  1. The space behind the Greendale cycling/walking path has been there for years - overgrown and unused (just like the cycling path years ago). I grew up in Dylways just behind Greendales and skated, biked, ran around the hills here with my sisters and friends. Then they made the astroturf and it was used for kick abouts and football schools (my son went there for years). I think now they have the boot sale there it seems to have become known. It's a bit of land that hasn't been kept good for years so if you can make something of it then good luck. I'm sure there's some kind of ownership thing going on with it though.
  2. Erm you let someone take your phone in full view and then followed him round the store wondering what do do? By the way what does "peeps" mean - like to keep up with the teenagers!
  3. Well Sly and Reggie did manage to have their faces on the front of The Southwark News last Thursday and an article about them and their new song in the middle somewhere! Dub Save The Queen!
  4. Don't know about moths but seen lots of spiders about the house recently. I love spiders.

  10. Cross posted with reetpetite! Great minds think alike!

  12. Three bolts of lightning this afternoon around 4pm. Counted to 10 after each and sure enough there was extra loud thunder. Just heard loud thunder!
  13. I was out in it this afternoon and it's still going on tonight!
  14. A long story but after taking my child out of her then primary school during Year 3, I applied to another school nearby, not even thinking she would get in. After a couple of weeks, received a letter saying we had gone straight to No. 1 on the list as we were "12 minutes walking distance" away from the school. 12 minutes walking distance is not that far so I'm not sure what the maximum walking distance is. Hope everything works out for you.
  15. Just read the thread from beginning to end again and noticed that somebody will be excluding 0 to 18 year olds from their wedding. If I couldn't take my 3 teenagers to a wedding then I wouldn't go.
  16. I think it's really sad when children are barred from weddings. Weddings are a social occasion for families to get together and get dressed up, learn about the wedding ceremony, inside a church etc. and I wouldn't have dreamt of not having children at my wedding. What about wedding photos and looking back on them in years to come. There will be no childrens faces in them.
  17. Pam, never heard anything like this - ATM's old? Everything should tally up and receipt issued should be right. You should ask that the bank checks the ATM for any external devices/hidden cameras. Don't want to worry you but watched a programme the other night about how easy it is for gangs to make big profits from cloning/keeping card details. PaulK if you can't help, then don't make unhelpful comments.
  18. As soon as I read the article in the Mail I knew the woman was going to come in for a lot of flack. Still, she chose to do it and chose the Mail to publish it. The Guardian are quick to slate it but are probably kicking themselves for not getting there first. The husband had his say in the Mail today. Another interesting read.
  19. I went on maternity leave from Southwark Council with my first child, nearly 20 years ago. During my maternity leave they told me I had been made redundant from my old job. On return, they put me in a different job and location, which I wasn't happy about. I fought it but in the end decided to resign (not saying you should). There was no support for me then and we didn't have mobiles/internet for advice and working from home hadn't even been thought of. Hope you can work this out with your employer.
  20. Yes, if you mean St Faith's at Red Post Hill on a Monday, then it's still going.
  21. ibilly99 - the yellow boards were probably adding to the fear factor but were also "lowering the tone of the area". This is what my brother-in-law was told by the police, when he was violently mugged and attacked on Denmark Hill a few years ago. Apparently, people living in some of the houses had complained that it "lowered the tone of the area" so maybe this could be why you don't see many yellow boards asking for help now.
  22. Oh no - Crossthwaite will be heaving now!
  23. Hope you're getting over this - especially as it happened outside your front door. What road was this on?
  24. I went to an open day at our local church a few years ago. Found out our house in North Dulwich was first occupied by a soldier and then a policeman and his family. Think they were one and the same as the houses were built as part of the 'homes for heroes' after the First World War. The whole estate was built in the 1920s. Many soldiers went on to be policeman (my grandad was a Port of London Authority constable) but wasn't fortunate enough to live in North Dulwich then! I've been tracing my family tree on and off for the past 25 years. Pre 1911 census returns also have the end column which state whether the person was 'deaf, blind, imbecile or lunatic'!
  25. Fuzzyboots, hope your 6 year old son is getting over seeing something so terrible. Last Friday I was walking through the Greendales after just leaving a playgroup with 2 toddlers in pram. A woman with a dog off the lead was just in front of me. I slowed down as it was a type of dog I just don't feel easy with (sorry dog owners). A man with a black labrador dog on a lead was coming towards us. The woman's dog just went mad, ran towards it and started attacking the dog. It was horrible to watch. It must have lasted a few minutes but the man and his dog came away bleeding. I asked him if he was ok but he (and I) was so shocked and he just said he "was sick of dogs off the lead" and walked away. I shouted at the woman "put your dog on a lead". She was maybe 500 yards from me. She looked at me and just carried on with the dog running alongside her!
