  1. Netmums and Mumsnet often have threads about this. I didn't miss the workplace at all when I had my children and would have loved to be able to work at home. Unfortunately, this wasn't an option for me or my work and I chose to give up my job when my eldest (now 19) was a baby. There's so many choices now so if you do feel isolated, then maybe just pop to Sainsburys or wherever to break up your day!

  4. That's good news tallulah71 - it never ceases to amaze me about the power of the EDF and how far it can stretch!
  5. Hope you find Pat safe and well. A worrying time for you but I'm sure everything will be ok.
  6. Remember there was a cinema on Grove Vale then it was the Palace of Peace, now it's flats. There was also a cinema where Nandos is now in Camberwell (I remember queuing up) then it turned into a big jeans warehouse. Can't think of a big enough empty building now to house a cinema in ED, but it would be a great idea.
  7. It's such a minefield isn't it? My three all had their MMR's with no reactions but this was before the Andrew Wakefield? report came out. I think I might have swayed a bit but would still have had my children immunised. I've also had to make the decision to have my two teenage girls vaccinated against cervical cancer over the past few years. There are 3 jabs over a 6 month period (if I remember) and the youngest (13) has just had her final one. Finding a prevention for any kind of cancer (or other disease)is a yes with me.
  8. kapaxiana you don't say how old your child is but I've found doidy cups hard for babies/toddlers to use. In my experience I would just use a normal closed lid sippy cup.
  9. Daughter got some great photos from her position on the bridge. Can see Queenie in one of them. Worth waiting 4 hours in the wind and rain and thanks to The Charter for getting the passes!
  10. Daughter has a boarding pass, along with her friends, to watch the pageant at London Bridge. They have to take up their place by 12.00 but just found out Queenie doesn't come past till around 4pm!
  11. My cats are scared stiff of the magpies and the racket they make - they stay well clear of them (and squirrels). Going back to the photos and they look like normal honeybees to me.
  12. This thread has brought me back to something that I witnessed last Saturday on the zebra crossing at Goose Green. I was driving down from Peckham Rye with the leisure centre on my left towards the crossing at the Goose Green roundabout. It was busy as usual and I was about 4 cars back from the crossing, driving slowly. Looking ahead I saw a man around 30 carrying some shopping bags stepping forward onto the crossing. As he carried on the car on the crossing started off, beebing at him, edging forward and the poor guy had to swerve as the car touched him I think. This man was so shocked that he just carried on crossing to the other side looking back at the car driver who just sped off with no idea that he was on a zebra crossing! I tried to catch the reg number of the car but wasn't quick enough.
  13. Throwing them balls will amuse them as you say. They're very intelligent creatures and will prob be back for more!
