  1. Well no one else is going to say it (I wonder why ;-), so I will, well done to Liverpool for beating Real Madrid last night at the Bernabau. Liverpool limited Real to scraps, and bossed the game, and can now look forward to the 2nd leg a bit more than the other Premiership teams. The team most likely to struggle from the PL quartet is United.

You should be more concerned about whether to support Italy or Scotland in your 3 way fight for the wooden spoon!!
  3. I guess United and Arsenal would have settled for those results before kick off. United though will probably be disappointed after they got off to a whirlwind start when they could have scored an opening goal on numerous occasions in the first half hour. I was thinking this Inter Milan team were a lot worse than last season when they got kicked out by Liverpool but in the 2nd half they showed their quality and could have scored themselves. All to play for in the 2nd leg.

Well, having read the awesome reviews I'm interested in attending, if there are no objections!? Are you doing one this Saturday!?
  5. Well Rafa has got 3 Champions League semi-finals in 4 seasons, and two of those he reached the final, but does that make him a better Manager than Paisley? Of course not. The Champions League may be more difficult but back in Paisley's day the domestic competition was harder than it is today.
  6. Looks like it's the EDT - to see Wales tame the French
  7. Mourinho is a great Manager, but I'd hardly say 1 season in Italy is worthy of such an accolade... However a 66% strike rate truly is excellent, so I guess that puts him somewhere between Paisley and Ferguson (when you remember Bob has a better European Cup record)..
  8. Well it's only predictable because I always look at the record books before I make big statements ;-) Ferguson has been at Old Trafford something like 23 years - he has won 2 European Cups and 10 titles. Uncle Bob was in charge at Anfield for 9 years and won 3 European Cups and 6 titles. Bob also came out of retirement in 1985/86 and helped Kenny win the Double. Bob's strike rate, whilst Manager, was 0.66 on Titles and 0.33 on European Cups - Ferguson has a 0.43 Title ratio and 0.087 hit on European Cups. In other words Bob's Title record is 50% better again than Ferguson, and in European Cups it's almost 4 times better.
  9. I thought BigBadWolf had been put down from the title of the thread!? I was looking forward to picking up some organic wolf steak on the weekend to chuck on the BBQ. However, it appears BBW has shaken off his handlers, leaped over the electric fencing at the Maudsley, has charged down Dog Kennel Hill and is once again prowling the virtual streets of the EDF!

  11. I'd define British culture as like a wooden horse - which has been dressed up by continental trimmings to give the illusion of a Derby thoroughbred... I'll try and come up with a positive answer later ;-)
  12. Haha, long time since I seen that clip.. and remarkably some of the Liverpool actors actually did pass for John Barnes, Ronnie Whelan and Nicky Tanner There is only one Liverpool way, and that is winning the title... everything else is a bonus... otherwise we'd have chugged along with Roy Evans for the last 15 years. I like Rafa, I think he is nice guy, hence why likes of Mourinho, Ferguson, Honest 'Arry and Big Sam have fallen out with him big time.
  13. correct
  14. Hopefully that gives them the confidence for Sunday in the Cup final - should be a great Final assuming Spurs go for it!
  15. Mick Mac Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > What would have happened to Ronaldo and Cantona at > Liverpool, Matt? FOR SOME REASON I ORIGINALLY SENT THIS AS A PM - SO IGNORE Well Cantona was offered to Souness by Platini after the famous 1991 Auxerre comeback game - "we've got a troubled but talented player back in France that needs a fresh start". I just think they'd have been too much friction between the pair and he'd have been quickly bombed out before he had a chance to get in ahead of Saunders or Rush. As for Ronaldo, I don't think Houllier or Rafa would have indulged his step overs for the first season or two never mind a couple of games... knowing Rafa he'd have given him the odd 15 minute run out now and again before his confidence broke and then ship him back to Portugal.
  16. I'm not sure anyone has a say in these matters unless you happen to be one of the owners.. Rumour has it then during the mid-nineties Liverpool tried to poach Alex Ferguson from United to become their new manager - now whether that is true or not, what a bitter pill that would have been to swallow! The number of United players that Liverpool had first call on but decided not to pursue any further... Ronaldo, Cantona and Vidic... although I only think Vidic would have been a success at Anfield.
  17. Not at all, during the last 5 seasons, no other Manager or Club has been as successful in the Champions League as Rafa and Liverpool, even if you discount winning in Istanbul. If there was a vacancy at Anfield, should Rafa depart, then of course the Kop would give their full backing to whoever was the new Manager. The day the Kop fail to welcome a new Manager with open arms is when you know they're just another club.
  18. Where do you reckon will be the best pub in East Dulwich to watch France v Wales in the Six Nations on Friday night (kick off 8pm)? I watched the Wales v England in the EDT which was good, and will probably be first port of call unless there are other better suggestions as not sure what EDT is like for Rugby during the night time..
  19. I think Mourinho would probably feel insulted if he was offered the Newcastle job. Ferguson will probably still be Manager of United until he gets the sack. What is he going to do if he retires? Liverpool or Chelsea jobs will become available sooner rather than later, but I'd put my money on him being the new Liverpool Manager.. perhaps this summer. The Kop would welcome Mourinho with open arms and I think Mourinho would jump at the challenge of bringing the title back to Anfield. Anfield would be the perfect platform for him to further boost his inflated ego.

  24. I quite often used to jump off the number 12 bus on Barry Road opposite the crime in question. It was always quiet whatever time of night. I never noticed any gangs, always thought it was a good road bar the traffic. This is a very tragic event for victim, family and friends.
