areas with very low levels of public transport accessibility will score 0, 1a or 1b. The Dulwich area has a low level of public transport accessibility. Areas around the main stations only reach a PTAL 3 and The Village a PTAL 2 whilst the main commercial area around East Dulwich has a PTAL 3. Other parts of Dulwich, particularly those where schools are located have a level 2 of accessibility translating into a higher use of car and coach for pupils outside of Dulwich. This is confirmed also by more general DfT accessibility statistics which show that, in general the area has a lower public transport accessibility level than the remainder of Southwark whilst by car it tends to be on par with the other parts of the borough or somewhat higher for hospitals, particularly due to the proximity of Dulwich Community Hospital".
