Wenger has made some interesting observations about United's central midfield, he has alluded to their purpose as being to destroy rather than create. I'm not sure whether it is sour grapes on Wenger's part but I have to say Fletcher has never struck me as a midfielder enforcer. I'd say his greatest attribute is a good engine but other than that he is limited. I think Wenger should be pointing the finger more at his own players - this was a game where they dominated United more than when Liverpool won at Old Trafford 4-1 and yet barely tested Ben Foster. Arsenal should have been shooting on sight as I believe Foster is United's major weak link. In many ways Foster reminds me Scott Carson who struggled with the fundamentals but seemed to have made a career solely from point blank saves.

One day to go before the transfer deadline.. I think there is going to be a lot of activity in and out of Anfield tomorrow

Was Rooney already going to ground before keeper made contact? Bizarre own goal to compound matters. Perhaps it's for the better that United won, as Arsenal were otherwise magnificent and winning may have given them an unbreakable confidence for rest of season. Watched the Liverpool game in a pub in West Kensington and it was rammed with about 100 Reds. Have to say it was a great atmosphere with plenty of singing. I thus knock the Vale on the head!

I think in some countries Rugby is a noble sport

Would he have gone down like that if he was running for the Bus...

It's harsh on Eduardo but the clean up has to start some where and I believe this will send out a very strong message across Europe and can only be for the good of the game. Platini and UEFA are often maligned but on this occasion they have my full support... and if they want to take retrospective action on Gerrard and Ronaldo then do it.

For those that care... it's the FA Cup tomorrow, Dulwich Hamlets v Sevenoaks Town at 3 p.m. If anyone thinks they've ever followed their Club on the road to Wembley.. which I have countless times with Liverpool.. I have to say there is nothing quite like following your local team from August through all the prelimenary rounds as I once did back in yonder until we reached the first round proper and faced the might of Cardiff City. Ahhh Hot Bovril in shitty paper cups, standing on the touchline and finally losing 4-2.. not quite Istanbul but still.. Tempted to attend but I'll probably give it a miss in favour of sticking my loyal ear to radio commentary from Bolton..

It's not a case of Clubs thinking they're too big for the PL rather a case of other clubs being too small for the Premiership. Why should we stop foreign Clubs competing in PL - it strikes me as little Britain mentality. No we should remember Football is about entertainment not a charity event for Clubs that don't even try to play Football. What is the Stoke long throw all about, or Hull keeping the grass long? Crikey it's the 21st century! This isn't about people being able to afford a trip to Amsterdam or Madrid, as it's usually cheaper than a visit to the North East, this is about creme da le creme... okay maybe not as I also did put a place at the big table for West Ham ;-)
-
Personally Keef I'd prefer they just kicked out Wigan, Blackburn, Burnley, Fulham, Stoke, Hull, Sunderland, Bolton, Brum from Premiership and replace them with Ajax, Sevilla, Barcelona, Real, Bayern, PSG, Marseille, Valencia and Fenerbahce.

Not even when Liverpool has just 1 point from first 3 games two seasons ago? I thought that was very exciting as first we had to beat Beskitas, which we did 8-0, then we had to beat Porto, which we did 4-1, then we had to visit the Med and beat Marseille which we did 4-0 in their own backyard. Or how about when United got kicked out of Group stage few years back by Lille?

It wasn't directed at you Anna - it was more those that follow clubs consigned to these shores ;-) No cheap route that I'm aware.. probably be cheaper to book a 1 week package holiday

For Haifa you'd have to go via Tel Aviv which is 90Km away, be near ?400 if it's in September having taking a look at Opodo website.. and about ?150 if Matchday 6 (in December) but obviously you'd still expect good weather. For those wondering where Haifa is, here it is on the map relative to Europe. Actually I think they have to play their home games further south in Tel Aviv as it's within striking distance of Hezbollah rocket attacks in Lebanon... Hmmm may have to give this one a miss! Well I'm hoping for another trip to Istanbul, but wouldn't say no to Maccabi Haifa either

Looks quite a strong group stage this season. Standard Liege, Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan could form one group with an English team. http://www.uefa.com/competitions/ucl/news/kind=1/newsid=878126.html

Rangers also in pot 2

Arshavin is a great little player - it's shame that on the last transfer deadline day, in the snow, when Arsenal lowered their original agreed price for the Russian that the Yanks were coining the Robbie Keane money instead of paying for a replacement.. So all that goodwill Eduardo built up after that horrendous leg break has in one shameless dive been blown away to reveal the cheating little fooker we all first suspected...

I predict Celtic to win 3-0 tonight...

Yup United won first PL - and thus never did win the Football League again which they last won 42 years ago.. [i say clutching at straws]

Mick Mac Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Ultimately it doesn't really matter, I want him as > manager for more reasons than how many things we > win with him. > > If that's true Lard then that's very fair. Hmmm I can't see Bob Paisley agreeing with that one - he was a pretty ruthless Manager and even criticised Shankly in later years for holding onto players too long during the wilderness years of no trophies (67 to 72). Houllier arguably had a better relationship with fans than Rafa but in the end Houllier had to go, and if we ever reach a stage where Rafa also starts to take the Club backwards then it'll also be the exit for him. Having said that I think Rafa is still taking Liverpool foward and as I said earlier I think he still has a lot of mileage left. The writing was on the wall for Houllier when the Kop stopped singing his name in his final months - even though he'd lost the support of most fans the previous summer.

"bad timing" - hmmmmmm ...Last time Liverpool promoted from within was Roy Evans and he was just shocking. Although he had the best set of players in the country and often played some breathtaking football at Anfield - he was way too soft to keep them under control and perhaps the reason why they lacked a bit of backbone on their travels. Houllier or Rafa would have won a few titles with that squad no doubt about it. Likes of McManaman, Fowler, Collymore, Berger, Rob Jones would have walked into any of the subsequent teams upto and including today.

Secondly, the only arrogant Manager in this affair is David Moyes who claimed his Club, who btw have to give away promotions every home game to fill seats, was the "People's Club" on Merseyside!

If it came down to it no Anfield regular would want Rafa to get the boot, he still has a lot of mileage. Overall Liverpool are still a formidable opponent but if there is one thing to improve it would be, more adventure at 0-0.
